Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth
Chapter 972 - 440: The Arrest
This was the first time Luke commanded a capture operation, and to ensure everything went smoothly, he didn't act rashly.
After getting out of the car, Luke circled to a spot not far from the suspect's house to observe. The two black boys were constantly around the suspect's house, and there was nothing fun nearby, which seemed odd for two lively kids. Luke became increasingly convinced they were lookouts.
Luke's plan was simple: first capture the two black boys and interrogate them about the suspect's situation. This would maximize the safety of the capture team.
It was his first time leading a capture. He didn't seek credit, only wanted to avoid mistakes. So long as he didn't mess up, there would be another opportunity. If his mistakes led to injuries, even if Jack was keen to nurture him, future chances would be weighed carefully.
After a while, one of the black boys rode away on a bicycle, leaving the other to keep watch near the suspect's house.
Luke felt the opportunity had come and contacted Jack to prepare for action.
Luke hung a large gold chain around his neck, wore sunglasses borrowed from Jack, unbuttoned his shirt, rolled up his sleeves, and swaggered down the community road.
At that moment, the black boy was standing by the community road playing on his phone. He glanced at Luke without much reaction.
This was Luke's advantage in the black community—he blended in. As long as he didn't suppress his natural demeanor, no one could tell he was a cop.
From the opposite direction, a business van drove toward them, catching the black boy's attention.
The van drove toward the black boy, gradually slowing down, which made him wary. He turned to face the van, showing his back to Luke.
Luke approached the black boy, his gaze turning sharp, shedding his previous nonchalance, he suddenly pounced on the black boy. His right hand wrapped around the boy's arm from behind, while his left hand covered his mouth.
The business van stopped as well, the door opened, and Jackson jumped out, assisting Luke in dragging the black boy into the van.
The door closed, and the van sped off.
Luke handcuffed the black boy, searched him, and found a black handgun from behind him.
Luke pinched the black boy's chin, "What's your name?"
"Rorman Baro."
"What's your relationship with Darcy Jordan?"
"No relation, I don't know him."
With a "slap!" sound, Luke gave him a hard slap, "Lie again, and I'll ruin you."
"I'm not lying.
You can't treat me like this, I'm still a kid." The black boy glared at Luke with a malice beyond his years.
Luke picked up the handgun retrieved from the boy, "Normal kids don't carry this. Once you carry a gun, you're no longer a kid."
Luke pressed the gun to his forehead, "Where's Darcy Jordan?"
Jackson frowned slightly, feeling Luke had gone too far.
The black boy stared at the gun, his voice trembling, "I don't know."
Luke unlocked the safety on the gun, "Wrong answer, this is your last chance.
Where's Darcy Jordan?"
The black boy swallowed, his eyes reddening, "He's at home."
"How many people are in his house? What are they doing?"
"There should be three people, I don't know what they're doing."
"Why are you on watch here?"
"They just paid me to watch here and shout or whistle if someone comes."
"Where are they specifically inside the house?"
"They never let me inside, just made me stand watch outside."
"What weapons do they have?"
"I've seen them with handguns and rifles, don't say I told you, or they'll kill me."
"Are there any white people among the three inside?"
"No, no white people ever come here, it's all black people."
"Where did the boy watching with you go?"
"He got hungry and went home for food."
Luke glanced at his phone, "It's only four in the afternoon, what meal is he having? Don't lie."
"I'm not lying. He's from a single-parent family, his mom goes to work, no one makes lunch, he eats when he's hungry."
"When is he coming back?"
"I'm not sure, probably not long. If he finds I'm not here, he'll know something's happened." The black boy pleaded, "Let me go, I won't say anything."
Luke said, "You better not be lying."
"I swear to God, everything I said is true." The boy swore earnestly.
The boy was taken by other officers for holding.
Luke said, "Captain, I think we should act while the other boy hasn't returned, catch the suspect off guard."
Jack had no objections, "Are you sure?"
Luke took a deep breath, "No problem."
Jack looked at the suspect's house, not very large, only one level, easing the search. "What's your plan for the capture?"
Luke's capture plan was simple. He and Jack each led a team; Luke would attack from the back door while Jack's team stayed outside the yard. If the suspect tried to escape in the chaos, Jack would catch him.
