Matthew replied, "We've tracked the whereabouts of the suspect vehicle.

After leaving the vicinity of the supermarket, the car drove along Montana Street towards Highway 1.

It disappeared between the red lights 7c28 and 7c29.

The deputy took them to check the site.

I thought he told you, didn't he?"

Luke was speechless, that stingy old man.

He took out his phone and dialed the deputy's number.

The deputy's voice came through, "Hey, Luke, I forgot to tell you. I'm out on a mission with Raymond and Jenny."

Luke asked, "Where are you now?"

"We've arrived at the spot where the white Volkswagen disappeared. To my left is a cliff and the Pacific Ocean, to my right is a desolate desert.

I estimate the suspect might have driven into the desert."

"Found any clues?"

"Not yet. I suspect the perpetrator might have abandoned the car and fled, we're about to search the desert to see if the discarded vehicle can be found."

"Be careful and stay in touch."

"I will," the deputy responded and hung up.

The deputy, although short-tempered, is capable and experienced, so Luke wasn't worried about him.

Luke contacted Blackie, who had already found the head of the trucker association, but hadn't identified the suspected truck driver.

The deputy and Blackie split the task of leading investigations, leaving Luke idle.

He walked over to Matthew and said, "Retrieve the surveillance footage of the suspect vehicle."

Matthew's fingers clattered over the keyboard, pulling up a piece of vehicle surveillance footage.

A white Volkswagen appeared in the video.

Matthew continued to operate, pulling up a high-definition screenshot where the driver was indeed the suspect, Brown Bryant.

Luke continued, "Bring up the surveillance footage from before the vehicle disappeared."

Matthew operated again, retrieving another piece of footage.

Luke personally zoomed in on parts of the video, revealing the driver was still the suspect, Brown Bryant.

If there was doubt before, seeing Brown Bryant's actions now, it could almost be confirmed that he was involved in the shooting. Otherwise, there would be no need to play dead.

Luke then said to Matthew, "Bring up the map of that area for me."

Soon, Matthew retrieved the map, showing the highway flanked by a cliff on one side and an endless desert on the other.

Luke frowned. Once into the desert, it would be hard to trace the suspect's movements.

Moreover, two days have passed since the incident, and they may have already escaped.

Luke began analyzing Brown Bryant's escape route. Crossing the desert on two feet was impossible, so someone nearby likely picked up Brown Bryant.

The pickup point shouldn't be far from where the vehicle was abandoned, but the deputy still hadn't found that suspect vehicle.

Luke told Matthew, "Play up the video from the 7c28 section, fast forward."

Matthew's video manipulation skills were very professional, pausing every time a vehicle passed by.

Actually, there weren't many vehicles on this road; one would pass every two to three minutes, so checking the surveillance video wasn't laborious.

Suddenly, a large truck that passed under the camera caught Luke's attention.

This large truck was huge and even had a container, reminding Luke of the truck driver who had contacted Brown Bryant.

Luke asked, "How long does it take for a vehicle to pass through these two sections of the road?"

Matthew said, "I haven't checked."

Luke said, "Check the average time for a vehicle to pass through the two sections, and then check the time taken by this large truck."

Matthew asked the captain, "Do you suspect something about this large truck?"

"Just do as I said, we need sufficient reason before suspecting anything."

"Okay, you're the boss."

Matthew began calculating the average time vehicles took to pass through the two junctions, tracking and recording five cars, then checked the time the large truck took.

Matthew said astonished, "Captain, ordinary vehicles take about 5 minutes to pass through the two junctions. This large truck took a full ten minutes.

You just took one look, how did you know something was wrong with this truck?"

"Check the identity of the truck owner." Luke suspected this truck mainly because he had already gathered enough clues to think like a suspect.

Usually, when a car vanishes between two surveillance points, it's assumed the car entered the desert to avoid police tracking.

Luke initially thought that too, but the large truck showing up at a similar timeframe gave him a new idea.

This truck is large enough to contain a Volkswagen. If the car is driven into the truck, it could fake a disappearance.

Even if the deputy combed through the desert, he couldn't find the missing suspect vehicle.

The suspect merely needed to swap back the license plate, and the trail would be completely lost.

Matthew said, "Captain, I've found the truck's details."
