Love Symphony: Let Your Heart Beat for Me
Chapter 19 - 007 An Invitation and a Chance Encounter
CHAPTER 19: CHAPTER 007 AN INVITATION AND A CHANCE ENCOUNTER
The National Day holiday had unknowingly passed halfway, and Qin Mu was dragged out of bed early by her mother, who said, "A senior high school student about to face the college entrance examination, and you aren’t rising early and working late, burning the midnight oil. Are you worthy of your father, the dean of instruction?"
So, under her mother’s pressure, Qin Mu stayed in the study from eight in the morning until the afternoon when Su Wan’s skilled piano practice from next door released her.
Su Wan had just finished playing a practice piece when she saw Qin Mu leaning against the door, munching noisily on an apple.
Su Wan casually flipped a page of the sheet music, "Done with your review?"
Qin Mu chuckled and sat down across from her, "The flower of the nation is tired and needs to relax a bit. Play me ’The Most Dazzling Folk Style’."
Su Wan didn’t refuse and, after thinking about the key, played a short piece for her.
Qin Mu listened and exclaimed, "Wow, not bad, big sis!" then started singing along between bites of apple, "The vast horizon is my love, under the rolling green hills, flowers are in bloom..."
"..."
The two stayed in the room, with Su Wan playing and Qin Mu listening, until Su Yue knocked on the door to remind them it was time for dinner, marking the end of Su Wan’s practice session.
After dinner, Qin Mu’s aunt and uncle went for their usual walk in the nearby park, and Qin Mu hurried out after receiving a phone call. Su Wan wasn’t someone who feared boredom; she always had things to do alone at home like practicing piano, reading books, or listening to CDs.
A "ding" sounded as a text message arrived; Su Wan, still absorbed in her book’s content, glanced at the message: Are you home?
She replied offhandedly: Yes.
As soon as she locked the screen, it lit up again within three seconds; another message: I’m downstairs, come down for a bit.
This message caught Su Wan’s attention. She looked at the sender — an unfamiliar number — and thought it was sent to the wrong person, so she ignored it.
Five minutes later, her phone vibrated again, but this time it was a call.
It was the same unfamiliar number. She paused for a moment before answering the call, "Hello."
"Su Wan." The voice on the other end was low and calm. Upon hearing it, the memory of that night started looping endlessly in Su Wan’s mind.
"It’s me." Fu Weiheng sat in the car, looking at the entrance of the residential area, lit a cigarette, "Come down," and then hung up without allowing room for refusal.
Su Wan stared at the unfamiliar number on the screen, stunned for a full minute. How did he know where she lived?
Under the night sky, Su Wan saw the familiar car as soon as she exited the community gate. Fu Weiheng was holding a cigarette between his fingers, leaning against the car door and smoking. The streetlights cast a dim glow, highlighting his well-defined features, making him appear aloof and distant in the half-light.
He flicked the ash gently and looked at the approaching figure. He walked to the trash can and extinguished the cigarette butt.
She stood still beside him and opened her mouth first, "Mr. Fu."
Fu Weiheng wasn’t in a hurry. He asked with a faint smile, "Practiced piano?"
Su Wan: "Mm."
At that moment, a sedan drove past her, stirring a gust of wind. Fu Weiheng straightened up and instinctively grabbed her wrist, pulling her closer to him.
The warmth on her wrist startled Su Wan. She looked up in confusion, trying to see his face, but he had already let go and asked casually, "Want to grab dinner together?"
It was only 7:30 PM, and Su Wan had just finished dinner not long ago, so she wasn’t hungry. However, she didn’t refuse, still lost in the sudden touch, and nodded absentmindedly, "Okay, wait for me a moment."
The next second, she turned around and ran back to her apartment building. Fu Weiheng chuckled and got into the car first. Five minutes later, Su Wan came out again. The chill of the autumn night prompted her to wear a light cardigan and carry a small bag.
She got into the car and fastened her seatbelt. Fu Weiheng started the car and drove towards the city center. There was a lingering scent of tobacco in the car, and Fu Weiheng worried she might not like it, so he rolled down the window. The cool breeze rushed in, tousling the hair behind Su Wan’s ear.
She glanced sideways at Fu Weiheng and, as her gaze returned, she inadvertently noticed the many cigarette butts in the ashtray. Her mouth moved faster than her brain, and she instinctively reminded, "Actually, smoking can easily lead to infertility."
Fu Weiheng was stunned and looked down at the cigarette butts in the ashtray. His first reaction was to close the lid of the ashtray.
Seeing this, Su Wan thought he was annoyed at her meddling and immediately turned her face away, embarrassed into silence.
Noticing her expression, Fu Weiheng was silent for a while before suddenly speaking, his tone exceptionally gentle and pleasing, "Then I’ll quit."
