CHAPTER 43: CHAPTER 16 NOT WHAT YOU LIKE_2
"Today’s practice ends here." He left this sentence and hurried away.
After that, Fu Weiheng took the elevator straight to the underground parking lot. He strode towards his Cayenne and called Zhang Lin on the way, "Cancel all appointments after this afternoon."
Zhang Lin on the other end was taken aback, feeling a bit troubled, "Cancel? But there’s an important dinner with Shengchuan Group tonight..."
"Have Zhi Yan attend on my behalf."
"Lawyer Jiang? But..."
Before he could finish, Fu Weiheng had already hung up.
He got into the Cayenne, started the engine, and dialed another number.
The busy tone on the phone went on for quite a while. Just as he was about to hang up, the tone paused, followed by a long-awaited voice, "Mr. Fu."
In an instant, Fu Weiheng’s mood, which had been gloomy for a week, brightened, "Where are you?"
Over on Su Wan’s side, she had just gotten off the bus and was walking towards the Fu Mansion’s gate. She held an umbrella while checking the road conditions on the side, and quickly crossed the street. "I just got off the bus, on my way to the Fu Mansion."
Fu Weiheng paused, only now remembering that today was Saturday, the day she went to the old mansion to teach. He curved his lips and stepped on the gas, turning the steering wheel, "Alright, wait for me."
Su Wan was taken aback, "You... you’re coming?"
Fu Weiheng calmly drove out of the parking lot, answering her question with a question of his own, "Why? Can’t I go home?"
That question left Su Wan speechless, making her awkwardly change the topic, "The road up the mountain is slippery because of the rain. You... you drive carefully." Saying that, she didn’t wait for his response and directly hung up.
Fu Weiheng put down the phone, looking at the drizzling autumn rain outside the car window, and the smile in his eyes deepened.
-
The withered yellow autumn leaves from the camphor trees on the roadside fell onto her fresh floral umbrella along with the sudden rain. Su Wan stopped in her tracks and looked up, raising her hand to take it down. Just then, a luxury car sped past on the road, splashing up a meter-high spray from a rain-filled puddle, suddenly drenching Su Wan halfway through.
"..."
A gust of autumn wind swept by, leaving Su Wan standing in the rain, staring blankly at the departing X5. It chilled her to the bone.
...
It was raining, and the mountain road was muddy. By the time Fu Weiheng arrived at the Fu Mansion, Su Wan had finished teaching. She was sitting on the living room carpet, piecing together a puzzle with Ye Fan.
He walked over and silently sat down on the soft chair next to her.
As she fumbled with the puzzle, Su Wan had a sudden premonition, instinctively turning to look back, only to be startled by the person behind, falling back onto the sofa.
This movement startled Ye Fan, who was deep in thought, and when he looked up and saw Fu Weiheng, he exclaimed joyfully, "Ah! Little Uncle!"
Su Wan: "..." Scared to death!
Fu Weiheng ruffled Ye Fan’s hair, then turned his head to look at Su Wan with a smile, "Did I scare you?"
Su Wan, still recovering from the fright, gave him a long sideways glance and continued working on the puzzle.
Ye Fan looked at Su Wan, who was silently focusing, and whispered, "Little Uncle, Teacher Su is upset!"
"I’m sorry." He apologized, leaned over, picked a piece from the pile of puzzle pieces in front of her, compared it to the one-quarter completed puzzle, and easily fitted it into place, "Why didn’t you go to the troupe for practice?"
Su Wan paused her picking fingers for a moment, thought for a while, and said, "It’s Saturday..."
"What about the past few days?" It was only then that he noticed she was wearing an extremely form-fitting knit sweater today that perfectly outlined her slender and graceful figure.
Su Wan remained silent, unsure of how to speak. She had been feeling down due to past memories, lacking the energy to eat, shop, or go to class, let alone go to the troupe for practice.
"You didn’t request leave," he reminded her, "Absenteeism without reason will affect your year-end performance evaluation."
"I..."
"But it’s alright." He lifted his eyelids, his gaze landing on her face, his voice calm and cool, "I can make an exception for you, bending the rules for personal reasons."
Su Wan was stunned, glanced up, accidentally locking eyes with him, feeling a warm current spread through her heart, touched with warmth and emotion.
"Wanwan..."
A clear female voice came from behind, pulling Su Wan back to reality. She turned her head in a flustered state.
Fu Weijin was slowly coming down from the second floor, holding a black jacket, saying, "It’s raining outside, and the drying machine will take a while. Your clothes won’t dry anytime soon, so you can wear my jacket when you leave."
Su Wan quickly stood up and responded, "No need, Miss Fu, this one I’m wearing is enough."
Fu Weiheng paused his actions, raised his head, and asked, "What’s wrong with the clothes?"
Ye Fan responded, "Teacher Su just got soaked from the rain."
Only when Fu Weijin got closer did she notice Fu Weiheng sitting under the sofa, "Hey, Neil, when did you get back?"
Fu Weiheng furrowed his brows, directly bypassing Fu Weijin’s question and looked at Su Wan, "Didn’t bring an umbrella?"
Su Wan glanced at him, recalling the guilty X5 that sped away, and the scare he gave her earlier, raising her lips slightly with a hint of sarcasm, "No, it’s the deep malice of the capitalists!"
Fu Weiheng: "..."
Beside them, Fu Weijin burst out laughing, giving Fu Weiheng a meaningful glance, "Truly, the flowers fall with intent, yet the water flows without love..."
Hearing this, Su Wan inexplicably felt her ears heat up. She took her backpack, planning to leave, "Well then, Miss Fu, since my clothes won’t dry, I’ll head back first and come back for them later."
Fu Weiheng stood up, towering over her instantly, "Let’s wait until later, I’ll send you back then; Old Yu isn’t here today."
Fu Weijin also chimed in with a laugh, "Yes, yes, Wanwan, it’s raining so heavily now. Stay for dinner and have Neil take you back later."
Su Wan looked outside at the heavy rain, thinking it wasn’t safe to leave now, so she nodded in agreement.
However, things didn’t go as planned. After dinner, the old butler Vincent brought news that was hard to tell if it was good or bad: "Continuous rainfall over the past few days has caused widespread landslides in the mountain, blocking the roads, and it won’t be cleared until the earliest tomorrow morning."
Su Wan was shocked, "Wha... what?"
Fu Weiheng looked up from his work documents at Vincent, remaining composed, "Okay, I understand, you may go now."
Su Wan sat stiffly on the sofa, her eyes blankly staring ahead, clearly not having grasped the situation from the news.
Unable to pass through... doesn’t that mean she has to spend the night...
"Stay here tonight, I’ll have someone prepare a guest room for you later."
His clear voice directly finished the thoughts she couldn’t complete, leaving Su Wan feeling somewhat awkward. She hesitated, holding onto her pant legs cautiously, "Um... is there another way to get down the mountain?"
Fu Weiheng smiled softly, decisively, "No."
Su Wan: "..."
