CHAPTER 78: CHAPTER 35: TODAY EVERY YEAR (1)
Time flew by, and the forum incident gradually came to an end.
In the midst of Su Wan’s busy days and nights preparing for the New Year’s Eve party and orchestra performances, it was suddenly December 24th, Christmas Eve.
It was Fu Weiheng’s birthday.
That day happened to be a Saturday, so there was no work. The night before, Su Wan sent Fu Weiheng a WeChat message before going to bed, arranging to meet him at 1 PM the next day.
The next day at noon, after finishing lunch in her dormitory, Su Wan changed into her newly bought clothes, put on the high heels she only wore for performances, and even applied light makeup upon the encouragement of Xu Chengyang and Yao Ye. Just as she finished prepping herself, Fu Weiheng’s call came.
Su Wan quickly grabbed her bag, answered the call, and trot down the dormitory building in her heels: "Neil, you’ve arrived, right?"
With one hand holding the phone and the other on the steering wheel, Fu Weiheng replied: "Yes, I just arrived at your school gate."
Upon hearing this, Su Wan slowed her steps: "Then I’ll walk out to meet you, just wait for me in the car..."
Fu Weiheng: "I’ll walk in."
Su Wan heard the clear sound of a car door closing and responded with an "Oh," ready to hang up but suddenly remembered something and hurriedly asked: "Neil, are you... wearing a shirt today?"
Fu Weiheng paused in his steps, looked down at the collar of his white shirt, and said: "Yes, why?"
"Oh, nothing much." Su Wan couldn’t help but smile, admitting softly and warmly, "I think you look best in a shirt."
Fu Weiheng unexpectedly felt teased, his ears tingling, and laughed softly.
Hanging up the call, just as she stepped out of the stairway, Su Wan saw a familiar figure standing by the dormitory door. She hesitated slightly, chose to ignore him, pulled the collar of her coat, and walked straight out.
Leaning against a corner, Gu Ming heard footsteps approaching, paused his hand reaching for a cigarette, instinctively looked up, and upon recognizing who it was, instantly threw away the cigarette and stepped forward to block her, his voice with a hint of pleading: "Su Wan, can we talk?"
Ever since he saw the photo of Su Wan and Fu Weiheng on the forum, he had come to wait in front of her dormitory for a period every noon, but it had all been in vain. Now, finally seeing her, he couldn’t leave just like that.
Su Wan didn’t look at him, maintained a distant demeanor, taking a step back to keep her distance: "There’s nothing to talk about."
Gu Ming lowered his eyes and looked at her, only now realizing she looked somewhat different today.
She wore a vibrantly colored floral dress, covered with a creamy white wool coat, paired with nude pink high heels.
Her long, sleek black hair draped over her shoulders, hiding her snow-white neck, and her usually makeup-free face was lightly made up today, with a layer of bright lipstick, making her skin look even more delicate and radiant, as tender as an orchid.
Not having seen her for days, she seemed even more dazzling and attractive.
But so what.
Gu Ming self-mockingly laughed inwardly, knowing that such a stunningly beautiful girl couldn’t be his.
Gu Ming pondered for a moment, then slowly said: "Su Wan, I misunderstood, I’m sorry."
"You don’t need to apologize to me." She turned to the side, intending to bypass him and leave.
But Gu Ming grabbed her wrist: "Wanwan..."
Su Wan struggled twice, her voice also cold: "Gu Ming, let go."
Gu Ming ignored her, tightening his grip even more.
She felt some pain from his grip: "Let, let go..."
"Let go."
A sinister voice sounded from behind them. The two turned their heads to find Fu Weiheng standing there, his handsome face clouded with anger. His sharp gaze swept over the hand that wouldn’t loosen its grip, and he emphasized coldly, "Let go."
Gu Ming, taken aback by that piercing look, involuntarily eased his grip. Su Wan seized the opportunity to withdraw her hand, ran to Fu Weiheng’s side, and, seeing his displeased expression, worried something might happen, quickly took his arm, and said softly: "Neil, let’s go."
Pulling back his gaze, Fu Weiheng naturally wrapped his arm around her shoulders, and gently asked: "How’s your hand?"
Su Wan shook her head: "It’s fine."
...
The sound of their voices faded away as Gu Ming watched their intimate demeanors, suddenly feeling as if his heart was thrown to the ground and trampled upon by thousands, suffocating with despair.
The person he loved would never love him back.
