CHAPTER 527: TRAVEL AND NON-TRAVEL TRAVEL CHAPTER FORTY-NINE MOUNTAIN ROAD
"Oh, master, we really can’t move forward; the path is impassable for the carriage." The lich followed beside Lynch, speaking softly, "Beyond the small hill ahead is a deep trench, and there’s no bridge to cross. The only road is to detour west, at least there the valley is passable."
"Understood, Heiss." Lynch used the first two letters of the lich’s true name as its name, instead of its originally lengthy name. This not only made it easier to remember but also constantly reminded the lich of its own situation. The mage’s Eye of Insight pierced through the hill in front, indeed revealing a chasm. He instructed Macken to turn the carriage and then resumed his work on creating the golem.
The lich also fell silent, not daring to act rashly, as Zilvra and Morgan were always watching it. Four eyes formed a tight net, completely enveloping it. Moreover, powerful Holy Power radiated from the little girl teasing the tiger nearby, as well as the knight driving the carriage, all of which were nemeses of undead creatures. Even though Heiss considered himself one of the top strongmen on the Anriel Continent, and at least unmatched on the northern snowfields, he was now completely trapped.
Its eyes flickered with golden flames, a result of the constant burning of necromancy power. But whenever it recalled the painful sensation of the young mage torturing it with his unique magic power, its whole body trembled. "Only by figuring out the source of that power can there be a day of escape," the thought constantly spun in the lich’s head. So its eyes stayed on the dwarf in front, while using its peripheral vision to monitor the mage’s every move.
"Hey, bone rack!" Morgan said to Heiss, "Close those eyes and stop staring at me! I always have the urge to put them out with some p*** when I see them!"
"Oh, my dear dwarf friend, it’s rather challenging for me," Heiss replied. "As you can see, I no longer have eyelids, so how could I close my eyes?"
"You could plaster them with mud!" The dwarf said excitedly, "Use stones as a base, then fill it with clay. If possible, bake it with fire as well, making it more solid. Bone rack, you’re quite adept with fire, such a simple task shouldn’t be too hard for you, right?"
"Dear dwarf, I think you’re still irked that I once hit your bottom with a fireball?" Heiss said, "Please forgive my rudeness back then; after all, distinguishing you from a red bush is quite challenging." The lich stared at the dwarf’s big beard, making its meaning obvious.
"Watch your tongue, lich," the dwarf retorted. "Oh, sorry, I suppose I touched a nerve; you no longer have that organ. I guess I need to constantly remind myself of your appearance, lest I accidentally chop you up as firewood one day. Granted, it would burn rather fiercely."
"You two, quit bickering," Lynch turned his head to say, "Morgan, my friend, Heiss will never tire, so save your energy." He picked up the "troublemaker" from the corner of the carriage and placed a crystal white diamond inside its core. The round demon statue trembled and then floated in mid-air.
"Alright, folks, I proudly announce that my demon statue attendant is finally complete." Lynch patted the top of the metal sphere, happily saying, "This might be the only golem with learning capabilities so far."
The lich Heiss remained silent, secretly regretting. Earlier, because of the dwarf’s interruption, he wasn’t able to see the mage’s final work. Could the diamond inserted just now contain magical power, covered with magic arrays? Such technology was unheard of—truly a significant loss.
"I’ve named it Norton. You can try to communicate with it," Lynch said with a proud smile, "Maybe it will be even smarter than before."
"Why should I pay attention to this metal lump when I can talk to its master?" Zilvra remarked, "Lynch, you should focus on the requests I made before, not on other matters."
"Attention: Zilvra, I have a question," a mechanical, hoarse voice came from Norton, sounding somewhat hard to discern. Everyone’s attention immediately turned to this speaking golem, even the lich Heiss opened his jaw in surprise.
