Mage Legend
Chapter 804 52: Draw
The history of the Anriel Continent can almost be said to have been woven together with various types and scales of warfare. Like the change of seasons or the ebb and flow of tides, different races and civilizations depict their rise and fall in these conflicts. As one of the oldest races in the Anriel World, the history of the Snake-men almost runs through the entire civilization development of the continent. They once established long-term dominance relying on their strong physical qualities and incredible reproductive power and also ceded the throne to the elves as magic gradually rose. In any case, the Snake-men are a great race, one that should not be forgotten by those living in this world.
However, the reality is the opposite of what "should have happened." Very few people still care about this species lurking in the far Southern Swamp. Not only do merchants avoid that area, but no priests ever go there to narrate the deeds of gods, and even the most nostalgic elves no longer care about what happens in that region. In this isolated environment, the Snake-men lived undisturbed for thousands of years until an individual awakened their wild nature, calling them to reclaim their dignity and lead them to regain significance in this world with their own strength.
The Snake-men's war lasted for many years, and before this, no conflict had ever brought such great destruction. People lived in a constant state of panic, without a sense of security, unable to see a bright future. This situation persisted for so long that, even when the war ended, many residents in various places still couldn't believe the news, perceiving the forest on the horizon as an army of great serpents marching at dusk.
Almost no one knows what ultimately ended this war, and this topic has become the cause of endless debates among scholars who seek to record history accurately. Generally, these historians are very humble and cautious, with knowledge making up nine-tenths of their character and pride one-tenth. To verify something, their nine-tenths of knowledge drives them to travel through mountains and rivers, enduring hardships to chase down every detail. But when all this still can't unravel the mystery for them, that remaining pride swells uncontrollably, preparing a "solution" behind their backs.
Thus, disputes became inevitable. Different schools vied to prove themselves right, wasting untold time and money in order to earn "respect" from others. This mirrors the war the Snake-men waged. However, their debates will never uncover the truth. Because the turning point that changed the entire course of the Snake-men war did not take place in the Anriel World.
Even Lynch, who participated personally in the entire turning process, doesn't actually know where that space was located in the multi-universe. Moreover, due to various reasons, everything that happened then seems vague in his memory, with many details lost.
According to his recollection, the white-haired old man sitting on the stump was indeed the Magic God himself. Although he strongly suspected that this image of the Magic God was entirely a figment of his imagination, this minute detail didn't affect the progress of the entire event...
"Lynch, are you very surprised to see me?" the old man said: "I always thought you had long expected this moment to come."
Lynch quickly calmed down from his initial shock and began to scrutinize the person standing before him. The simple robe, the kind smile, and not even the slightest hint of magical energy fluctuation could be felt from him. Yet Lynch didn't trust these appearances, believing that he was capable of perceiving everything unfolding around him. Even regarding the great serpent's true power, he could accurately gauge it with just a bit of observation.
But with this old man, Lynch could not see through him.
"Magic God, there shouldn't be anything for us to discuss, right?" Lynch remained fully alert, cautiously watching the other's eyes, lips, and fingers. For any spell to be cast, it invariably required passing through those three places. With any unusual sign, Lynch's mind would immediately generate a continuous sequence of spells to counter the opponent's offensive.
