CHAPTER 91: TWO PEAS IN A POD [PART 2]

"No one knows, it’s up to the monarch. But I do believe she will be on her feet in no time. Yes, the monarch is the ruler, but she has power. She’s the mother of the empire."

I should save my concern then. Why was I even concerned in the first place? She tried to kill me! But I guess, stupid me, will always have a soft spot for mothers.

There was one time I massaged my stepmother’s sore feet when she was knocked out in bed after making preparations for a ball. I was cleaning her room that day out of punishment for not completing my duties.

I saw how red her feet were, and I was compelled to ease them. I still huff at myself at that memory.

I was really pathetic.

"You’re doing it again."

I sighed, suddenly stressed by this brat. "What?"

"Spacing out."

"Spacing out?"

"That’s what I shall call it whenever you stare blankly at something for too long," she replied, dipping her hand in the water as I did, she swirled her waist and the Koi fish followed the movement.

"Why are you really peeved with the monarch?" she questioned, pinning me with a sharp look like I’d committed a crime.

"This again? I thought that discussion had ended." I rolled my eyes.

"Are you with yourself?"

My body went stiff at her words, and on cue, my gaze softened. "You’re really good at reading people, aren’t you?"

She shrugged. "Spent so much on myself that there was nothing to do except bury my nose in books and read tons of shit. I know tons of shit too."

I was awed by this girl. Who would have thought that a Lycan would share the same interest in me and possibly the same fate? She wasn’t the princess, but she was a reflection of her.

You’d never know until it’s time to look at the mirror, even when you don’t find your appearance staring back at you, but the eyes says it all.

"You’re right," I confessed. "I am peeved at myself. Because I’m getting greedy."

"Greedy?"

"I ended up caving to my desires, and now I’m greedy for more."

Dia looked confused, and I smirked at how naive she could be sometimes. It was understandable given her age.

"It’s funny that when you try to avoid something really bad, we end up getting drawn to it." I brought my gaze to the water and stared at my reflection. "I’ve never been greedy. My entire life, I wanted the littlest of things, and even that little, I could not have."

A mother and a father’s love. I begged the gods every day for it, but my prayers were never answered.

"Now I’m greedy for something bigger than me. Will the gods be silent again?"

"They have always been silent, same as our goddess. In the past, the goddess was more involved in our lives. Birth, union, and everything else about the Lycans. During the times of war and as the world broke from the damage of a supernatural battle, she grew silent, and then Lycans were left to shape their fates. It’s strange because at the same time we still feel her knowing her power and eyes are with us."

"Lucky you."

"What I am saying, Eloise, instead of waiting for the gods not to be silent, take what you deserve, be greedy. For humans, I heard life is too short."

"Coming from a Lycan who has all the time in the world."

She chuckled, but it was lifeless. "You’d be surprised how much a Lycan can relate to a human. An outcast is an outcast, excluding species and superiority."

"Spoken like a true Lycan," I said dryly.

"Stop using the word Lycan."

"How does it feel now, huh? Using the word human in my face all the time. Tsk!"

Dia snorted, but it didn’t end there; she broke into hard laughter, her chin up, her arms coiled around her abdomen.

I simply stared at her, bewildered at first, but then I sneered before joining her in laughter, but my snorts were chaotic, and Dia ceased hers, shooting me with a grimace.

"What is that sound?"

"I think there was a pig nearby." I rushed to my feet.

"There are no pigs!"

"Oh yes, there are." I was quick, but Dia kept tagging along.

So much for alone time.

I watched the two of them, their moment at the pond before they wandered somewhere else. Diana was tagging along while Eloise tried to shake her off.

I had no idea why Diana intended to dress as a handmaid, but I figured it might be about something between them.

Eloise is angry with me. As much as it wound me, I told myself I did the right thing. I can’t have her making public appearances, no matter how much I want her to. It was too risky, and I’m yet to understand the true nature of her bloodline.

"My liege?" Garrick came behind me.

"What is it?" I asked distractedly, detailing how Eloise’s annoyance grew, but she still tolerated Diana anywhere.

She was fond of her. That thought alone brought a smile to my lips. It was even harder to believe that Diana shared the same thing too.

"There are matters at hand to look through. We need you at court," he spoke far too seriously.

I didn’t want to trouble myself with anything today. This day was meant to be spent with my wife, my cock filling up her cunt, and her divine moans resonating throughout our chamber walls. Her limp body to mine as I hold her in my arms, and watch her sleep.

This day was going far from that now, annoyingly so. Maybe I should blame Garrick for bringing that absurd invitation to me in the first place.

I knew how concerning the Debutant Ball was; it should have been my utmost worry, but it wasn’t.

"There is something else, my liege. It’s about Your Grace. Her scent..."
