Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'
Chapter 517: A Trap Tailored to Perfection
CHAPTER 517: A TRAP TAILORED TO PERFECTION
Second, because Luke had once mentioned in passing that the owner of this milk tea shop was a genius who had keenly sensed a business opportunity. Back in college, he used his scholarship as his first pot of gold to invest in the shop, which grew bigger and bigger over time.
It wasn’t just the scholarship—he had also borrowed some money from classmates. Someone who needed to borrow money from friends to start a business probably didn’t come from a wealthy family; otherwise, the startup capital would have come from family funds, not a scholarship.
So how could it possibly be the Nelson Family? Even if the Nelsons had fallen on hard times in recent years, investing in—or even outright acquiring—a milk tea shop would have been easy for them.
To her surprise, Logan explained, "It has nothing to do with the Nelson Family. The investment money was earned by Hunter when he was in college. The Nelsons had no idea."
With that, Selina understood.
She sighed. "I don’t get what the Nelson Family is thinking. A foster son with such talent, who’s still filial to his adoptive parents, is one in a million. If they hate him so much, why not just drive him out instead of keeping him around, as if they’re scheming something?"
Logan neither confirmed nor denied it.
They couldn’t buy the milk tea shop, but Selina didn’t have to wait long before the store manager hurried out and personally made her a cup. "Mr. Reid, Mr. Nelson asked me to send his regards to you both."
Logan nodded as he took it, offering no further comment. "The rain’s getting heavier. Let’s head back to the car."
Selina nodded.
Once inside, she pushed a straw through the paper lid and took a sip. "Wow, this really is good. Since the Nelson Family doesn’t know, could this shop be Hunter’s fallback plan for when he leaves them?"
Logan let out a low chuckle.
A fallback plan?
The man shook his head. "No."
"But with the Nelsons being the way they are, I can’t imagine Hunter staying there forever. Without a fallback..."
"This shop was just him testing the waters. His real fallback goes far beyond this, and when the Nelson Family finds out, they’ll be shocked."
Selina thought for a while, then it clicked.
Hunter’s true fallback was something that would shock—and even frighten—the Nelson Family, but for now, they had no idea. They probably thought they had him completely under their control.
Just then, Kevin called. "Everything’s set up just like you wanted. Sit back and enjoy the show."
Selina arched a brow, clearly pleased.
...
The next morning at nine, Grandma Morris arrived outside the Turner Jewelry Group’s studio with Angela, waiting for Kevin.
The day before, Turner Group had called to request that Selina bring the design drafts and meet with Kevin. But when the call came, a sly idea flashed through Grandma Morris’s mind. Not only did she neglect to inform Selina, she brought Angela instead.
The two looked identical—how could the Turner family possibly tell them apart?
Grandma Morris instructed, "Angela, when you meet Kevin, make sure you speak well. Even though Turner didn’t name you as the lead on this project, you’re still the real daughter of the Morris Family. Selina is always siding with outsiders—I don’t trust her."
"This kind of important collaboration, leaving it to Selina? I can’t rest easy. If you can make friends with Young Master Turner, that would be even better."
Angela put on a sweet, obedient expression. "Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to win benefits for the Morris Family. I’m just afraid my sister will find out..."
Before she could finish, the studio door opened and a man stepped out, glancing at Angela. "Is this the project lead?"
Before Angela could answer, Grandma Morris spoke up. "That’s right—she’s my granddaughter."
The man bowed slightly. "I’m Young Master Turner’s assistant. Please come with me."
Grandma Morris lowered her voice. "Angela, go on. Grandma will handle everything out here."
Selina wanted to be the project lead? Fine.
But Kevin was the one whose word was final. If Kevin personally chose Angela, who could stop it?
All the way in, Turner family bodyguards greeted Angela respectfully, their demeanor nothing but courteous.
The assistant asked in a warm and polite tone, "Miss, I haven’t had the pleasure of asking your name yet?"
Angela had no idea about Selina’s connection to the Turner family, nor that Selina already knew Kevin. At this moment, the way the Turner family treated her like an honored guest completely went to her head.
Nervous yet tempted by the risk, she decided to pretend. "I... my name is Selina."
After all, she looked exactly like Selina.
Sure enough, the assistant showed no suspicion—only more deference. "Miss Selina, the young master has been waiting for you. Please, come in."
Angela stepped inside and found herself face-to-face with a tall, strikingly handsome man.
Kevin’s expression wasn’t cold; with his naturally charming eyes and the artistic aura of a world-famous designer, he radiated a certain magnetism.
When he saw Angela, a flash of disdain flickered in his eyes, but it vanished just as quickly. "Miss Clark, you’re here. Would you kindly let me see the design drafts?"
Angela handed them over, trying to ingratiate herself. "Young Master Turner..."
"Miss Clark, this is for you."
Kevin barely glanced at the designs before smiling warmly and taking out an intricately carved Fortune Jade.
"Here’s the thing," Kevin explained, still smiling. "I’ve reviewed the drafts. These pieces have a very regal and elegant style, so I plan to create a full court-inspired collection. In ancient times, the Fortune Jade symbolized harmony and good fortune. I’d like to present you with the Fortune Jade that represents this series. When the new collection launches, you’ll wear it at the event. How does that sound?"
His smile was gracious. "That way, we can show just how much Turner Group values its project lead."
At first, Angela felt a sharp sting of jealousy—why did the Turner family treat Selina so well, even gifting her such a symbolic piece to show support?
But then it hit her... Kevin had given her the jade ruyi. The real Selina didn’t know a thing about it.
When the time came and Selina couldn’t produce the Fortune Jade, what would the Turner family think?
Angela’s heart raced, adrenaline spiking as a plan to switch the truth with a lie took shape in her mind. "I... I’d be honored. Thank you, Young Master Turner."
Seeing his prey take the bait, Kevin smiled. "No need for thanks, Miss Clark. As long as you like it. I may not be able to attend the launch event myself, so I’m entrusting everything to you. Please, don’t let me down."
His tone dripped with temptation, granting Angela what felt like immense power. Her heart pounded, and she didn’t even stop to question—why wouldn’t Kevin, as one of the chief designers, attend such an important launch?
And why was he meeting "Selina" in secret here, privately handing over a Fortune Jade?
