Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle'
Chapter 598: The Disgraceful Old Hag
CHAPTER 598: THE DISGRACEFUL OLD HAG
The entire livestream chat was stunned.
...
Two minutes earlier.
Selina was still slowly eating her cake when she suddenly heard a commotion not far away.
Half of the seats in this tea restaurant were outdoors. The weather was mild—neither too hot nor too cold—and with the pleasant surroundings, the restaurant had even set up an outdoor service counter. Whenever a guest walked up, a waiter would step forward to greet them.
By the time Ava and Matt’s wife, Jodi White, arrived, the restaurant was already full.
It had been Ava’s idea to come here—this was a famous influencer hotspot she had wanted to visit for a long time. She especially wanted to take pictures in the rose garden with the swing. Seeing so many people here instantly soured her mood.
And it only got worse.
The waiter told them the restaurant had no available tables and that they needed to wait in line.
What a joke. Who did they think they were? Lowering themselves to visit such a tiny little tea house—and they still had to queue up? Ridiculous!
Jodi’s temper flared immediately. Pointing at the waiter, she exploded, "Don’t you know I’m an elder? Haven’t you ever heard of respecting the elderly?"
The staff had seen plenty of difficult customers like this. Maintaining her professional smile, the waitress replied, "I’m truly sorry, but you’ll still need to take a number and wait."
Jodi nearly choked on her own rage.
In all her years, she had never been treated like this. This was just some small-time café, and some lowly waitress—what was wrong with letting her skip ahead? The fact that she hadn’t demanded they clear out the entire place for her was already her showing mercy!
Jodi had been the mistress of the Hill Family for decades. Even though Matt was no longer the head of the family, she still couldn’t shake her arrogant temper. "Fine, fine, just you wait!"
Then she turned to the other customers and roared, "Are you all blind? I’m an old woman, and you don’t even have the decency to give up your seats? Get up, all of you, up!"
Not a single guest moved. One of them even rolled his eyes and muttered under his breath, "Crazy."
Ava felt wronged too. Didn’t everyone know she was one of the most famous society ladies in the upper circles? At past banquets, other heiresses would rise to greet her whenever she appeared.
Yet here, no one paid her any mind. Not only did they not welcome her, but they wouldn’t even give her a seat. It was outrageous!
Just as she was stewing in her frustration, Ava’s gaze flickered and she seemed to spot someone.
Wait... was that Selina?!
Immediately, Ava tugged at Jodi’s sleeve and complained pitifully, "Grandma, I just saw Sister Selina! Don’t you think she’s behind this? With your status, how would these commoners dare not to give up their seats? It must have been Sister Selina’s orders!"
Jodi’s fury ignited even hotter.
In her mind, so what if Matt was adopted? Since the Hill Family’s great-grandfather had adopted him, then everything in the Hill Family should have gone to Matt. If only Charles had been eliminated sooner, things would have been fine. But instead, Charles had gone on to have two children. It was the great-grandfather’s weakness that forced Matt’s hand against Charles—how could anyone blame Matt for that?
As for Jeff and Aaron’s return, in Jodi’s eyes they were nothing but thieves, bandits who had stolen everything from her.
And Selina—Jeff’s niece, Victoria’s daughter—was the enemy too. She was one of the bandits.
Jodi’s rage boiled over. Without a second thought, she stormed forward, completely ignoring the streamers nearby with their live equipment. Marching right up to Selina’s table, she shouted, "Get up! I want this seat!"
Everyone: "...?"
Selina swallowed a bite of cake. "?"
Who even was this woman?
When Jodi saw that Selina had no intention of standing, she screeched even louder, her voice shrill, "I told you to get up! Are you deaf? Get lost and give me this seat!"
Selina was stunned. Who the hell was this woman?
She gave Jodi a once-over, then narrowed her eyes. "How old are you?"
Jodi immediately lifted her chin high. "I’m an elder! Don’t you know the saying about respecting the elderly and caring for the young? I want this seat—you have to stand up! Otherwise, I’ll expose you and make sure everyone turns on you!"
Selina arched a brow. "You look old enough, but clearly your brain hasn’t grown with your age. No one ever taught you the concept of first come, first served?"
Jodi scoffed, full of self-importance. "What first come, first served? My presence here is an honor to you!"
The streamers: "..."
The livestream chat blew up:
[Where the hell did this old hag come from? Totally unreasonable. Everyone else took a number and is waiting—she thinks just because she’s old she can push people around?]
[Good for that girl! Don’t give this hag any face. She’s obviously pulled the age card before and gotten away with it.]
[Can’t stand this anymore. Does this old woman have some kind of problem?]
Selina was about to call the manager over when Jodi suddenly shrieked, "What do you mean by that! I’m talking to you—what’s with that attitude? Don’t you have any manners? Or is it because your mother died early and no one ever taught you to respect your elders? You cursed little brat, may your whole family drop dead!"
Selina’s expression instantly darkened. "You’re looking for death."
"Selina!"
Just then, Ava rushed over. She bit her lip as though deeply wronged, then hurriedly shielded Jodi behind her, tears shimmering in her eyes. In a pitiful voice, she pleaded, "It’s just giving up a seat, nothing serious. Why are you making things difficult for an elderly person? What if Grandma collapses from anger—will you take responsibility?"
"Everyone here is so rude! My grandmother is so old, and yet none of you are willing to let her cut the line. Selina, I thought you were different—but you’re just as ill-mannered as the rest!"
Tears streamed down Ava’s face. "This isn’t at home. Not everyone will bend to your will. Why are you being so unreasonable?"
Selina actually laughed at Ava’s twisted logic. She couldn’t even be bothered to argue and instead raised her hand to signal the manager. "According to your rules, anyone disrupting the restaurant and disturbing other guests should be removed, right?"
"Yes, yes, please wait a moment. I’ll have them escorted out right away..."
The manager started to call security, but Jodi flew into a rage. Straightening her back, she shouted, "You wouldn’t dare! Do you even know who I am?!"
Selina’s eyes narrowed slightly.
The moment Ava appeared, Selina had guessed exactly who this woman was.
Ava called her "grandma"—so she had to be Matt’s wife, Jodi.
"It’s not like that, please, everyone listen to me!" Ava’s eyes shimmered with tears. "You’ve all misunderstood. The reason my grandmother asked Selina to give up her seat is because Selina is actually her granddaughter!"
"Think about it—if you saw your grandmother walk in and you didn’t greet her or offer her your seat, wouldn’t that be rude? That’s why Grandma got upset."
"If you were elders and faced such disrespect from a younger family member, could you really just let it slide? Grandma only asked Selina to give up the seat for her own good. After all, when a junior is impolite, it’s still a family elder’s duty to correct her."
"But what if next time Selina treats someone else rudely? Then what?"
