CHAPTER 146: CHAPTER 146: YOU MUST LIVE, DO YOU HEAR ME? (PART 2)
Standing in front of Sean Hale, Arthur Sterling and his son Henry Sterling turned their faces together.
Seeing Seraphina Thorne in a hospital gown, hair messy, holding a medicine bottle, both men froze.
"Madam?" Sean Hale was also taken aback, "Why... why aren’t you wearing shoes?"
Not seeing an answer, Seraphina scanned around.
Noticing the intensive care unit nearby, she quickly walked over.
Standing by the window, she pressed her face against the glass.
Through the gaps in the blinds, she finally saw him again.
Ethan Sterling lay on the bed, head wrapped in bandages, face pale.
However, the monitor next to him still displayed his vital signs.
He’s alive!
He’s really alive!
Seraphina pressed her forehead against the glass, closing her eyes painfully.
After deep breathing several times, she managed to control her emotions.
She turned around and returned to Sean Hale’s side.
"How is Ethan Sterling... doing?"
"How dare you ask?" Before Sean Hale could answer, Henry Sterling stepped forward and grabbed her arm, "My brother is like this because of you!"
"Mr. Sterling!" Sean Hale rushed forward and held Henry Sterling’s arm, "Calm down, this isn’t Madam’s fault!"
"How is it not her fault?" Henry Sterling shook off Sean Hale’s arm, his cold gaze fixed on Seraphina’s face, "If Ethan wasn’t with her, would he be like this now?"
"You..." Seraphina could barely react, "What do you mean?"
"What do I mean?" Henry Sterling sneered, "Do you really believe it was just an ordinary car accident? The police have already investigated this. The accident is suspicious and likely deliberate."
Seraphina was shocked, "You’re saying... someone wanted to kill Ethan Sterling?"
"What else?" Henry Sterling frowned deeply, "Don’t act innocent. For years, Ethan was safe and sound. It’s only now, because of you, that this happened! You’ve already harmed your father and brother enough, must you also harm Ethan Sterling?"
"Mr. Sterling!" Sean Hale draped a blanket from a nurse over Seraphina’s shoulders, "The issue isn’t solved yet, and no one can confirm that it’s Adrian Chamberlain’s doing. Besides, even if it was him, it’s unrelated to Madam."
"You dare say this as my brother’s assistant?"
Smack!
Henry Sterling raised his right hand and slapped Sean Hale across the face.
"If it weren’t for her, would Ethan have joined Zenith Group? If not for her, would he have returned to the country? Where were you during the accident? Is this how you care for your boss?"
Sean Hale said nothing, face down with clenched fists.
He felt terrible about Ethan’s accident, even somewhat guilty.
If he hadn’t left, if he’d been by Ethan’s side, maybe Ethan wouldn’t be so badly hurt...
Thus, Sean Hale didn’t retaliate after being slapped by Henry Sterling.
"Assistant Hale!" Seraphina turned to hold Sean Hale’s arm, "Are you okay?"
Sean Hale lowered his head and gently shook it.
Seraphina glanced at his expression, took a deep breath, and faced Henry Sterling.
"Speak to me if you have something to say, don’t trouble Assistant Hale. He’s not involved."
Henry Sterling snorted coldly, grabbing Seraphina’s gown collar with his right hand.
"Seraphina, let me tell you, if anything happens to my brother, you’ll be the first person I won’t let off."
"Henry!"
Arthur Sterling walked over, placed a hand on Henry Sterling’s arm.
Henry Sterling gritted his teeth, released Seraphina’s hand, and stepped aside.
Arthur Sterling’s gaze scanned Seraphina up and down.
Noticing her bare feet, he frowned and looked back at Seraphina’s face.
"You were there when it happened. What exactly happened?"
"I don’t know." Seraphina shook her head, "By the time I noticed, a car was rushing towards Ethan Sterling and me."
"Nonsense!" Henry Sterling cursed angrily, "If that’s true, why are you unharmed?"
"That’s because..." Seraphina lowered her lashes, watching Ethan Sterling through the ICU window, "Ethan Sterling pushed me away."
In the choice between life and death, he gave her the greater chance of survival.
Thinking about this made her heart ache unbearably, almost suffocating her.
If she could choose, she’d rather it be her lying here than Ethan Sterling.
Arthur Sterling closed his eyes, walked past Seraphina, and stood outside Ethan Sterling’s hospital room.
"Sean Hale, take her back to her room."
Sean Hale agreed and came over to hold Seraphina’s arm.
"Come on, I’ll take you back."
"But..." Seraphina turned her face, gazing at Ethan Sterling inside the window, "I want to stay with him."
"There’s no point in staying now." Sean Hale gently consoled her, "At least go back, finish the IV, change clothes, and put on shoes before returning."
Seraphina looked down at herself, realizing her current state, and nodded slightly.
With her arm held, she was escorted back to her room.
Sean Hale helped her onto the bed, still concerned, went out of his way to have a nurse check Seraphina’s IV.
The nurse reinserted a new needle, adjusted the drip, and left.
Seraphina leaned against the headboard, curled her legs, wrapped her right hand around her knees.
"Was it really Adrian’s doing?"
"Madam, don’t listen to Henry Sterling’s nonsense." Sean Hale rushed to comfort her, "It’s still under investigation, and there’s no evidence proving Adrian Chamberlain did it. Besides, if it were, he wouldn’t target you. I think... there might be someone else."
"You’re wrong." Seraphina shook her head slightly, "I’m not that important to Adrian Chamberlain."
The girl’s face showed defeat and self-blame.
Sean Hale wanted to comfort her but didn’t know what to say.
Just now, the doctor said Ethan Sterling hasn’t completely passed the danger.
The man on the bed is hovering at death’s door.
No one can say for certain what will happen next.
How could he comfort Seraphina?
"You must be hungry, you haven’t eaten for so long." Sean Hale worked hard to sound relaxed, "Take a rest while I get some food."
Seraphina rested against the pillow, shaking her head lightly.
"I’m not hungry."
"You should eat a little, you have low blood sugar, don’t you?" Sean Hale adjusted her bed’s height, "Rest first, I’ll check what’s available nearby."
Not giving Seraphina a chance to refuse, Sean Hale turned and left.
Seraphina leaned against the pillow, absent-minded.
Therefore, she didn’t notice Sean Hale mentioning her habitual low blood sugar.
All she heard was Henry Sterling’s voice, echoing in her mind.
...
Seraphina, haven’t you done enough harm to your father and brother, now you want Ethan dead too?
...
Henry Sterling’s words were harsh.
But he wasn’t wrong.
If she hadn’t married Ethan Sterling, if she hadn’t gone looking for him that day... Ethan wouldn’t be in this situation.
It’s her fault, she hurt him!
