CHAPTER 148: CHAPTER 148: YOU CLEARLY SAID YOU WOULDN’T LIE TO ME AGAIN (PART 2)
The eyelashes of Ethan Sterling, who had been unresponsive in his deep sleep, trembled slightly.
His dry lips moved a little.
"Sera..."
Feeling his palm under her face, it seemed to move slightly.
Seraphina Thorne raised her face and wiped her tears with the back of her hand.
"Ethan... my husband?!"
Ethan’s eyelashes moved again, and his lips followed suit.
Seraphina turned her face and leaned in close to his lips.
This time, she clearly heard his voice calling her name.
Sera...
Seraphina!
"That’s right, I’m Seraphina, I’m here, I just knew... you... you wouldn’t leave me!"
Seraphina clutched his hand, turned her face, and shouted hoarsely.
"Doctor, doctor!"
A nurse who was just about to leave heard her voice, turned around abruptly, and rushed into the ward.
Outside the window, Sean Hale raised his face, and Arthur Sterling, standing at the end of the corridor, was startled and ran over quickly.
Henry Sterling, who was leaning against the wall, dashed to the window in one step.
Seeing Ethan on the hospital bed slowly opening his eyes, his brows tightened.
"Ethan!"
Arthur rushed over, pushing Henry aside, gazing at his now-conscious son, tears falling from his eyes.
Noticing his own loss of composure, he raised a hand to wipe his eyes.
He gathered himself, reverting to his usual cold demeanor.
"Why aren’t you calling the doctor yet!"
Sean came to his senses, turned around, and rushed to the doctor’s office.
The doctor ran over, along with several nurses, rushing into the ward.
Although Seraphina was reluctant, she had to let go of Ethan’s hand and step aside.
After carefully examining Ethan, the doctor smiled, pulling off his mask, and turned to Seraphina.
"The patient’s condition is good, you can leave now."
"Sera... Seraphina."
Ethan struggled to call her name, raising his right hand.
"I’m here."
Seraphina hurried over and held his hand.
Turning her gaze, Ethan turned his head to survey her from top to bottom.
Noticing the bandage stuck on her forehead, his brows slowly furrowed.
"Does... it hurt?"
Seraphina shook her head vigorously, "I’m fine, don’t worry about me, I’m perfectly okay, you... you also need to be okay."
Ethan gently closed his fingers, holding her hand.
"S-sorry, f-for worrying you."
Just having woken up, his pronunciation was still a bit unclear, but Seraphina already guessed his thoughts.
"What are you saying, I’m your wife after all."
Ethan slightly tugged the corner of his lips.
"Listen well to the doctor’s words, I’m just outside." Seraphina reassured him with a kiss on his hand, "I won’t go far, as soon as you look, you’ll see me."
Ethan lightly agreed, releasing her fingers.
Seraphina stepped out of the ward and immediately went to the window, in a place where he could see her with a turn of his head, waving at him with a smile.
Nurses pushed in equipment to examine Ethan.
Only after more than an hour did the doctor come out of the intensive care unit again.
"We re-examined the patient, he is out of danger, and if there are no anomalies after 24 hours of observation, he can be transferred to a regular ward."
Everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Arthur stood by the window, watching Ethan for a moment.
"Henry, stay here to look after your brother, Sean, come with me for a moment."
Sean turned and walked behind Arthur, and the two headed to the other side of the corridor.
Henry walked over and stood by Seraphina’s side.
Glancing sideways at Seraphina standing by the window, waving to Ethan.
Henry also raised his right hand, waving with a smile towards Ethan inside the window.
Then he turned around and looked at Seraphina.
Suddenly, he reached out his hand, grabbing hers, pulling her away from the ICU window.
Seeing him dragging Seraphina away, Ethan inside the ward nervously lifted his hand.
"Sera... Seraphina!"
Seraphina shook off Henry’s arm, "What are you doing?"
"I just wanted to apologize to you." Henry glanced towards the ward, "Earlier, I was too worried about Ethan and was a bit harsh on you, don’t take it to heart."
Seraphina hadn’t expected this and shook her head gently.
"It’s fine, I know you were just concerned about Ethan."
"As long as you’re not afraid of me." Henry smiled, "You’ve looked after him for so long, you must be tired too, go rest in the ward, I’ve got this."
"It’s okay, I promised him I’d stay by his side."
Seraphina smiled at him and immediately turned back to the window.
Seeing her return, Ethan on the hospital bed finally relaxed.
Henry turned his face, watching Seraphina’s back, frowned, and turned to the other side of the corridor where Arthur and Sean were.
Seeing him approaching, Arthur frowned unhappily.
"I told you to look after Ethan."
"Ethan is in the ICU, with doctors, nurses, and Seraphina, nothing will happen to him, it’s you..." Henry held his father’s arm, "We are here, you should go rest in the hotel, you’re almost sixty, don’t think you’re still young?"
"Yes, Mr. Sterling." Sean also chimed in, "You should go back, I’ll be here. If there’s any development with President Sterling, I’ll inform you right away."
Arthur raised his right hand to press his temple, which had been throbbing from lack of sleep, and nodded gently.
After all, he was old, unlike young people.
After staying up for two days, he already felt utterly exhausted.
"Alright, I’ll leave this to the two of you, I’ll go back and sleep for a while."
"I’ll have the assistant take you," Henry supported his arm, waving to the assistant not far off, "Prepare the car."
Watching the father and son leave, Sean immediately returned outside the ward.
Looking at Ethan on the hospital bed, he glanced around, speaking softly, "Ma’am, think carefully, was there anything unusual when the accident happened?"
Seraphina was stunned, "What do you mean by unusual?"
Sean glanced at Ethan, lowered his voice.
"So far, the hit-and-run driver hasn’t been found yet. I’m worried... someone might try to harm President Sterling again."
Hearing him say this, Seraphina also nervously looked around.
"Then... shall we hire more people?"
"Don’t worry, I’ve already made calls, our people will arrive soon."
Just after Sean finished speaking, Attorney Clayton from the company appeared in the corridor, followed by two tall bodyguards in black.
Seeing Sean, Attorney Clayton hurried over.
"How is President Sterling?"
"He has woken up, no life-threatening danger, if all goes well, he’ll be transferred to a regular ward soon." Sean busily explained the situation.
Attorney Clayton glanced outside the window, nodded towards Ethan, who was looking over, and breathed a sigh of relief.
"These are the bodyguards I’ve brought, from now on, they will guard President Sterling’s room 24 hours a day."
Attorney Clayton waved gently, and the two bodyguards immediately stood on either side of the ward door.
Eyes falling on Seraphina, Attorney Clayton noticed her injuries and frowned.
"Are you alright, ma’am?"
Seraphina shook her head gently.
"That’s good." Attorney Clayton smiled, "Leave this to us, go rest for a while?"
"Yes, ma’am." Sean also encouraged, "President Sterling is awake now, you should go and sleep for a while, if anything happens, I’ll inform you promptly."
Seraphina was unwilling to leave, "It’s okay, I promised Ethan I’d stay by his side."
"Look!" Sean gestured towards the interior of the ward with his chin.
Seraphina turned her head, only to see through the window Ethan was raising his right hand, pointing to her, then to Sean.
The gesture was obvious, he was asking Sean to take her to rest.
"You see, with you here, President Sterling is worried and can’t rest well." Attorney Clayton smiled.
"Let’s go!" Attorney Clayton’s female assistant gently took Seraphina’s arm, "I’ll take you back to your ward."
Seraphina glanced at Ethan waving to her, knowing Attorney Clayton was right, her staying would only distract him.
Looking around, she borrowed paper and pen from a nurse, quickly writing a line, sticking it to the window.
Ethan turned to see the note she wrote—
"I’m going to rest, you should rest well too."
Ethan nodded in agreement.
Only then did Seraphina feel at ease, leaving with Attorney Clayton’s assistant.
Watching her leave, Attorney Clayton turned to Sean with a deep look, "What on earth is going on?"
Sean bit his lower lip, "It seems someone orchestrated this."
Attorney Clayton’s brow arched, "Who?"
Sean shook his head, "It’s still uncertain."
Attorney Clayton glanced at Seraphina’s departing figure and narrowed his eyes.
"Do you think it could be... Seraphina?"
