Chloe was growing impatient. She rolled down the window and called out, “If you want a ride, stop acting all high and mighty about it. Are you getting in or not? Because if you’re not, we’re leaving.”

Edith shot Chloe a sidelong nce, her cool eyes narrowing. “Are we close? Because ever since we got here, you haven’t stopped talking at me, and as far as I recall, I haven’t responded, have I? Or did some gesture of mine give you the wrong idea?”

“Huh?” Chloe stared at Edith, thrown off by her icy, six–foot–tall presence. What kind of game was this woman ying?

Edith’s bluntness and dismissive tone might as well have stomped Chloe’s pride right into the dirt.

Flustered and fuming, Chloe jabbed a finger right in Edith’s face. “You know what? I was trying to be nice, but I guess you wouldn’t recognize kindness if it hit you. With your kind of bad luck, I wouldn’t dare let you in my car anyway!”

No sooner had Chloe finished than Charlotte caught sight of a man stepping out of the Rolls–Royce parked nearby.

He must have been at least six foot two, looking for all the world like he’d just walked out of a fashion magazine–every bit the Calvin Klein model, even fully clothed.

His long legs carried him toward the group in purposeful strides, his white shirt shifting to hint at toned abs and a tension that couldn’t quite be hidden.

He undid his shirt cuffs, rolling them up his forearms as he approached.

He looked ready to swat Chloe’s hand away without a second thought. But Justin hesitated for a brief second, clearly reluctant to touch something so distasteful. Still, he couldn’t let that dirty hand stay iso /iclose to Edith’s face.

Who did this woman think she was?

Everyone’s attention was torn between the luxury car and Justin himself.

After Justin brushed Chloe’s hand away from Edith’s face, Charlotte all but squealed, pping her hands over her mouth. “Oh my god, he’s gorgeous! That’s what I call boyfriend material!”

Chloe was left stunned, her hand dropping limply against the car window.

Justin stood tall, arms folded across his chest, then leaned down to address the

driver. “Would you mind moving this car full of pigs up the road a bit? You’re blocking me from picking up my wife.”

The driver had no idea why he had to pull ahead when everyone else was parked, but when Justin spoke, people listened. He simply did as he was told.

Justin seemed born to be in charge–when he spoke, people just fell in line.

Once the BMW had pulled away, Justin returned to his car, maneuvered it perfectly to Edith’s side, and rolled down the window.

He grinned and whistled. “Hey, kitten, I’vee to take you home. Stop spacing out.”

For the first time that day, a flicker of warmth and amusement lit Edith’s eyes when

she looked at Justin.

Sheughed, pulled the door open, and plopped herself into the passenger seat.

The window was still open.

Outside, Charlotte and the other students stared, mouths agape, practically choking on the envy.

Justin leaned over, carefully fastening Edith’s seatbelt. With the belt secured, he paused in front of her, eyeing the colorful paint streaked across her face–she really did look like a little tabby cat.

He couldn’t help but smile. “I’ve never kissed a kitten before. Want to let me try?”
