CHAPTER 44: CHAPTER 044: TRANSFORMERS APPEAR! SUPERCAR SCALES THE WALL!
It wasn’t just similar—it was the exact same car.
As the roar of the engine grew louder, Dr. Lizard still didn’t know who was coming. He lunged forward, determined to take Gwen down and launch the genetic emitter before anyone could interfere.
His massive, brown-green hand swept toward her in a sudden strike.
Without even glancing at him, Gwen leaned back and slipped out of range.
"Still trying to cheap shot me?"
She hopped backward several steps, widening the gap between them. Then she darted to the edge of the rooftop and looked down.
Sure enough—a fiery red Ferrari, blazing like a phoenix, was tearing through the streets toward them.
"That really does look like Lorien’s car!"
Her heart skipped with excitement, but worry followed quickly. How was she going to protect Lorien when he got here? What if he got hurt? What then?
"How is that possible?!"
Dr. Lizard froze for a moment before shaking his head furiously.
"Scarlet Witch and the Avengers are all overseas! There’s no way they could be here!"
Gwen instantly realized what was going through his head.
He’d mistaken Lorien for an Avenger. After all, the last two times Lorien had been present, the superheroes there had clearly deferred to him. No wonder the Lizard had drawn that conclusion.
Her eyes gleamed with an idea.
"Just you wait," she said, standing with her hands on her hips. "Scarlet Witch will be here soon to crush your head."
"How is that possible?!" Dr. Lizard’s eyes went wide. "Impossible! They’re all abroad—the news only came out this afternoon!"
"But Scarlet Witch can use magic," Gwen replied, tilting her chin up. "What would a lizard brain like yours know about magic?"
"No! That’s impossible!"
The sound of the Ferrari’s engine was getting closer—fast.
Panic rising, Dr. Lizard rushed to the edge of the building to see for himself.
The moment Gwen saw him move, she bolted to the other side of the roof and went back to dragging the genetic emitter toward the edge.
Dr. Lizard looked down.
It really was that car.
Oh no.
No, no! He had to launch the device—now! He couldn’t let them get here first.
With a snarl, he slammed a fist into the rooftop... then spun around.
Where was Spider-Gwen?
A quick glance over his shoulder answered that—she was still hauling the device away.
"You stinking bug!"
Gwen, still straining to drag the device, heard the insult and pouted, refusing to stop.
Just you wait.
It’s not that she wouldn’t deal with him—just that now wasn’t the time. Once this thing was gone, then she’d deal with him.
She gritted her teeth and kept pushing, but Dr. Lizard was already charging toward her, his heavy steps pounding the rooftop.
Gwen glanced over her shoulder.
Less than a meter away!
Just ten more seconds and she could have destroyed it...
But it was too late.
Dr. Lizard was already upon her, swinging those massive fists and whipping his thick tail. She had no choice but to dodge, creating space before glancing at the timer on the emitter.
Only a few minutes left.
She’d have to get through him before she could move it again—and there just wasn’t enough time.
"Woo~~~"
"Woo woo woo~!!!"
Then, from far below, came the deep, roaring sound of a car engine.
Suddenly, the Ferrari’s throttle roared open like the afterburners of a fighter jet.
"Is it really here?"
Gwen darted to the building’s edge and looked down—only to see a fiery red Ferrari scaling the wall at a perfect ninety-degree angle.
Its exhaust pipes weren’t blowing smoke.
They were spewing fire—fire that flared in bursts, creating visible Mach rings. That was how it could grip the building’s side and climb like that.
"So cool!"
Her jaw dropped. She was certain now—this was Lorien Su’s car. But she hadn’t expected it to be this capable. What kind of black tech was this?
"Lorien’s coming? But... will he be in danger?"
Dr. Lizard, hearing the fighter-jet roar of the engine, rushed to the edge himself.
First came surprise—then sudden realization, followed by a burst of mocking laughter.
"Stinking bug, there’s no one in that car! What are you even expecting? Hah! Who can you count on now?!"
Startled, Gwen looked again and realized he was right—there really was no one in the driver’s seat.
A strange mix of relief and disappointment washed over her.
"Wait..."
Her eyes widened. "If there’s no one in the car... how did it get here?"
Dr. Lizard froze mid-laugh.
Right... if no one’s driving... how did it...?
Before he could finish the thought, the fiery red Ferrari shot up the last few hundred meters of the building in seconds.
"Woo~~~!"
It soared upward, passing between Gwen and Dr. Lizard—
And then, right before their eyes, Jetfire transformed in midair.
Ding Ding
Mechanical modules shifted and locked into place; a sleek head emerged, the chest forming from a roaring engine block, armored plates sliding into position, engines locking, a crimson longsword taking shape at the hip.
In the span of moments, a towering Transformer appeared in the air and came crashing down onto the rooftop.
Bang~!
Wind blasted across the roof as he landed—a flame-wreathed mechanical giant, over nine meters tall, long red sword strapped at his waist.
Gwen, at 1.7 meters, and Dr. Lizard, towering at 2.6, still had to crane their necks to take in Jetfire’s face.
From afar, the TV station’s helicopter crew went wild at the sight.
