CHAPTER 301: HER VULNERABLE SIDE

(Author’s POV)

"When did I open the window?" Myra scratched her hair in contemplation as she felt a gust of cold wind on her exposed skin. Snapping her finger, she muttered in a coherent, childlike voice, "Ahhaaaa~ it must be my cutie .... cutie mum~ ma." She hiccupped, which was followed by a carefree giggle, "Le~ .... Mee~ ...... clo~ ze~ ... it.

With staggering steps, she hopped and strode her way towards the window to latch it. After shutting it tightly, she turned around and mumbled, "Now~ .... should I~ *hiccup* ... fin~d yuhh, switchy? Umm~ *hiccup* .... Where are you hiding? Come out, come out." She was totally out of her senses as she rubbed her palms together.

Myra took a step or two forward, but her feet got tangled together and she lost her entire balance. A squeal escaped her mouth as she instinctively squeezed her eyes shut and started falling forward, bracing for the impact to hit her.

But surprisingly enough, the fall~ ... it never happened.

Instead~ ... two strong, firm and brawny arms caught Myra in time and held her in an iron grip from behind, securing her in his warm and assuring embrace. The person then steadied her body and whispered near her earlobe, his voice dark, deep, husky and mesmerizing, "You still don’t know how to be careful, hmm. Still stumbling as always."

Myra felt her soul leaving her body in that instant.

She was about to scream at the top of her lungs, but before she could, the person covered her mouth with his right hand and murmured, his breath came out uneven, laboured and broken, "Ssssshhhh .... I won’t hurt you, Myra."

She instantly felt the dampness on her back. Even with Fabian’s jacket, she could feel the heat radiating from that person’s body.

Their bodies were pressed tightly, so much so that not even the air could pass between them. She mumbled something, but because her mouth was covered, only a blabbering sound could be heard.

"Promise me, you won’t try to shout again, and I promise to remove my hand, ohh~kay?" the person said, his voice hoarse, yet the softness in it was inevitable to discern.

Myra nodded repeatedly like a wobbly head. She was still in her drunken state. As promised, that person removed his hand, and Myra spoke, her voice came out slurry and indistinct, "Who~ ..... ahhh~ yuhhhh *hiccup*? H~ ow di~ d yu~hhhh *hiccup* ge~t in~side?" Realizing something, she exclaimed, "Ohhhhhhhhhhwwww~ .... You must be~ ... *hiccup*~ ...... that naugh~ ty switch .... that got lost. But when~ ... *hiccup* .... did you start talking, hmm?" She furrowed her brows together.

The person was speechless by her utter gibberish. He knitted his brows and commented, "You have been drinking? Seeing that you are completely wasted, with whom did you get drunk? Was it that young Prof., you call your longtime friend, huhh? Did you drink with Fabian Stephens till this time?" he asked with a dangerous tone when he noticed she was wearing Fabian’s jacket. His eyes were a shade or two darker. A murderous glint flashed across them.

In a fit of unrestrained urge, he flipped her to face him, pinning her back against the wall, beside the window.

Then he raised Myra’s chin gently and looked at her flushed cheeks and swollen mouth, and spat, "Why are you wearing his jacket?" he took it off and threw it to the floor in disgust.

Brushing her lips with his rough, callused thumb, he jabbed another question her way, "Why is your mouth swollen? And~ .... why the fucking hell do you smell like that damned son of a bastard, huhh? Did you~ ... did you kiss him? Answer me. Did you and him~ ..... " he hesitated to complete his words. His wolf was fuming inside him.

As the room was mostly dark, Myra couldn’t see who it was, so she reached for his face and caressed it with her fingers. His hair were drenched in rain, few water droplets had fallen on his cheeks. She wiped them off and spoke, "Yuhhh~ ...... ta~lk .... too much. Keep quiet, will yuhh?" She then placed her fingers on his lips and muttered, "Ssssshhhh."

Her intoxicating and warm breath fanned at his chin, and the desire buried deep within him was eager to come out any minute. He was about to say something, but Myra didn’t let him speak, "Yuhhhh~ ... don’t listen, huffff. I shou~ld shut you up." She whiffed his cologne and uttered, "Ummm~ .... Such a nice sh~cent."

Then, out of nowhere, she stood on her toes and, without a warning, pressed her lips to his, giving him a light peck.

He went into a state of utter shock at Myra’s abrupt actions, but soon his lust took over him, consuming him whole. Myra was about to pull back, but he grabbed the back of her neck and kissed her, hard and raw.

Myra was struggling in his arms. She was out of breath because of the intensity of that kiss, mumbling in his mouth. Seeing her like that, he restrained himself and pulled back.

At that very moment, the window came undone, and the street light illuminated the person’s face.

Myra’s eyes dilated when she saw who it was. She almost yelled, "Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu~ ..... You~ .... you~ .... you are~ .... Al~ alic Ever~ ests?" She narrowed her eyes, her mouth agape as she poked her index finger at his drenched chest animatedly, "You~ are~ ... huhh~ .... That’s impo~ssible?"

She rubbed her temples, then rubbed her eyes to confirm something. Then she muttered another gibberish, "My switch is lost, and you are here. Sooo~ ... are you my room switch?" She was utterly perplexed. Then out of nowhere, she started laughing and said, "Hehe, the grea~t Alal~ic Everests is mahhh~ switch ... haha~ ... I have Ala~lic Eve~rests as my switch."

As if a switch had flipped in her mind, her demeanour changed, and she muttered, "But~ ... Why are you here? No~ yuhh, tell me ... why are you everywhere?" She pulled his cheeks, stretching them. "Ohhh~ .... mahhh~ gosh~, this dream~ .... it feels so real." She thought it out loud so that Alaric heard it.

He was confused and left bewildered by her absolute rambling as well as by her actions and words. When he got to know where Myra and her family were living, he came rushing here and had been waiting for her since. He was angry and at the same time, he was delighted as well. That he finally found her. But he was never expecting such a turn of events.

All of a sudden, she started lashing out at him, "Stop chasing me, you stupid, stupid~ ... wolfie. Just stop it ...... Wherever I go, I see you or your brothers lurking around ...... You lot are everywhere. When I was in Damona, you were there at the airport. Now, I have come to Esteria, and you are here as well. I see you ... ~eeeeeeeeverywhere."

She then started counting the times she had seen or heard about the brothers’ presence, "You were at the mall, at my university campus, at the seminar. Huhhhh~ .... Not even that, you are even invading my thoughts and my dreams. Pleaseeeeeeee~ ... please let me go. I promise our paths won’t meet again. You can live in your werewolf world happily, and I can live a happy, normal and carefree life with my family here. So, please~ I don’t want to run away again," saying this, she started sobbing vulnerably.

Her desperate pleas, her tear stricken face, her helpless whimpers were enough to make both Alaric and Alex’s hearts clench. They felt suffocated from within, seeing her in this state. All their anger, lust and desperate thoughts dissipated in that instant, replaced by the urge to comfort her. He hugged her into a gentle, reassuring embrace, burying her face in his chest as she cried out loud.

He patted her bare back, rubbing it soothingly and said, his voice came out in an apologetic and guilty whisper, "I am sorry, Myra. I am really sorry."

She spoke between her sobs, "You~ .... *sniffle* are a jerk. You know~ ... how difficult it has been for me? Do you know~?"

"I know~ ...... I know what you have gone through," Alaric said, his voice calming. "I know~ .... But why did you run away from me~ ... from us? If something was troubling you~ ..... You should have come to us."

"You won’t understand~ ..... even if I tell you, you won’t," she uttered. "Because you are a jerk, you have always been one to me," her voice came out low and broken in the end.

He was once again left speechless. He knew he couldn’t deny her words. He had acted like a jerk to her. Hating her, despising her, and even, a few times, they had a heated verbal spat with each other.

Alaric kept a firm hold of her in his arms, and soon her sobs were replaced by even breathing. She had fallen asleep in that position. He shook his head and smiled at her, then swept her from the floor in one quick motion.
