Mated to the Mad Lord
Chapter 320: Unlucky
CHAPTER 320: UNLUCKY
"Your total is 50 million! You can be discharged, but it would be put on your credit!" the doctor said, even as he stared more at the pad in his hands than the bewildered looks on the faces of the four people in front of him.
"I would recommend paying up as soon as you can, especially since the new policy of the hospital has an interest fee attached to it the longer—" but this time around, the four people he had been speaking to didn’t find a place in their hearts to listen and let him finish before the oldest among them erupted in anger.
"50! 50 million! Are you raving mad?"
"We spent just four days in this hospital and we’re not even completely healed!" Luke barked in anger, even as June, sitting on her bed, lowered her head as she tried her best not to cry.
Oliver and Sarah, their children, had equally dark and stony expressions as they stared at the doctor.
They weren’t completely healed but had collectively decided to leave when they realized that the hospital not only didn’t know what was wrong with them but the illness was also getting better on its own.
’If rest and food were the problem, then they might as well do that on their own!’ They all thought before informing their doctor that they would like to leave, only for him to come with a bill that made their jaws drop to the ground in shock and anger they couldn’t hide.
"There are four of you and this is a VIP room! What exactly did you expect? Why ask for it if you can’t—"
"Shut up! Is this how you rip off innocent people? We will sue you!" Luke opened his mouth to scream again, face red from the anger that boiled up from within him."We were told that we could get better treatment in the VIP rooms after the doctors kept on telling us that they had no idea what was wrong with us!"
Finally, June also spoke as tears flooded her eyes, and she bobbed her head up and down while wiping tears off with the back of her hands.
"Yes! We were told that we could even get a discount for a room since there were four of us!" June wept, even as she slowly wanted to scramble off the bed to get on her knees and beg the doctor.
Their clothes looked really good, and it was clear that they were all branded, which was what shocked the doctor the most.
But what June was about to do—before she could even do it—he began to speak even more harshly than before.
"Didn’t you read the folder you were handed at the front counter? Moreover, this is a private hospital! What did you think?"
"We cater to the richest of the rich!" he snapped with visible anger in his gaze, as his gaze flicked through all of them, stopping on Sarah for only the briefest moment, eyes flickering over the way she had bared her shoulders, the jacket she wore fallen to the side to show the swell of her chest."This has nothing to do with me! I’m just here to inform you of how things are!" he said before storming out in anger, slamming the door behind him.
But the door had barely been slammed shut when the entire family turned to look at Sarah, aware enough to have realized the flicker in his gaze when he looked at her.
"Relax!" Sarah sighed with a hint of frustration on her face. "I’ll take care of it!" she said, even though the anger in her gaze couldn’t be hidden as she wondered why she had to keep backing up a family intent on dragging her down.
’Why am I so unlucky? At least Violet was lucky enough to attract the gaze of the district lord. Why can’t I do the same and distance myself away from this bloodsucking family?’ she thought to herself, even as she turned her gaze to the window, considering the fact that her bed was the closest to it.
Oliver didn’t speak, but even without speaking to Sarah, they were close enough for him to be able to read her frustration, and frankly, he didn’t blame her.
When you have a gambling father and a dumb mother, there was only so much one could take. His eyes widened ever so slightly as he noticed the glance Sarah gave him before turning her gaze back to the window.
That night, Sarah stepped out of the hospital room and did not come back until the next morning, with a slight limp in her leg, even as there were some small cuts on her face.
June, her mother, instantly ran towards her in concern.
"Are you okay, are you hurt?" But the words were barely out of her mouth when Sarah raised her hand and slapped her right across the face, not surprised to see her fall to the ground in shock.
"If you cared so much, you would have gone with me!" Sarah said in a low voice, even as she jumped on her bed and covered herself with the sheet. Oliver didn’t move from his own, which was beside Sarah’s, and he didn’t speak either but simply looked at her with a look of concern."There were ten of them. More than I thought, but nothing I couldn’t handle!" she whispered under her breath, even as she closed her eyes and willed herself to go back to sleep. Her body slightly trembling under the sheet, but she willed herself to still her body until no hint of it could be seen.
She tried to sleep, but no matter how tightly she closed her eyes, she knew it would be impossible as she willed herself to dream of a lord that would rescue her and take her away from all the suffering she was going through.
June, her mother, only cried harder, stunned speechless, while Luke didn’t even bother to turn his gaze towards her as he spoke to them all, aware that although they lay on their beds under the sheets, none of them were asleep.
"We’ll leave tomorrow! We’re currently broke right now, but we should be able to sell some things and get some money!" he said, the smile on his face increasing the longer he spoke.
"Once I get the money, there are some things I can place the money on, and I’m confident we’ll get three—no, five—times the return!" he announced with a smile, speaking in a tone that showed he didn’t doubt his words in the slightest, even though the remaining three wanted nothing more than to bash his head in at that very moment.
