CHAPTER 1792: CHAPTER 1771: THE PERIOD AT THE END OF HAPPINESS
Brian is also quite old, but looking at him and listening to his voice, it’s really hard to stand against it.
Gao Yang sighed and said in a soothing tone, "Go ahead, I’m really not lying to you this time. You don’t have to worry about feeling like a dream is shattered again. Make the call."
Looking at Brian, and feeling that Gao Yang’s voice was indeed quite kind, Rebrov thought for a moment before opening the umbrella in his hand and holding it over Brian’s head.
The light went out, the phone automatically turned off, Brian took a few heavy breaths, then dialed again, waiting for the light to reappear, he pressed it suddenly, and put the phone to his ear.
After a moment, Brian said in a trembling voice, "No response, why no response?"
Gao Yang said in surprise, "No response? What do you mean? No one answered? That’s impossible."
Brian took down the phone, looked at it, and with a long sigh, he said to himself, "Didn’t get through, that’s great, it didn’t get through."
Brian pressed the call button again, and after waiting for just two or three short seconds, Gao Yang heard Brian suddenly hold his heavy breathing, then after a moment, something seemed to choke in Brian’s throat, making a strange gurgling sound before he loudly said, "It’s me, Kate, it’s me!"
As Brian spoke, he squatted down to the ground, supporting himself with one hand, then simply fell back sitting in the rain.
"Kate, are you, all right?"
Listening to Brian’s almost devout joy, Gao Yang snapped his fingers twice, then said to Rebrov, "Leave the umbrella for him, let’s go."
Before Rebrov could respond, Brian suddenly raised his head and shouted, "No, you can’t go, please wait, please stay, there’s a gun pointed here, please wait."
Gao Yang shrugged and said to Rebrov, "Then come in, close the door, and don’t listen to what you shouldn’t hear."
Rebrov got in the car obediently and closed the door, Gao Yang chuckled and said, "How was the invitation, smooth?"
"Smooth, very smooth, the old man went crazy, shooting at the rooftop, another person threatening to kill everyone inside, once I said what you taught me, they came out immediately without saying anything."
Gao Yang exhaled and said with a smile, "I knew he’d behave, oh well, let’s just wait a bit, with Brian here we are in no danger. Actually, we should’ve kept further away earlier, that old man really went mad, always thinking of perishing together with me, but now it’s better, he’s more afraid of dying than anyone else, believe it or not?"
Rebrov curiously asked, "What’s going on here?"
Gao Yang waved his hand and laughed, "Don’t ask, it’s just a sad love story, and now I’ve given it a happy ending. Alright, let’s wait, it’ll probably take quite some time."
Contrary to Gao Yang’s expectations, Brian started knocking on the car window after just two or three minutes.
Though Gao Yang couldn’t see Brian’s face, he could still sense the joy radiating from Brian inside and out, an extreme joy.
Rebrov opened the car door, and Brian loudly said, "You come down, I know you’re not just a messenger, no matter who you are, take this."
It wasn’t clear what Rebrov received, and then Gao Yang heard Brian continue in his extremely joyful voice, "Thank you for passing the message, and thank you for holding the umbrella for me. There’s one hundred thousand US dollars inside, today I’m happy. Alright, now you come out, I’m going in."
Rebrov looked at Gao Yang, Gao Yang smiled and said, "No problem, go out."
Rebrov went out, Brian sat down in the driver’s seat, casually closed the car door, and said with great emotion, "I’ve lived for sixty-three years, and today is the happiest day of my life. I’ve never truly touched happiness, never tasted such a flavor of joy. Listen, kid, it’s not easy for me to feel grateful to someone, but now I really, really am very, very grateful to you, I want to kneel down and kiss your boots, using all the most beautiful words I can think of to praise you."
Facing forward, after saying a few joyful words, he loudly said, "I won’t be able to repay you, and I won’t have the chance to reciprocate because I’m about to go to Moscow, to live the peaceful and happy life I’ve dreamed of, and I can’t give you money because I’m going to take a large amount of money to enjoy the rest of my life."
Gao Yang smiled sincerely, "Congratulations, I advise you to better have some hot soup, find a warm place to get a good sleep. If you catch a cold, that won’t be good."
Brian reached out and took something out, placed it on the dashboard, laughed and loudly said, "I can’t take risks anymore. I’d love to say I’ll do something for you in return, but I really can’t take the risk, so I can’t make a promise. But I can give you something you want. This is my card, call me, and I’ll tell you how to find Djo. Also, the people I brought, they’re the cannon fodder I found, and now I’m retiring, I’m not doing anything dangerous anymore in the future, so they need to be dismissed. If you need them, I’ll have them work for you, for free, they always listen to me, but I think you might not need them."
Gao Yang smiled, "Indeed, I don’t need them, but I do really need to know how to find Djo."
Brian laughed, "I really can’t focus on telling you now, I feel like I’m about to explode, I can’t explain much now, call me, I’ll be waiting for your call after I calm down. Alright, now go, and lastly, thank you!"
Brian pushed open the car door, got out, and then took a small walkie-talkie from his pocket, pressed it, and loudly said, "Disband, we’re leaving, let this car leave, they’re my friends, alright, quickly gather, we’re leaving."
Brian hopped and skipped away.
Rebrov got in the car, closed the door, and after driving a while, suddenly said, "Passing a message and holding an umbrella gets you one hundred thousand US dollars, is it always this profitable following you?"
Gao Yang smiled, "Indeed, I can’t promise anything else, but with me, there’s definitely money to be made."
After speaking, Gao Yang glanced at his watch and smiled, "It’s still early, we can go back tomorrow morning, and just in time, there’s also someone to meet here in Odessa, so let’s head to the port, we’re seeing someone, and then we can check out my heavy artillery."
"Heavy artillery?"
"Yes, 36 pieces of 152mm artillery, they’ve been moved to the port long ago, initially meant to be sent for use, but ended up not being needed, wasting valuable transport capacity, so they’ve just been sitting here, do you want to check them out?"
