CHAPTER 61: CHAPTER 0061: MISERY LOVES COMPANY (PART 1)

Zhang Bin drove to the Qingshan County Police Station, parked his car, and walked in carrying a plastic bag.

He approached an officer and said, "Officer, I believe you’ve arrested a man named Ma Rufei, thinking he’s an imposter? I’m here to vouch for him. The weight loss pills I developed are what made him look like this..."

"Arrest him!" a policeman shouted, a look of delight spreading across his face.

Instantly, a dozen officers who had been lying in wait swarmed over, throwing Zhang Bin to the ground. CLICK. They snapped the handcuffs on him.

Zhang Bin was baffled. What is going on?

If this had been anywhere but a police station, he never would have surrendered so easily. Even now, resisting or escaping would be a simple matter. He could shatter the handcuffs with a flick of his wrist and neutralize all the officers in a few moves.

"Why are you arresting me?" Zhang Bin demanded angrily.

"Hahaha..."

All the policemen roared with laughter. The deputy chief, Wan Yong, said mockingly, "I’ve never seen such a stupid criminal. Did you really come here to vouch for a murderer? Didn’t you know we were just bluffing to lure you in?"

"What? Ma Rufei is a murderer?"

Zhang Bin was stunned, his face a mask of disbelief.

"Go on, keep up the act," a policeman sneered, kicking Zhang Bin. "You and your accomplice killed Ma Rufei. Then, using your accomplice’s resemblance to him, you impersonated him. But with such a huge weight difference, did you really think Mrs. Ma and his friends wouldn’t notice?"

Zhang Bin was so angry he was speechless. Damn it, are all cops this imaginative? It’s as if they saw it happen with their own eyes.

"They caught the murderer’s accomplice? That’s great, just great!"

Mrs. Ma and Ma Rufei’s friends grew excited. A few of the more aggressive ones tried to rush forward and attack Zhang Bin but were held back by the police. "He’s only a suspect. Don’t beat him to death."

Zhang Bin was so furious he could have spat blood. So if I were a real criminal, they could just beat me to death?

"Move it, move it..."

Deputy Chief Wan Yong and another officer escorted Zhang Bin into an interrogation room—the very same one Ma Rufei was in.

Seeing Zhang Bin brought in, also in handcuffs, Ma Rufei was momentarily stunned. Then he doubled over, clutching his stomach, laughing so hard he could barely breathe.

"What the hell are you laughing at?" Zhang Bin grumbled with a wry smile. "It’s all your fault for not explaining things, you idiot. Now I’m your accomplice, and we’re partners in crime."

"Wahaha..."

Ma Rufei erupted in another fit of laughter. He had never experienced anything so absurd in his entire life.

"Get serious!" Wan Yong bellowed, slamming his palm on the table with enough force to nearly shatter it.

Ma Rufei finally managed to stop laughing.

Zhang Bin spoke earnestly, "Officers, this is a genuine misunderstanding. I brought the weight loss pills with me. We can test them right here. Deputy Chief Wan, I see you’re a bit overweight yourself. It’s a perfect opportunity for a demonstration."

However, the police weren’t about to believe him. Why would they ingest pills brought by a suspect? What if it was poison?

They scoffed at the suggestion and proceeded to berate Zhang Bin and Ma Rufei, demanding they confess their crimes immediately.

Zhang Bin and Ma Rufei exchanged glances, the utter absurdity of the situation written all over their faces.

"Name? Where are you from?" an officer began the interrogation.

"Zhang Bin, from Sanchahe Village..." Zhang Bin answered, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. An idea suddenly struck him. "Let me make a phone call. I’ll have someone come and prove this is all a misunderstanding."

"Thinking of calling your accomplices so they can escape?" Wan Yong said with contempt. "Do you think we’re that stupid?"

"I’m calling Deputy County Chief Liu Qian," Zhang Bin stated. "He can verify that this is a misunderstanding."

"You know Deputy County Chief Liu?" Wan Yong’s expression changed.

"Of course," Zhang Bin said, then promptly recited Deputy County Chief Liu Qian’s phone number from memory.

Wan Yong hesitated for a moment before using his own phone to dial the number. He then handed the phone to Zhang Bin.

"Uncle, it’s me, Zhang Bin. Ruolan’s boyfriend..."

"What? You’ve developed a Divine Medicine for weight loss that shows results in half an hour? You’re at the police station? I’ll be right there," Liu Qian said.

He might not believe anyone else, but having witnessed Zhang Bin cure Elder Master Liu’s cancer in half an hour, he was inclined to believe in Zhang Bin’s miraculous abilities. Perhaps Zhang Bin really had developed such a miraculous weight loss pill.

Seeing that Zhang Bin truly knew the deputy county chief, the officers exchanged bewildered looks.

Could this really be a misunderstanding? But how could such a miraculous weight loss pill exist?

Zhang Bin and Ma Rufei both inwardly breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, someone dared to believe in the power of the weight loss pills—and a deputy county chief at that.

Before long, Liu Qian arrived.

Wan Yong respectfully led Liu Qian into a conference room. Zhang Bin, who had been moved there, stood up and said awkwardly, "Uncle, sorry to trouble you."

"Not at all. This is a good thing," Liu Qian said with a smile before turning to Wan Yong. "His name is Zhang Bin, and he possesses remarkable medical skills. It’s entirely possible that he’s developed a miraculous weight loss pill. Since he’s brought them with him, let’s just test them on the spot."

"Yes, of course," Wan Yong nodded repeatedly, then scanned the crowd. "Who among you is willing to be the volunteer?"

The room fell silent. Not a single person dared to step forward.

"Qin Xiaolang, you wasteful woman! You can’t even recognize your own husband! You should take one of these pills; you need to lose some weight anyway. Let me tell you, if you miss this chance, you won’t be able to buy these pills even if you wanted to," Ma Rufei said, glaring at his wife.

"You impostor! You think I’m an idiot? Trying to trick me? Not a chance! Did you kill my husband?" Mrs. Ma bent down, pulled off her high-heeled shoe, and hurled it at him. It struck Ma Rufei squarely on the forehead.

"OW! You wasteful woman, have you lost your mind?" Ma Rufei cried out, clutching his head, his frustration reaching its peak.

Zhang Bin nearly burst out laughing. This is just too hilarious!

"His voice sounds like Old Ma’s, but how could he lose so much weight in a single day? It’s not scientific," a portly man said, looking at Ma Rufei in astonishment.

"Big Fat Worm, have you forgotten we were on a mission together at two o’clock this morning?" Ma Rufei said, staring at the stout man.

"Huh? How do you know about that? Have you been stalking Old Ma all this time and finally made your move today?" the stout man retorted, looking shocked and furious.

Ma Rufei nearly fainted.

Liu Qian stood 1.78 meters tall and weighed 90 kilograms. While not obese, he was still significantly overweight. "Since no one else dares, I’ll try it," he said calmly. "I’ve been meaning to lose some weight anyway."
