Mountain Sitting Immortal
Chapter 483: Lie Detector.
CHAPTER 483: LIE DETECTOR.
Even though he has never met the figure who cursed the founders of the sect with a curse that remained for more than ten thousand years later and has transferred from generation to generation seamlessly, he knows not to mess with such a figure.
It is a matter of common sense to him not to mess around with someone capable of making a curse that can suppress him. But apparently, he needed to threaten his fellow cultivator with death before she could realize this truth.
He sighed and said, "The curse has been lifted. Do you want to leave the sect or stay around?"
She replied, "I don’t want to leave yet. I want to reach the limit first before moving upstream."
He looked at the metal ring that his two avatars were inspecting and said, "If this goes well, you might not need to leave the sect at all."
He was about to explain what he meant, but she asked him. "I’m not going to mess around. But I have one last question. Do you think he was telling the truth earlier?"
He knew that she was asking about it because she had obsessive-compulsive disorder and couldn’t let things go, but he still got angry.
He sighed in frustration and said, "Oh, come on! I thought we were over this."
Then he turned to her and asked in anger, "Will your disorder be an issue here? Do I need to tie you up and restrict your freedom to stop you from endangering the lives of everyone for your curiosity?"
She sighed and said, "I don’t want to cause problems. But I simply have to know this much. I have to know if he was feeding us lies or if I could count on the little he told us. If I can’t be sure, I won’t be able to let it go."
The golem’s voice dropped as it said in anger, "Very well. Prepare to be restricted and have your freedom taken from you."
Before the matter could escalate further, the third and silent patriarch interjected and came to the rescue.
Thunder Drake said to them, "He wasn’t lying."
Lady Evergreen turned to him and asked hopefully, "Really?"
He replied, "Really. I could tell from his brain waves and areas in his brain with neurons firing that he wasn’t using the creative parts of his brain to come up with lies. He was honest."
As a lightning cultivator and a powerful one at that, he is especially sensitive to the flow of electricity. Even the flow of electricity along neurons when they fire can’t escape his perception.
He is also very familiar with the pattern of neuron activity and brain waves, so his claim that Arthur wasn’t lying is trustworthy. Lady Evergreen was surely glad to hear the confirmation from him.
She sighed in relief and said, "That’s great. Now I can let my curiosity and my greed die in peace."
The mention of greed made Sword Flash snort and say in disdain, "I wonder how you can be greedy in this situation and not afraid for your life."
She replied, "Greed is actually quite reasonable in this case. I don’t know what’s going on exactly with Arthur and this trial and why the founders were sent here, but I am sure that it has to be related to something of incredible value. I want that valuable thing, no matter what it is."
Sword Flash shook his head and said, "The valuable thing might not be a good thing. Arthur might not be in a good situation with this trial. There is just no way to know."
"And there is no way to know if the curse will kill us in order to keep the whole thing quiet. This is why I feel fear, not greed."
She shrugged and said, "I think you’re overexaggerating. The curse didn’t become more harsh and restrictive after this development. Instead, part of the curse has been lifted."
"Now we can roam the world and live our lives as if the mission to create a cultivator that fused lightning with wood doesn’t exist. I don’t see how that can be a bad thing."
Sword Flash sighed and said, "Maybe you’re right. Maybe I’m just overthinking things. Maybe they don’t plan to kill us. After all, they gave us this gateway. Thanks to it, we can finally go beyond the second layer of space and participate in the war of worlds."
"As for Arthur being in a good situation and his position being enviable and worth being greedy for, I am still not willing to agree with you on that."
"I just don’t think good things will happen to anyone for free. He might not be in a situation where a powerful cultivator is trying to create a powerful and talented slave, but I believe that at the very least, whatever good thing he will gain from this trial will require some sacrifice of some sort."
She thought about what he said and agreed begrudgingly, "Maybe you’re right. Either way, you have nothing to worry about. My curiosity has been satiated. I promise not to mess around with him."
He didn’t believe her. He said with disdain, "I will continue to watch your movements to make sure that you won’t mess around. I won’t stop until you swear not to mess with him."
She didn’t complain about being spied on, and she didn’t swear the oath that would prevent the spying. Instead, she changed the subject and said, "Tell me more about this gateway."
Sword Flash knew that she was still up to something and wasn’t willing to swear the oath that she wouldn’t try anything, but he chose to ignore it for now in favor of peace.
Besides, he found the topic of the gateway very interesting and more attractive to talk about than the matter of Arthur’s trial.
Besides, he had warned her not to mess around many times, but she didn’t seem ready to listen. If it hadn’t worked by now, then that must be because talking wouldn’t work.
