Mountain Sitting Immortal
Chapter 490: Long And Tedious Journey.
CHAPTER 490: LONG AND TEDIOUS JOURNEY.
Now that he has awakened his divine sense and can probe the inner workings of the sect ID card, he realized that he had overestimated himself when he thought that he could create the ID card.
For one, the sect ID card was more complicated than it seemed. It was made of layers and layers of formations piled on top of each other. He had only been able to determine the workings of one layer when he had used his eyes to examine it.
Secondly, even that single layer that he observed with his eyes appears to be misunderstood now. Thanks to his divine sense, he realized that there were some inaccuracies in what he had seen with his eyes.
Even now, without the use of his divine sense, he can come to the conclusion that he was full of himself when he thought he could replicate the ID card if he only had the proper materials and a more powerful divine sense.
He came to this conclusion without the use of his divine sense because his eyes had become stronger and could see better than what he could see when he was at the second mortal coil.
The bright side is that he was partially right to believe that he could forge the ID card with the proper tools and a divine power sense. He wasn’t exactly wrong about what his capabilities would be if he had those two things, but he was wrong about what exactly the ID card was.
But he wasn’t daunted by the new side of the ID card that he had seen. He was still as confident as ever as he chuckled to himself and said, "I see why you can drive someone crazy, but you’re no match for me."
While he was ogling the ID card, Elder Storm Hawk looked at him strangely. She waited for him to stop, but he didn’t. So she decided to say something about his behavior.
She started with a question. "Are you going insane?"
Her question made him look up at her in surprise and ask in return, "Why would I be going insane? Why would you even ask that?"
She pointed at the ID card in his hands and said, "If you don’t want to go crazy, don’t bother with the mechanism of operation of that thing in your hand. I have seen many people lose their minds and become insane because they wanted to get to the bottom of that thing."
"Those people usually start behaving like you. First, they become obsessed with the ID card. Then they focus on it a little too much."
"The tell-tale sign that they are losing their minds is that they chuckle and giggle when looking at the ID card. You were doing that just now."
He put away the ID card and said, "Thank you for your concern, but I’m not going crazy. I was just admiring the beauty of a fine piece of art."
She clearly didn’t believe him. It showed on her impassive face. But she didn’t argue with him that he wasn’t at the beginning of the long and tedious process of losing his mind.
She said impassively, "Anyway, i see that you are busy admiring beauty. So I will leave you to it."
He had completed the registration process, so he didn’t need her anymore. He also appeared to be busy with something. This made her decide to leave.
But there was still something she wanted to get from him. She remembered it just as she turned to leave.
So she stopped and turned back to him as she asked him impatiently, "Are you still going to bet about how long you can last with your foundation before exploding?"
This question drew his attention. He perked up and replied in the affirmative. "Yes. Where do I sign up?"
To him, the bet was free money. It was also money that he would earn in a decade and a few years. There was no way he wasn’t going to take advantage of it.
Elder Storm Hawk didn’t know what he was thinking. But his answer pleased her. She asked him, "How much do you want to bet?"
He asked in return, "What’s the maximum that I can bet? Also, what are the odds?"
His carefree attitude about how long he would survive made her frown a little and say, "It seems you are not taking this seriously. But I won’t try to convince you otherwise."
Then she went on to tell him the details of the bet. The first detail being that the highest bet was 1 million low-grade energy stones.
There were two kinds of bets. The first kind was to bet on when he would die. The longer the time they bet that he will live, the greater the odds and the higher the reward for winning the bet.
The highest bet of this type is to bet that he will reach the tenth transformation of the third mortal coil. This bet comes with odds of 11.0. So anyone who bets their money on this and wins will get eleven times the amount they bet as their reward.
The other kind of bet is the bet of total confidence. It involves betting that the foundation won’t kill him at all and he will even manage to transcend the third mortal coil.
This bet of total confidence is the one with the highest odds. The odds for this bet are 20.0. This means whoever bets on this will get back twenty times the amount they used to bet.
In general, the longer he survives, the more those who bet on him stand to gain. But only those who get how long he will survive exactly will win anything. The rest will lose all of their money.
For instance, if Storm Hawk is to win, he has to die when he reaches the seventh transformation of the third mortal coil. If he dies at the sixth or eighth transformation, she won’t earn anything.
