Chapter 501: More Champions.
CHAPTER 501: MORE CHAMPIONS.
As he was thinking about the comparison between loose cultivators and beasts at rank 3, two champions came out of the tunnel.
The wings of the two champions buzzed lightly as they took to the air. Their goal was the shining dog in the distance, and the human stopped that shining dog.
Arthur was laid back as he produced four lightning arrows again. It looked like he was doing the same thing he did last time, but this time, there was a twist.
As soon as he released the four arrows, he produced another one and released it. His actions were quick, so the second arrow followed the first batch with a short distance between them.
He paused to watch the result of his move with confidence. He was confident in his actions, but as he watched, something unexpected happened.
The fire ant that he targeted ignited its six wings as usual in order to evade the attacks. Unfortunately, it couldn’t evade all of them because they were too fast and they attacked it from all four directions.
So one arrow struck it in the side. The lightning arrow that struck the fire ant sank into its body and roasted it alive from within.
As for the fifth arrow, which was supposed to be his ace, it struck the fire ant head-on. But by then, it was already useless because the fire ant was already doomed.
Arthur’s mouth opened in shock at the sight. He couldn’t believe it for a short while.
He asked himself, "Where is the fireball?"
But there was no one to answer him. So he tried to figure out why the fire ant hadn’t used its fireball to neutralize the lightning arrow that it couldn’t dodge.
This decision inevitably caused him to become absentminded for a short time. It wasn’t until Roar attacked that he snapped back to the present.
Roar scrunched up his face in concentration as he manipulated his internal energy and willed them to form golden spears of light beside him.
There were six such spears of light. Roar then directed them to fly towards the second fire ant one at a time.
The spears of light took Roar some time to form, but they flew faster than Arthur’s lightning arrows.
The fire ant tried to dodge the first spear of light by igniting its wings for a short burst of speed. It succeeded.
But then came a second spear of light, which had followed closely behind the first one. The fire ant couldn’t ignite its wings in a short amount of time, so it couldn’t dodge again.
In order to resolve the second attack, it used a fireball to block it. This worked.
The second sphere of light was made to explode in the air. But then came the third spear of light.
This time, there was nothing the fire ant could do. The third spear of light struck it head-on.
There was an explosion of light as the spear of light struck the fire ant in the head. The explosion was flashy, but it caused no real harm to the fire ant because of its incredible defense.
Roar didn’t care though. He simply continued to pelt the fire ant with his spears of light one after another.
He didn’t do anything else because there was nothing better he could do in this situation. Arthur had given him two attack spells to learn. Both spells were rank 2 spells, so they were easier for Roar to learn.
The first spell was the Spear of Light. This is a spell that produces single-target attacks that are fast and accurate.
The second spell was the Ring of Light. This is a spell that produces an area of attack that attacks everything around the user.
The Ring of Light is for close-range attacks and uses a lot of energy for one attack. It isn’t appropriate here because the enemy is far away from him. So all that he could use to attack for now were the spears of light.
But no matter how much he hit the fire ant, the best that he could do was disorient and blind it with the explosion of light. All his attacks were more flash than substance.
Despite the barrage of attacks, the fire ant was getting closer to them. It didn’t even bother to block the attacks anymore now that it knew that they were harmless to it.
Roar had to retreat quickly in order to maintain the safe distance between them. Despite his failure to harm the fire ant, no one could deny that Roar was giving it his all.
As Arthur watched Roar pelt the fire ant, he felt that the situation was absurd. It was so absurd that he began to laugh.
He laughed for a while. Then he said, "It turned out that even though I was belittling the fire ants by comparing them to loose cultivators, I was actually still overestimating them. They are definitely worse than loose cultivators."
Roar has shown him just how weak the fire ants were to spells. With this lesson learned, he casually produced a lightning arrow and shot it.
The blue lightning arrow flew through the air towards the last fire ant. This attack was blue, which is clearly different from the previous golden attacks, but the fire ant did nothing to evade or block it.
It could be because it thought that this attack was going to be weak like the previous ones. It could also be because the fire ant had been blinded and disoriented by the previous attacks.
Either way, the fire ant didn’t evade or block the attack. So the lightning arrow struck it head-on and killed it.
Arthur pointed at the falling corpse and said to Roar, "Roar, fetch!"
Roar barked in excitement and rushed forward to grab the two corpses. He managed to grab the one that was closest to them quickly. This was the third fire ant to be killed.
But before he could make it to the second fire ant that Arthur killed, more champions came out of the tunnels to fight them.
