Chapter 623: Hired Guard.
CHAPTER 623: HIRED GUARD.
Another thing that he could tell was that if Delia truly did something to harm Vena, which led to her death, the Dyson family would only punish Delia because of him, not because she did something wrong.
So if he wasn’t powerful enough and if they didn’t have reasons not to offend him, Vena wouldn’t have successfully advanced to the third mortal coil. In fact, Vena might have already been killed before she reached the peak of the second mortal coil.
Despite this, he didn’t turn down their request for a banquet. The banquet was to welcome him and celebrate Vena’s advancement. Since it had already been set up, and Roar wanted to eat, he went along with them.
He met Elder Calcetti at the banquet. This patriarch was still young and shining. Arthur gave him the upgraded golden bow, which made the man shed tears of joy.
He spoke briefly with Augustus. Augustus led the conversation by saying to him, "I am both proud and jealous of your achievements."
He chuckled and said, "I wish I were in your place right now."
Augustus said these things as a joke. But it was a joke that both of them knew that he truly meant. It was also clear that Augustus was more jealous than proud.
It was clear to both of them that Augustus wished with every fibre of his being that he was the one who gained admission into a sect with a good admission grade and managed to advance to the fourth mortal coil.
The implicit meaning of his wish was that he was willing to give up his wife and his children if it meant that he would gain a good admission into a sect.
After all, if he hadn’t been injured during his regional examination and managed to gain a good admission grade, Vena wouldn’t have been able to take advantage of him, and he wouldn’t have needed to stay in the family where he had to marry and have kids.
He was practically saying that he would trade everything he had in a heartbeat for what Arthur had, but Arthur didn’t find any issue with it. Because, to be fair, he too wouldn’t want a wife and kids in exchange for his cultivation.
He met Lady Delia and their daughter Tylia right after. They had very little to talk about, so the conversation was short. They basically just exchanged meaningless pleasantries.
He met more people after that. One of them was his mother.
He spoke to Vena about his plans for the dojo. He wanted her to start the lottery and to also begin holding fighting competitions in which the winners would be rewarded.
Since he wouldn’t be present to select the winner for the lottery, the winner might not be the person with the best fate. So he was using these two approaches that depended on luck and strength to select people to support.
Vena was to implement them quickly and use the popularity that they would create to spread and expand the Red Dojo. This was all they talked about. Their conversation was all about productivity.
Vena still didn’t know why he was so invested in his Red Dojo, but she didn’t question him about it like she always did when he was younger. At this point, he is more than old enough to make his decisions, and she has to be fine with them, no matter how unreasonable they may be.
Besides, even if he was wasting his money on the Red Dojo, it had given her an opportunity to advance to the fourth mortal coil, so she didn’t want to talk him out of it. So she listened attentively to what he said and even memorized every word of his.
After his conversation with her, he ended the banquet by having a private chat with the patriarch of the family. He was taken out of the banquet hall into a small private room for the conversation.
The man hoped that Arthur would come to save the family in their times of need. Of course, he offered payment.
He wasn’t asking Arthur to help them for free. He even gave Arthur a monetary gift now in order to foster goodwill. The favor he got from Arthur was that a powerful golden core cultivator was willing to listen to his offer and consider it.
After seeing his sincerity, Arthur accepted the arrangement. As he did, he remembered the time that he, Storm Hawk, Battle Furnace, and Blood Spider raided the Milton family and were ambushed by a golden core elder of the Sword Way sect.
Because of his arrangement with the Dyson family, if they are being raided by someone, it would be his job to come and save them. He doesn’t have to since he didn’t swear any oath, but if he did, it was possible that the Dyson family could be used as bait to ensnare him.
This made him sigh and think to himself, "I’m truly doing them a huge favor by saying I would help them because just doing this puts me in a dangerous situation."
He ended his conversation with the Patriarch of the Dyson family and decided to return to the family. He went to take Roar, but Roar didn’t want to return.
Roar said, "You go ahead. My path ends here, and I won’t be of assistance to you anymore. This was made clear on the way here. You had to be the one to carry me."
"I don’t want to drag you down. So I think it is a good idea for me to stay with your mother and help you grow your dojo."
"I still don’t know why you spend so much time and resources on the dojo, but since it is useful to you, I will be useful to you again by making it bigger."
"Besides, I want to live a peaceful and laid-back life from now on. I don’t want to be around you, cultivation-obsessed people anymore."
