83: Chapter 83 What Shouldn’t Be Heard?
Su Lu took advantage of the moment she was touring with Jiang Li to fish a pill of ibuprofen out of her bag and swallowed it dry.
She didn’t know if it was the quick onset of the medication or the placebo effect, but she soon felt as if the pain had subsided.
There was a garden behind the Jiang Residence, not planted with any particularly precious flowers, but when they bloomed, they did so profusely, and the sight was quite beautiful.
There were trellises covered with clematis with leaves shaped like sunflowers, blossoming with little red star-shaped flowers.
Vines of rose bushes climbed another trellis, blooming with pink and white double-petal roses.
And there were hydrangeas of various colors, blooming in large clusters, along with some unruly bellflowers, sprouting sporadically, their deep purple flowers bursting forth.
“They were all planted by my mom,” said Jiang Li as he noticed her staring intently, seemingly enchanted by the little garden.
Su Lu, “It’s really beautiful, no wonder you often visit flower shops.”
Hearing this, Jiang Li froze for a moment, his lips forming a shallow curve, but his gaze flickered with an indescribable sadness that vanished as quickly as it had come.
Then he picked up a pair of gardening scissors from nearby and asked nonchalantly, “Like any flowers?
Want me to cut a bunch for you to take back?”
Su Lu waved her hand, “No need…” Before she could finish her sentence, there was a snip of the scissors, “…really.”
A pink-blue hydrangea flower was cut off without mercy, followed by white roses and deep purple bellflowers.
Jiang Li handled the scissors with efficienct snips, not only skillful in his movements, but also good at matching the colors of the flowers—he could have been mistaken for a professional.
Jiang Su’s resigned voice came from behind them, “Mom worked so hard on those, and you cut them without the slightest bit of remorse.”
Without looking up, Jiang Li kept snipping a few more flowers, remaining silent.
But Su Lu felt a bit embarrassed.
Jiang Su, however, didn’t mind Jiang Li’s silence and turned to Su Lu with a friendly tone, “We can prepare for the meal now.”
“Okay, thank you, Mr.
Jiang,” Su Lu thanked him, sensing that the atmosphere between the two brothers was a bit off.
Being observant, she quickly added, “Then I’ll head inside first.”
“Mm,” Jiang Su nodded his head, “President Bo is already in the dining room, just go straight there.
We’ll come shortly.”
Su Lu turned to leave.
She wasn’t walking slowly, but Jiang Li’s words came quickly.
Despite her hurrying away, she still overheard his firm voice carried by the night wind, though not loud, “You don’t need to convince me, I want Ying Xi.”
Su Lu almost stumbled, steadying herself before picking up the pace and nearly running into the first-floor dining room.
Bo Jingshen was sitting at the table, with dishes already spread out before him.
He hadn’t started eating, just holding a Jianzhan teacup, quietly drinking tea.
He looked up when he heard footsteps and saw Su Lu, “Why the rush?
Are you that hungry?”
Su Lu, still shaken, shook her head.
Noticing the near-panic fear on Su Lu’s face, Bo Jingshen figured it out, given that Jiang Su had just gone to call them for dinner.
Bo Jingshen raised an eyebrow and teased, “You have a look as if you’ve seen a ghost.
What, heard something you shouldn’t have?”
Su Lu, as if caught with her hand in the cookie jar, vigorously shook her head.
Seeing her reaction, Bo Jingshen couldn’t help but almost laugh, his lips curling up slightly, “Don’t worry, even if you heard something, nobody’s going to silence you.
Sit down.”
He nodded toward the seat beside him.
Su Lu sat down, exhaling a long breath.
Bo Jingshen stood up.
Previously content with sipping his tea without a touch to his chopsticks, he didn’t want Su Lu to feel uncomfortable, nor did he feel like waiting for Jiang Su and Jiang Li to arrive.
He picked up a soup ladle and served Su Lu a bowl of steaming hot soup.
“Drink more of the hot stuff, I’ve had the nanny add quite a bit of ginger,” Bo Jingshen said in a flat voice.
No sooner had he said this than Su Lu knew he must have realized.
Realized she wasn’t feeling carsick but was having stomach discomfort.
“Thank you.” Su Lu kept her head down, sipping the soup seriously, looking as though she was extremely devout.
“Let’s go after you finish eating.
I’ll take you back early,” Bo Jingshen said.
Su Lu felt that she was okay after taking the medicine.
But thinking back to Jiang Li’s words she had overheard earlier by accident, she indeed felt it would be better to leave early.
If she hadn’t thought of it, it would have been fine, but once she did, Jiang Li’s words seemed to linger in her mind, unable to be shaken off.
And then she thought about how, hmm…
Jiang Li and Bo Jingshen had been good friends since their time abroad, and back then Bo Jingshen wasn’t yet President Bo, but Jiang Li was already the Second Young Master Jiang.
So…
Su Lu couldn’t help but glance at Bo Jingshen’s face, after all…
regardless of anything else, his face was indeed unfairly good-looking, appealing across the board to men and women, young and old.
Bo Jingshen looked back at her, as if he could guess what Su Lu was thinking without her having to say a word.
“Don’t think about those unnecessary things.
Second Young Master Jiang isn’t that idle, and I’m not that free,” Bo Jingshen said with a frown.
Su Lu coughed lightly.
She hadn’t said anything…
Soon, Jiang Su and Jiang Li, the two brothers, came back from the backyard.
Jiang Li was holding a beautifully arranged bouquet of flowers, simply wrapped in newspaper, but it still looked pretty.
He walked in and handed them to Su Lu, “Here.”
“Thank you!” Su Lu took them with both hands, looking at the soup bowl in front of her, she said apologetically, “I’m sorry, I didn’t wait for you.”
“It’s fine.” Jiang Su smiled, “We don’t have so many rules at home, no need to be so formal.”
The nanny quickly served the rice.
The culinary skills of the Jiang Family’s nanny were quite exceptional, and the dishes tasted very good.
They all ate together and chatted about various topics occasionally.
They also talked about the e-sports project she and Jiang Li were going to work on.
Su Lu was a bit anxious at heart, but to her surprise, Jiang Su didn’t mention Ying Xi at all.
It was as if he was discussing the prospects of the project from a very fair perspective.
Then the topic shifted in another direction.
Jiang Su looked at Su Lu, “I heard Su Zhe is back.”
“Yes, that’s right, he has been back for a while,” Su Lu nodded.
Jiang Su smiled and continued, “I heard he’s dealing with what’s his name…”
Jiang Su seemed unable to recall the name for a moment, until Jiang Li reminded him from the side, “Chen Yaxi.”
“Ah yes, Chen Yaxi, that’s the name.” Jiang Su turned his head and asked Jiang Li, “She’s one of our signed artists, isn’t she?”
“A small model,” Jiang Li nodded.
“Ah.” Su Lu opened her mouth, but with Bo Jingshen present, and in his eyes, Chen Yaxi bore the mark of Gu Xin, so she absolutely couldn’t say a word in defense of Chen Yaxi; otherwise, she didn’t know if Bo Jingshen would get moody.
So Su Lu opened her mouth, only managing to say, “That’s really…
giving you trouble.
My brother, he’s not so good-tempered.”
