Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 130: That Brat
CHAPTER 130: CHAPTER 130: THAT BRAT
Calvin was calling.
"I finally reached you, Ms. Bently. Did something happen?"
"I ran into Lone Wolf, but I’m okay now."
"Lone Wolf?" Calvin’s tone shifted. "Ms. Bently, I need to tell you something immediately. We’re at Brittin Memorial Garden. Rai and Kane were taken away. We tracked them here..."
Calvin was usually calm, but this time, his nervousness was clear, even in his voice.
He had never made such a critical mistake in his career.
Rai had been taken right under his nose, and he hadn’t noticed in time.
"What? Rai and Kane were taken away? Who took them? Do you have any leads?"
A chill ran down Chantelle’s spine.
Her heart began to race as she felt so panicked.
"We don’t know yet, but the abductor is likely a professional. They managed to get into the secret room, and our traps didn’t stop them. By the time I figured out something was wrong, they had already taken Rai. As for Kane, he must’ve realized what happened and went with them."
Calvin let out a helpless sigh.
Kane had always been brave and clever, but this time, he had put himself in danger.
The only reason they could track the kids was because of Kane’s phone signal.
This thought filled Calvin with mixed emotions.
"That brat!" Chantelle was frantic, barely able to hold the phone firmly.
The boy was only five. How could he?
It would be easy if the abductors were ordinary people. But encountering Lone Wolf’s men could be deadly.
"I’ll head to Brittin Memorial Garden right away. Keep searching and stay in touch. The people who took Rai and Kane must be with Lone Wolf. Get everyone on high alert. If needed, have Thirteen handle them. Don’t hesitate."
Chantelle was worried, wishing she could be at Brittin Memorial Garden to find the kids herself.
But now wasn’t the time to break down. She took a deep breath, calmed herself, and gave Calvin clear instructions.
"Sure, Ms. Bently."
Chantelle ended the call and opened the tracking app on her phone to locate Kane.
As she scanned through the phone, she realized that this wasn’t her phone.
She noticed that it had been modified for better control and use.
After a moment, Chantelle found Kane’s signal.
She stared at the flickering red dot on the map, feeling a small sense of relief.
"Ashton, this phone is..."
"This is the latest HX-5 series from the Wilsons’ research and development team. It’s the most advanced mobile technology out there..."
"I see. It’s ahead of its time. I didn’t know the Wilsons were involved in so many fields."
Chantelle was taken aback. She had kept track of all the major companies’ electronic gadgets, but she never knew the Wilsons were part of the tech world.
Daniel really kept everything a secret.
"The Wilsons have always had an R&D department, but our products aren’t available to the public. This phone was made specifically for Mr. Wilson. By the way, Mrs. Wilson, the scarlet red model you’re holding is a matching set with Mr. Wilson’s black version."
Ashton’s expression made it clear he was hoping for something between Daniel and Chantelle.
"Um... Ashton, don’t root for us. It’s not going to happen between him and me."
"Mrs. Wilson, the truth is... Mr. Wilson..."
Ashton tried to say something nice about his boss, but Chantelle interrupted him.
"You must have heard that Rai’s been kidnapped. We need to focus and get to Brittin Memorial Garden as fast as we can. Got it?"
"Sure, Mrs. Wilson. Those people are seeking death by kidnapping Rai. Don’t worry, I’m already speeding up. We should be there in ten minutes."
"Good."
Chantelle felt a comfortable drive despite the burst of speed. She realized the nosy man had his good qualities. At least his skills were useful in a moment like this.
Ten minutes later, Chantelle and Ashton reached Brittin Memorial Garden.
Using the GPS, Chantelle told Ashton to stop at the closest spot.
There was thick brush ahead, so the car couldn’t go any farther. Holding her phone, Chantelle quickly stepped out.
She felt warmer now because the car heater had been on. Outside, she knew Kane was somewhere deeper in the woods.
The forest was about three hundred feet below the church on the hill. Green plants covered the flat ground of the hill and because of the strong sunlight, the villagers planted fruit trees on it.
Going up and down often created a winding path along the road.
Chantelle looked around and saw a trail leading uphill. She didn’t think twice and started climbing.
The path was narrow, only wide enough for one person. It stretched for miles, twisting along the side of the hill. It looked a bit scary.
Chantelle moved carefully, sticking her entire body near the hill’s edge. Her knees felt shaky, but she wouldn’t admit it.
Still, the thought of her children possibly in danger gave her the strength to keep going.
"Ashton, make sure everyone stays alert."
"Yes, Mrs. Wilson."
Ashton answered without looking away from Chantelle and was on high alert in case something happened.
Mr. Wilson had just found her again.
Chantelle started sweating just from walking a few steps.
Luckily, they made it past the steep path. The ground was still rough, but at least it was flatter now.
Chantelle kept checking Kane’s signal. It had been ten minutes since he last moved.
They were still a mile away from where they needed to be.
Earlier in the car, Chantelle studied the map of Brittin Memorial Garden. In about a mile, the land should become more level.
Did the kidnappers stop there?
Chantelle looked around, lost in thought. The flat ground made the extra footprints easy to find. She sent Kane’s live location to Ashton so they could split up and look for the kids.
"Mrs. Wilson, I should go with you. I can’t let you go alone."
"I’m fine. Take your men and go around the back. I’ll be careful." By the time they reached the flat ground, Chantelle had warmed up. She felt ready to protect herself.
"But—"
"We’re short on time, so no more buts. Let’s go."
Chantelle cut him off before he could say anything.
Without waiting for Ashton, Chantelle chose a path and rushed forward.
Ashton was worried, but saving the boys came first. He had to move quickly and take the other route with his team. He sped up to reach the target.
Chantelle ran along the path, and she felt more nervous as time ran by.
