CHAPTER 325: CHAPTER 325: I’M AN ACTRESS

The bodyguard’s jaw dropped. My eyes weren’t tricked, right? The person we thought was the enemy... is only a young boy? Why is he already a seasoned fighter?

He remembered asking Ashton about that guy before, and Ashton had said no such person existed in their group.

Weird, Mr. Wilson just said that kid is one of us... Don’t tell me he’s working under Ms. Chantelle?

The bodyguard finally understood why Daniel had warned them not to go against Thirteen. Hurting someone close to Chantelle would’ve been far worse than disobeying Daniel’s order.

Daniel let Thirteen take the driver because he suspected the man had been hired by one of Chantelle’s enemies in Carcosa. Thirteen would know how to get the truth out of him.

"Mr. Daniel, what should we do with these guys?" The bodyguards had captured the drivers who blocked the limousine. They were badly injured too.

"Keep them alive. We’ll get what we need out of them," Daniel said, glancing at them like they were nothing more than pests. Then he turned and headed back to the ambulance.

Philip had already given Chantelle an injection, but he wasn’t sure if it would help.

The bodyguards took the injured drivers to the hospital not to treat them, but to keep them breathing long enough to talk.

"How is she?" Daniel asked as he sat down beside Chantelle’s stretcher.

They were all in protective suits since they had been exposed to the antidote Daniel stole from Trenton’s underground lab.

"Her injuries are mostly superficial, and her condition is stable. With the medicine, she should wake up by tomorrow morning," Philip said.

Russell added, "Mr. Daniel, the antidote you took from the lab isn’t the final version, just a component. Based on our analysis, it can help treat Ms. Chantelle, but we’re still far from creating the complete antidote."

He had just received the report from the hospital.

Alexander nodded as he heard that. "We’ll do our best to ease her symptoms, but that might only buy us a year or two."

Daniel’s frown deepened and his eyes turned cold. He had sensed something was off the moment Lex blew up the lab.

It was clear now, he had walked straight into Trenton’s trap.

"As far as I know Trenton, there’s no way you’d get into his lab alone and come out alive," Russell said. He knew Daniel had likely seen through it too.

Just then, Daniel’s phone buzzed. It was a message from Jude with a link to a news article.

The article reported that a pharmaceutical research lab on Kamai Island, Carcosa had accidentally exposed locals to a virus, causing a sharp rise in hepatitis cases. The Carcosan Department of Health had planned to launch an investigation, but the lab had been blown up the day before along with all the evidence.

According to the Carcosan police, the explosion was traced back to two men from Kastovia. One of them worked at the lab. He’d been caught using drugs on the job and selling lab products under the table. In revenge, he blew up the entire facility.

The most shocking part? The police released a mugshot of Lex.

People were furious. Online, some even said the virus could spark a global crisis.

Lex was staying at the Wilson residence. If the public found out the Wilson family was hiding him, Daniel would instantly become public enemy number one and the Wilson Group Of Companies could fall apart overnight.

"Leave Chantie to us. You need to handle the crisis at your company," Philip said.

They all knew about Lex. In fact, before Daniel left home, Lex had warned him not to push himself too hard.

Of course, it was too late to take anything back now.

Daniel didn’t want Lex to be arrested, but he also couldn’t let the Wilson Group Of Companies fall.

"How’s Ashton?" he asked. No one could see his face behind the gas mask, but his anger was obvious.

"Ashton and Ms. Powell are okay. They’ll be back on their feet after some rest," Russell answered.

Daniel gave a slight nod. But instead of heading to the company like Philip expected, he returned to the Wilson residence after dropping the others off at Silver Crest Global District.

"How is Mommy?" the three children asked as they rushed over to Daniel the moment he walked in.

He gently patted their heads. "Mommy’s at Silver Crest Global District. She’s okay."

"I want to see Mommy!" Kane said, already wearing his backpack. But the butler stopped him from heading out.

"I want to see her too," Rai added.

Daniel paused for a moment, then told a few of his bodyguards to take the kids to Silver Crest Global District.

Kane dashed away the moment his father gave them permission. Rai, however, paused and gave Daniel a worried look before following after him.

Daniel noticed Stephanie still standing there.

"Aren’t you going?" he asked.

She didn’t answer. Instead, she took his hand and gently led him inside.

"Take care of Daddy!" Kane shouted from the car window.

Stephanie kept walking without looking back.

In the living room, Stephanie sat her father down on the sofa and said coldly, "Take off your suit!"

Daniel gave a warm smile, clearly proud of his daughter’s firm tone.

As he started removing the protective suit, he teased, "Aren’t you worried Mommy will be sad if you don’t visit her?"

"She’s not as petty as you," Stephanie shot back with a sharp look.

Ouch!

Daniel quickly pulled off the suit, revealing a white shirt underneath, soaked in blood.

Daniel quickly put the suit back on, not wanting the blood to scare his daughter. "It’s dinner time, Stephanie. Aren’t you going to eat?"

"No. I’ve seen worse injuries anyway." Stephanie called the butler, who came in with a doctor right behind him.

Daniel felt sad for his daughter. She was only five, yet she spoke like someone who had seen too much.

What exactly had she gone through during those five years they were apart?

He didn’t want to imagine it. He looked at her seriously and his eyes were full of deep sorrow.

Stephanie could tell Daniel was feeling guilty from overthinking again. In the past, she would’ve just let him suffer with those thoughts, hoping he’d eventually understand he needed to treat Chantelle better.

She couldn’t bring herself to do that now.

"I’m an actress. I’ve seen scenes bloodier than this," Stephanie said casually.

Of course, Chantelle has never let Stephanie or Kane witness real blood or violence.
