Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 423: Stay Out Of It
CHAPTER 423: CHAPTER 423: STAY OUT OF IT
Daniel secretly clenched his fists, and he quickly caught up with her, grabbing her by the wrist. In a low and rough voice, he said, "Do you realize you almost lost your life back there?"
"That’s why I thanked you for saving me," Chantelle replied as she stared at him. "If you’re expecting something in return, just say it. As long as it’s within my ability, I’ll do it."
His grip on her wrist tightened until it almost felt like her bone would snap. Even then, Chantelle didn’t flinch or show any pain.
Daniel looked into her eyes, trying to read her thoughts. But her eyes were clear, giving nothing away.
With a defeated sigh, he finally let go of her wrist. "Leave this to me. Stay out of it."
"You can’t expect me to do nothing when someone keeps trying to harm my children," Chantelle said, staring straight at Daniel without backing down.
It was reckless of her to act on her own today, but she couldn’t just give up on finding the person behind the attacks on her children.
"I’ll handle it. You’re not in good condition right now. You should stay in the lab instead of running around," Daniel said. He had rushed to the scene, only to find that Chantelle’s life was in danger. If he had arrived a little later, he couldn’t imagine what would’ve happened. The thought alone made his blood run cold.
He couldn’t believe she had already forgotten how dangerous the situation was.
Daniel was furious that she took matters into her own hands, that she didn’t trust him, and that she didn’t care how he felt.
Chantelle looked into Daniel’s eyes and slowly asked, "Will you really find out the truth, Mr. Wilson?"
Daniel frowned. "Are you doubting me?"
"Nothing. I’ll wait for your answer since you said you’d handle it." Chantelle knew Daniel would stop her from investigating any further.
Besides, she could already feel her body weakening. Even her thoughts weren’t as sharp as before. She needed rest.
Daniel could tell she was planning something bigger. However, he decided to end the conversation there, and Chantelle didn’t argue either.
"Chantelle!"
"Chantie!"
Suddenly, Oscar and Rowan came out of the laboratory, looking excited.
Rowan reached out to hug her, but Daniel blocked him before he could. One look at Daniel’s grim expression was enough to make Rowan stop. He awkwardly lowered his arms.
They were the last people Chantelle expected to see there. Feeling the tension in the air, she brushed past Daniel and walked up to Rowan.
"Why are you here?" she asked.
Daniel shot Philip a furious look. Philip simply shrugged and pointed at Alexander.
"I heard from Alexander that you haven’t been doing well. We were worried, so we came to see you," Rowan quickly explained.
Chantelle was touched. Though she got along well with the Nelsen boys, they were just friends. She never expected them to travel such a long way just to visit her.
"Dr. Nelsen, I hope you have a reasonable explanation for doing this!" Daniel’s voice carried a sharp tone, and everyone could feel the huge tension in the air.
He had only allowed Alexander to come with Philip because of Alexander’s medical expertise. Plus, Daniel trusted that Alexander wouldn’t do anything to put Chantelle in danger.
Still, that didn’t mean Alexander could bring just anyone there.
Didn’t he understand how important the drug was to Chantelle and me? The more people knew about it, the more lives were at risk. Daniel thought Alexander was fully aware of that.
Alexander did understand. But he had taken a sample of Chantelle’s hair for a DNA test and compared it with his own blood. The results showed they were related by blood.
The test confirmed what the family had suspected, and Alexander immediately told his brothers. The Nelsen boys wanted to come immediately.
Considering the drug’s confidentiality, Alexander didn’t agree at first.
Still, Rowan had told Alexander something yesterday that made him connect it to Daniel’s recent behavior. Worried about Chantelle’s safety, Alexander finally agreed to let his brothers come and support her.
"The Nelsens have the most advanced medical equipment and medicine to help you recover," Alexander explained.
Daniel glanced at Philip, and Philip nodded. The Nelsen family was known for their work in pharmaceuticals and healthcare, and their products were highly effective. Philip wouldn’t have believed it if he hadn’t seen it himself.
Alexander had kept everything a secret until now.
"Even so, you had no right to bring outsiders here without permission," Daniel said, glaring at him.
Alexander gave a naughty smile at Daniel. "I already asked Mr. Jones, and he approved it. As far as I know, this laboratory belongs to him."
Everyone turned to Russell. With a straight face, he gave a slight nod. "The two gentlemen are Ms. Bently’s friends. They can supply us with medical equipment and medicine. They also have the same blood type as Ms. Bently, so I decided to invite them here."
"Blood type? Are we doing a blood transfusion?" Chantelle asked.
She had been told there would be surgery. Couldn’t the problem be treated with medicine alone?
Russell explained, "Dr. Collins and I made a last-minute decision. We’ll need to operate and remove the cyst while you’re under medication."
Chantelle frowned. It seemed things were more serious than she had thought.
Daniel felt a strong heaviness in his chest as he looked at Chantelle worriedly. She noticed his strange look and gave him a small, reassuring smile. "I’ll leave my life in your hands."
Daniel shot the Nelsen brothers a cold look, clearly unhappy that Rowan and Oscar were there. Chantelle quickly grabbed him aside and whispered, "They’re already here. What’s the point of driving them out? Just let them stay."
"Don’t you think the Nelsen brothers are getting a little too close to you?" Daniel said, unable to hide his irritation. He couldn’t stand anyone with the last name Nelsen.
Chantelle also found Alexander’s explanation a bit hard to believe. For a family as prominent as the Nelsens in Carcosa, it didn’t make sense that they would come all this way just to donate blood.
Still, she didn’t think they meant her any harm.
"Just let them stay and see what they’re planning. It’ll be fine since Russell’s here," Chantelle said, trying to persuade him.
