Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 462: The Other Heir
CHAPTER 462: CHAPTER 462: THE OTHER HEIR
Just then, an image appeared on the large screen on stage. It showed two naked bodies intertwined. Camille was clearly the woman, and even though her face was not visible, everyone recognized the torn gown on the floor.
The man’s face wasn’t shown because his back was facing the camera, so no one could tell who he was.
However, Chantelle could tell that the man was Joseph. She recognized the injury on his back, the same one she had treated.
Daniel felt her body suddenly stiffen in his arms. He was about to cover her eyes, but before he could, Chantelle had already pulled away and rushed into the house.
His expression darkened immediately.
Chantelle received a call from Joseph that morning. "Chantie! How could you leave me here alone? You’re so cruel," he complained.
"You sound perfectly fine. I don’t see anything wrong," she replied with a shrug.
She was about to hang up when Joseph quickly added, "By the way, how have you been lately?"
Hearing it made her think of the lucky charm again, and her annoyance flared up. "Thanks to you, I’m still alive," she said. She was starting to wonder if he had given her the charm on purpose to make her life harder.
But Joseph explained, "It belongs to you. I was just returning it to its owner. It can bring either good luck or bad luck, depending on how you use it."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Chantelle was confused. She had never seen the lucky charm before. How could it belong to her?
"Visit me and I will tell you everything," Joseph said before hanging up.
Chantelle was annoyed, but she desperately wanted to know the truth, so she drove straight to where he was staying.
When she arrived, she saw Joseph sitting comfortably on the couch, very much alive. She glared at him. "Because of you, I almost got killed."
"Sorry, my fault. I forgot to warn you about the side effects," Joseph said with a smirk. "But I trust you. You’re not someone who dies easily."
She raised an eyebrow and stared at him seriously. He was dressed as if he were about to attend an event. "Are you going to the Wilson Group of Companies’ engagement party?"
He looked her up and down and let out a whistle. "You look beautiful. What are you planning to do, showing up at your ex-husband’s engagement party like this? If you want to cause trouble, I wouldn’t mind going with you."
"Thanks, but no thanks," Chantelle rolled her eyes. "Now tell me about the lucky charm." She took the charm away from her neck.
Joseph let out a deep breath and took off his expensive suit jacket. When he turned around, she saw that his white shirt was soaked in blood and his back was still bleeding. She winced at the sight, imagining how painful it must be.
"What happened to you? I thought you already saw a doctor," she asked.
"I don’t like anyone else touching me," he said. He handed her an ointment and removed his bloody shirt before lying down on the couch. "Chantie, can you help me apply it?"
Chantelle scowled and tossed the ointment onto the couch. "That’s not a reason to avoid treatment. Move away. I don’t want to get my hands dirty."
However, Joseph ignored her and continued lying on the couch. After a few minutes, Chantelle finally gave in and applied the ointment to his back.
"Thank you. I knew you cared about me," Joseph said, looking relieved once the ointment was applied. He seemed full of energy again.
"Are you planning to make a scene at the engagement party?" Chantelle raised an eyebrow. It seemed like he was confident he could ruin Daniel’s event.
Joseph only shrugged and didn’t answer her question. He said, "No matter what happens later, don’t get involved. Just stay behind Rowan."
He clearly wasn’t planning to explain anything more about the lucky charm, so Chantelle stopped asking. She glared at him before leaving the apartment.
Afterward, when she saw the scandal between Joseph and Camille on the screen, her first reaction was that Joseph had fallen into Daniel’s trap again.
She did not understand what Joseph was planning to do to Daniel at first, but now she realized Daniel had set this up, and Joseph had walked right into it.
"Take me to the room where Camille is," Chantelle said to a staff member. Since Daniel had just defended her, the worker immediately nodded and led her upstairs.
However, the staff member didn’t actually know where anything was. She had been in the kitchen all day and didn’t know what was happening outside. In the end, Chantelle found the room by examining the sunlight’s direction on the screen and used it to figure out Joseph’s location.
Just as she was about to enter the room, someone blocked her way. It was Steve. "Who are you? What are you doing here?"
Steve was here because Camille had called him, wanting him to see her and Daniel together so Daniel would not be able to back out of the wedding.
Chantelle turned and saw the old man. She had looked at the guest list earlier, so she could easily guess who he was. Alexander had also told her that Steve was not in good health, and any emotional shock would be bad for him.
She quickly walked in front of the door and said politely, "The party is in the foyer. Let me escort you there."
Steve looked at her and was stunned for a moment. His lips trembled as if he wanted to speak, and tears started to fill his eyes.
Chantelle glanced down at herself in confusion. She was dressed normally. Why was Steve looking at her like that? Had Camille shown him her photo beforehand, so he was reacting with hatred toward her?
However, he did not look disgusted. It seemed more like she reminded him of someone he once knew. Chantelle secretly sent a message to Rowan, telling him the room number and asking him to come immediately.
"Liz!" Steve took a step toward her, trying to get closer to Chantelle. She instinctively stepped back. Before she could respond, Steve’s face suddenly went pale, and he clutched his chest.
"Old Mr. Nelsen, are you alright? Do you have your medicine with you?" Chantelle asked, panicked. She didn’t know why, but she felt a strange sense of familiarity with the Nelsen family, from the brothers to the old man in front of her.
