Mr. CEO's Ex-Wife: A Cunning Comeback
Chapter 466: I Want To Take You As My Adopted Granddaughter
CHAPTER 466: CHAPTER 466: I WANT TO TAKE YOU AS MY ADOPTED GRANDDAUGHTER
Rowan had already told him everything about Chantelle and Daniel’s past. In his mind, Daniel had abandoned Chantelle for another woman and had nearly gotten her killed. A man like him wasn’t worthy of being forgiven.
The Nelsen family’s princess could have anyone she wanted, so why return to him? And to make it worse, this same man was supposed to be engaged to his other granddaughter.
Was he really planning to pursue both women at the same time?
Daniel could clearly see the hatred in Old Mr. Nelsen’s eyes. He quickly explained before Chantelle could say anything. "The one who got engaged to Camille today was my cousin, Joseph Wilson. I’ve only ever had one wife, and that is Chantelle."
"That is not the agreement I made with Wesley Wilson back then," Old Mr. Nelsen said sharply.
"Back then, you and my grandfather agreed that your granddaughter would be engaged to the heir of the Wilson Group. Joseph is one of the heirs now, so the agreement still stands," Daniel replied.
Old Mr. Nelsen looked at him with clear displeasure. "But you know Camille likes you," he said.
"I’ve rejected her many times. If you believe that a man your granddaughter likes should abandon his wife and children just to marry her, then all I can say is... the Nelsen family has no right to force me," Daniel said frankly with a hint of provocation in his voice.
Rowan observed his grandfather carefully. He was afraid Daniel might agitate him and raise his blood pressure. But instead of getting upset, his grandfather laughed loudly as he looked at Chantelle and Daniel. Then his expression shifted. "You never divorced her?"
He remembered that Camille had told him Daniel was forced into marriage because a woman got pregnant with his child six years ago. That woman later cheated on Daniel and left him and the child for another man, so Daniel filed for divorce. That was also why Old Mr. Nelsen had agreed to let Camille marry Daniel. She had made Daniel sound like a somewhat decent and responsible man. But now, after hearing Daniel’s own side, he realized Camille had lied to him as well.
"Never," Daniel said.
"Do you really love her? You don’t have any feelings for Camille or any other woman?" Old Mr. Nelsen asked.
"She’s the only woman I love," Daniel said, as if it were simply the truth. He turned to look at Chantelle.
Chantelle had been sneaking glances at him and flinched when they looked at each other. In reality, she was deeply moved by how sincere he had been every time he said it.
"If that was the case, then why did you trick Camille into getting engaged to Joseph Wilson?" Old Mr. Nelsen asked again with his tone heavier this time.
Camille was still the granddaughter he had raised. Even if her identity was now questionable, the relationship he had with her could not be dismissed so easily.
"Ms. Nelsen harmed my wife more than once. I was only returning what she deserved. If I had not considered the friendship between you and my grandfather, Ms. Nelsen might not have even had the chance to marry into the Wilson family," Daniel replied. His voice was cold and distant. He was subtly warning Old Mr. Nelsen that if Camille wanted to stay in Easthan, she needed to know her place.
Rowan glanced at Chantelle, urging her with his eyes to soothe Daniel before he made his grandfather collapse.
Chantelle realized what he was implying. She quickly walked forward and took Daniel’s hand. The moment he felt her touch, the stern look on his face softened.
Old Mr. Nelsen noticed Daniel’s mood shift and remained silent as he observed them.
"Mr. Nelsen, were you looking for me?" Chantelle asked, breaking the silence.
Old Mr. Nelsen looked at her and gave a smile that was nearly childlike. "Yes, yes. I get along very well with the children," he said.
Kane, who had been standing in the corner listening the whole time, started overthinking Old Mr. Nelsen’s words. As his little mind worked, he suddenly jumped up and placed his small hands on the side of Old Mr. Nelsen’s bed. He looked at his father with excitement. "Daddy! Can I and Mr. Old Nelsen... become sworn brothers?" he asked sincerely.
Chantelle couldn’t help but let out a small laugh, and Daniel’s lips curved into a smile as well.
The three Nelsen brothers were also trying not to laugh. Oscar reached out and ruffled Kane’s hair, genuinely wondering what was going on in the little boy’s mind.
Old Mr. Nelsen laughed loudly, too, amused. His own great-grandson wanted to become his sworn brother.
"Huh? Isn’t that what you meant when you said you got along very well with me?" Kane asked, confused. "I see it in movies all the time. When two friends get along, they become sworn brothers!" His face was completely serious.
Steph had no patience for him. "How old are you, Kane? And how old is Old Mr. Nelsen? You can’t be sworn brothers with an old man!"
"Why not? Friendship isn’t measured by age!" Kane argued.
Steph rolled her eyes at him and stayed silent. She would rather pretend she was not related to him at all.
"Thank you for your kindness, Mr. Nelsen, and for giving the children so much love. Kane can be a little naughty sometimes," Chantelle said with a faint smile. Her cramps were getting worse, and she couldn’t wait to leave the hospital and go home to rest.
"Wait, what I meant was... I want to take you as my adopted granddaughter. What do you think?" Old Mr. Nelsen said to Chantelle directly.
Chantelle’s eyes widened in surprise, while Kane stomped his little feet in protest. "You said you got along with me, so why are you asking my mother to be your adopted granddaughter?!" he complained.
Old Mr. Nelsen didn’t know how to answer Kane, so he could only glance at Rowan for help. Rowan was not happy with him at that moment. They had originally agreed to tell Chantelle the paternity results and let her know they were truly related by blood. But Rowan felt that because Daniel Wilson was here, Old Mr. Nelsen came up with this "adoption" plan instead.
Oscar, however, didn’t feel the same way. He thought Old Mr. Nelsen must have been thinking about Camille when he made this decision. No matter how flawed Camille was, she had always been a good granddaughter to him in her own way, and his love for her was real.
