Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 106, are there any injuries?
CHAPTER 106: 106, ARE THERE ANY INJURIES?
At the police station, the statement had already been taken, but Sophie Foster was hugging her studded backpack and refusing to leave the office of the kindly police officer.
"Let’s go, Sophie,"
Mia Foster tugged at Sophie’s sleeve, speaking in a good-natured manner, "It’s just a matter of paying for some medical expenses, don’t dwell on it."
"I won’t!" Sophie twisted her body away stubbornly, "That scumbag insulted me first, why should I compensate him for medical expenses? I haven’t even demanded compensation for my emotional distress yet!"
"Sophie, let’s go, your sister will pay the compensation for you." Titus Zane, who had been silent all this time, also spoke up. She had left in such a hurry that she forgot to bring her cellphone and wallet, but she had Nathan Moore’s Black Card with her.
"It’s really not about the money, it’s about principle!" Sophie clung to her backpack, stubbornly refusing to leave her chair.
Half an hour had passed since they finished giving the statement the night before, but Sophie refused to go, causing the officer on night duty quite a headache.
It wasn’t a major case, and just as Sophie had said, she was merely acting in self-defense. Besides, the man’s injuries were not that serious—just a minor concussion.
So the officer was also extremely troubled.
Having no other choice, Mia took out her phone and called Felix Shaw for help.
Half an hour later, four tall men appeared at the police station, almost scaring the night duty officer to wet himself.
All of them were influential figures, the kind even the chief of police would be polite to.
Seeing the four men enter, the police officer quickly rose from behind his desk. Before he could say anything, the men immediately positioned themselves protectively next to their own women.
Sophie had been sitting in the chair, refusing to leave, with Titus and Mia standing to her left and right, trying to persuade her with kind words.
Noticing the large hand on her shoulder, Titus instinctively shifted aside, attempting to pull away from Nathan’s arm.
The latter cast a cold glance her way and tightened his grip, causing Titus to stumble and involuntarily lean against his chest.
When Felix’s arm came to rest on Mia’s shoulder, she subconsciously looked down at the hand on her shoulder.
Perhaps she hadn’t paid much attention before, but now she realized just how attractive Felix’s hands were—slender fingers and pale skin.
She wasn’t a fragile woman, but feeling the protective embrace of the man she was fond of made her heart warm, and she subconsciously moved a little closer to Felix.
Evander Lancaster had nothing to do with this, so he simply perched himself on the desk, took out a pack of cigarettes, and lit one for himself.
"Uncle Croft, they bullied me." Finding backup, Sophie reached out to hug Nicholas Croft around the waist, showing a look of aggrieved innocence, burying her face into his chest.
"There, there, don’t be upset. Tell Uncle Croft, how did they bully you?" Nicholas wrapped his arms around Sophie, his other hand gently stroking her head, his tone as gentle as if comforting a child.
"Some jerk harassed me... and they even want me to pay for his medical bills..." Before the police officer could speak up, Sophie briefly recounted what had happened. Nicholas’s gentle expression vanished and his cool gaze narrowed slightly as he kept stroking Sophie’s head, "Don’t worry, Uncle Croft will take care of it for you."
Meanwhile, Nathan turned his head to Titus and asked, "Are you hurt?"
The question took Titus by surprise, and she stared at him, forgotten how to respond.
Seeing Titus not speaking, Nathan stepped forward, took her by the arm, and checked her over from front to back, only pulling her back into his side after making sure she wasn’t injured.
He spoke coolly, "Let’s go home. Big brother will get a lawyer to handle this."
Women who cause trouble naturally need their men to handle it.
"Big brother, we’re heading out." Nathan greeted Nicholas, then left with Titus in tow.
As they reached the door of the office, Sophie suddenly looked back and called out, "Goddess sister, don’t forget what I taught you!"
Titus paused in her steps, looked back to see Sophie winking at her, and suddenly remembered her own words about running away from home. She nodded lightly, "Okay, I remember."
Leaving the police station, Nathan couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity, "What did Sophie say to you?"
He suspected that whatever it was, it related to himself and was unlikely to be anything pleasant.
It was evident from Sophie’s attitude towards him.
"Nothing."
Titus responded indifferently, then suddenly picked up her pace. Seeing his hand fall into the air, Nathan frowned slightly and quickly caught up with her.
