Mr. Fairchild's Rose: She is Wild and Proud
Chapter 69: Anson Lane’s Phone Call
CHAPTER 69: CHAPTER 69: ANSON LANE’S PHONE CALL
The good atmosphere had completely vanished by now.
Henry Hughes swallowed the words he was about to say.
"Let’s go back." Maeve Lane wiped her mouth with a napkin and stood up, "I just want to go back to the dorm and take a nap today."
"Alright."
...
Maeve Lane returned to the dorm, had just set the alarm, and was about to rest for a while when her phone rang.
[Father]
She lowered her eyes and tapped to answer—
"Maeve Lane, come home today."
The voice on the other end was stern and authoritative, "I have something important to discuss with you."
Before Maeve could respond, the call was hung up without a trace of hesitation.
She closed her eyes again, suddenly overwhelmed by a sense of fatigue.
The Lane Family wasn’t particularly famous in Aurelia’s elite circles, and you would only hear of the Fairchild Family once you truly entered that echelon.
Unlike the outspoken nouveau riche of Aurelia, the Fairchilds were especially low-key, but no one in their right mind would dare challenge their authority.
The most high-profile thing the Fairchilds had done in recent years was arranging a marriage with the Lane Family.
Thanks to the Fairchilds’ covert support, Anson Lane was able to establish himself in Aurelia despite lacking any business acumen.
This villa on the outskirts of Aurelia is one of the Lane Family’s properties.
Aurelia University isn’t very far from the Lane Family, but Maeve had only returned once since the school term began.
That time, Rosalyn Jennings and Anson Lane had a big argument over her.
Her mother was so upset she ended up in the hospital.
Being summoned back this time, there was likely nothing good to expect.
But to see if her mom was doing well, Maeve finally decided to return.
She lifted the brim of her hat to look out the window, revealing a pair of perfectly shaped fox-like eyes, with faint red veins around the whites.
"Miss." A servant approached, opening the car door for Maeve, "You’re finally back, Madam has been missing you terribly."
Her gaze was indifferent, a smile lingered at her lips, yet it sent a chill deep into others’ hearts, "Mm."
"Sister, why did you come back?" Sylvia Lane walked out from the villa entrance, looking panicked upon seeing Maeve step out of the car, "Get out quickly, Dad’s still fuming!"
Maeve breezed past her nonchalantly, pushing open the door, "I’ve already come, why leave."
"Sylvia, come over here! Don’t learn any bad behavior from her!" Anson Lane was sitting in the first-floor living room, with a few photos scattered on the coffee table, his voice as if he had swallowed an explosive, "Look at you, what good deeds have you been up to at school!"
He slapped the table, seething with anger, "Hanging out closely with a bunch of guys, flirting and being intimate, and you’ve had seven or eight boyfriends already since you started at Aurelia University! Do you have any shame?!"
Sylvia was on the verge of tears, she stood in front of Maeve only to be dragged by Anson Lane to stand beside him, "I told you to stay away from your sister, look at her, where does she still have the demeanor of a lady? It’s embarrassing to talk about! How did I, Anson Lane, end up with such a daughter? You’ve brought disgrace upon us!"
"Every single one of them was a proper relationship, breakup—if we’re talking about disgrace," Maeve spoke in a slow, unhurried tone, lifting her eyes slightly, a hint of sarcasm, "is your affair any less disgraceful?"
"You’re just a kid, what do you know about affairs!" Anson Lane jumped in anger, his face turning pale with rage, "Shut up!"
What responded to him was a disdainful snort.
Holding back his temper, he sternly warned, "Don’t blame me for not reminding you, you’re going to marry into the Fairchild Family in the future, and the last incident has already left them with a bad impression of you, so behave like a proper lady at school, understand?!"
