CHAPTER 81: CHAPTER 81: SUDDENLY, HE SAID HE WAS LEAVING

After chatting with the old man for a while, Ethan Grant came over and carried Serena Sullivan out directly.

He seemed to be addicted to carrying her. Even though the path at The Sullivan Residence was perfectly accessible for a wheelchair, he chose to carry her.

Serena, catching a whiff of the tobacco scent on him, spoke softly.

"Why are you here?"

"Grandfather’s sick. I came to see him." Ethan answered simply. The servant had called to say Serena needed a car back to The Sullivan Residence, and he was worried she might run into something there, so he came over.

Luckily, he did.

He carried Serena into the car. Just as another car stopped nearby, he got in from the other side, and Zoe Quinn got out of the car.

She had gotten a call from Claire Sullivan saying Ethan was at The Sullivan Residence, and she rushed back immediately.

"Brother Ethan!"

She approached joyfully, and when she saw Serena next to Ethan in the car, she pounded on the car window even harder.

After only a couple of knocks, the driver stepped on the gas, and the car sped off.

Zoe lost her balance and fell to the ground.

"Brother Ethan!"

She instinctively let a tear fall, but realizing no one was around, the tear quickly vanished, leaving only hatred for Serena in her eyes.

Serena, sooner or later, she would destroy her!

The car stopped under "Willow Yarrow," Ethan escorted Serena to the elevator, then stepped back out himself.

Serena looked up at him. He hesitated and said, "I have to go on a business trip for a few days."

"How many days!"

The news came too suddenly, and Serena was stunned.

"I don’t know yet."

A project in Country A required his personal negotiation. Lately, he had pushed off social engagements and trips, delegating to others, allowing him more time to stay in Solaria to watch over her.

The deputy sent to negotiate for the project in Country A encountered some issues. Originally, he was headed straight for the airport but had turned around after receiving the servant’s call to return to the Sullivan Family.

Yvette Sterling had to reschedule his flight; it was the last flight of the day.

If he didn’t go, it would heavily impact The Grant Corporation.

"I’ve arranged for someone to protect you."

"That’s not necessary!"

The sudden news of his departure made Serena uncomfortable. She quickly pressed the elevator button, unwilling to talk more with Ethan.

"Serena!"

Watching the elevator doors slowly close, seeing Serena’s cold eyes, Ethan’s expression darkened.

Was he still in her heart?

The elevator doors quickly closed, and as Serena saw her reflection, her heart tore open, filled with waves of pain, so intense it felt more unbearable than death.

"Sir!"

Seeing Ethan standing dazedly at the elevator door, Yvette Sterling, waiting by the car, checked the time and had to speak up.

Ethan remained there, reluctant to leave.

"Sir, you can send a text to madam if you have something to say."

Sometimes, words are hard to speak face to face but easier to type out.

Prompted by Yvette, Ethan finally stepped into the car and left.

At her doorstep, a ringing phone pulled Serena back to reality. Seeing a string of numbers on the display, she knew it was Ethan’s current number.

"Wait for me to come back."

Those four short words warmed Serena’s heart, easing the discomfort within her.

With Ethan away, Serena’s life continued as usual.

After the incident with Sean Lockwood and Shannon Shaw’s theft, everyone at The Grant Corporation knew she was protected by Ethan, rightfully The Grant Madam. No one dared to bully her behind her back anymore. Zoe wanted to harass her, but with Shannon driven out of The Grant Corporation and unable to find anyone to use, coupled with maintaining her Sullivan Family heiress’s elegant and delicate facade, it was impossible to do anything to Serena within The Grant Corporation.

All she could do was act out sisterly affection in front of everyone, hide her true self well, and wait for the day she could deliver a blow to crush Serena.
