Mr. Hawthorne, Your Wife Wants a Divorce Again
Chapter 116: I Jumped Out of the Car Immediately!
CHAPTER 116: CHAPTER 116: I JUMPED OUT OF THE CAR IMMEDIATELY!
"I’ll explain it to you later." Juliana Jacobs wasn’t in the mood to explain as she handed the herbs to Ann Vaughn, "Annie, the herbs you asked for are here. Now, have a look..."
Ann Vaughn had a habit of checking the herbs. She opened the package and glanced at it, only to realize something was amiss.
Besides the herbs she needed, there was an extra herb called arrowroot in the package.
It wasn’t particularly toxic, yet it happened to clash with one of the herbs she had there. If Sharon Jacobs drank this package of herbs, she would die within half a day.
By then, even if she tried to explain, no one would believe Ann Vaughn.
Ann Vaughn’s delicate face turned cold, her bright eyes looked calmly at the man who had brought the herbs, and then she deliberately furrowed her brow.
"Annie, is there something wrong with the herbs?" Juliana Jacobs was skilled at reading people, and she immediately noticed that her expression seemed a bit off.
The ex-husband standing beside them didn’t change his expression, but his eyes nervously glanced at Ann Vaughn.
Ann Vaughn laughed lightly, "There’s nothing wrong with the herbs; I just brought some jade cream for Sharon. It’s perfect for her scars from all those bruises. Girls look better without scars."
The ex-husband visibly relaxed, his expression lightening a bit.
While Juliana Jacobs’ ex-husband wasn’t paying attention, Ann Vaughn removed the arrowroot from the herb package and handed it to the housekeeper in the villa to prepare the medicine. She then made an excuse about leaving the jade cream in the car and asked Juliana Jacobs to accompany her to retrieve it.
Once outside the villa, Ann Vaughn finally spoke, "Miss Giles, your daughter has been poisoned with the golden silk contagion. This kind of contagion can only grow if it’s planted while still in the larval stage."
"Also, I just found this extra herb called arrowroot in the package, which clashes with one of the herbs I prescribed. I suggest you personally oversee the preparation of the medicine in the future."
Although meddling isn’t always good, Ann Vaughn almost hated Juliana Jacobs’ ex-husband for abandoning her when she was young. Because of him, Juliana Jacobs hadn’t had a new work for a long time.
Today, he seemed to have reconciled with Juliana Jacobs, but Ann Vaughn couldn’t have anticipated that even a beast wouldn’t harm its own cubs; this man would harm his own daughter!
But if Juliana Jacobs didn’t believe her, there was nothing Ann Vaughn could do.
Juliana Jacobs picked up on Ann Vaughn’s implication and, combined with Ann Vaughn’s strange behavior earlier, a terrifying thought suddenly appeared in her mind.
"Annie, thank you so much. I’ll consider your advice carefully." Juliana Jacobs took a deep breath and sincerely thanked Ann Vaughn, handing her a brocade box.
"This is a token of my appreciation. If you ever have trouble in the future, come to me for help, and I’ll do whatever I can!"
Ann Vaughn didn’t refuse and accepted the brocade box she offered, explaining that she hadn’t brought any jade cream—it was just a ruse to get her outside.
Yet Juliana Jacobs was still intrigued by the mention of jade cream—she had completely come to trust Ann Vaughn’s medical skills.
Since Ann Vaughn mentioned it, it must be something extraordinary.
Juliana Jacobs wanted to personally see off Ann Vaughn, but Sharon Jacobs happened to wake up at that moment, so Ann Vaughn considerately declined her offer.
Just as she left Juliana Jacobs’ villa, she saw a car waiting outside with a driver standing by the car door, saying, "Miss Vaughn, please get in the car. I’ll take you back."
Ann Vaughn recognized the driver from the estate. Her gaze turned solemn for a moment, and she got into the back seat.
On the road.
Ann Vaughn watched the dazzling nightlife scenes speeding past outside the car window, her fingers on her lap slightly curled.
She hadn’t personally experienced such prosperity and hustle for quite a long time, nor had she indulged herself at the food street for ages.
It was as if the most commonplace yet indispensable part of her former life had slowly drifted away.
And she wanted to hold onto it.
Ann Vaughn unconsciously tightened her red lips, took her mobile phone, and glanced at the time. It was only seven in the evening, right when the night market was the most bustling.
She suddenly felt an urge to ask the driver to stop.
"Better not." Ann Vaughn’s hand on the door hesitant, she murmured softly.
If she got out of the car now, she might implicate Juliana Jacobs, who had fought for her to have a day of freedom to breathe.
She didn’t mind for herself, but she didn’t want to drag others down.
It was at this time that her phone vibrated in her hand—it was a call from Susie.
"Susie, what’s up?"
"Annie! I’m at the hotpot place we used to go; you have to come over now!" Susie’s somewhat tipsy voice came through from the phone, occasionally accompanied by a hiccup.
"You’ve been drinking?" Ann Vaughn frowned slightly, disapproving, "Why are you drinking alone at night? Wait for me to come over; don’t run around, got it?"
Whether Susie heard her or not was unclear because the phone accidentally disconnected.
Ann Vaughn’s heart was anxious, so she immediately asked the driver to turn back, not take the highway, and take her to the vicinity of Imperial Capital No. 1 High School.
The driver didn’t change his demeanor, "Sorry, Miss Vaughn, my duty is to safely return you to the estate. Anything else is outside my responsibilities."
"My friend has an issue, I’m begging you to take me there. I promise I won’t trouble you long." Ann Vaughn pleaded with hands clasped together.
The driver remained unmoved, so Ann Vaughn glanced at the road condition ahead, got up, and fiddled with the car lock until she suddenly pulled open the door beside her!
"If you don’t stop, I’ll jump off the car!" Ann Vaughn had one hand on the car door, and her long leg was already sticking out!
The driver’s face immediately changed, wondering how he’d ever explain things if she got injured; he quickly pulled the car over to the side.
As soon as the car stopped, Ann Vaughn bent down and darted out, her small body nimbly disappearing into the crowd.
A few minutes later, Ann Vaughn walked into the hotpot restaurant carrying her bag, where the rich aroma of spices filled her senses.
She instantly spotted Susie sitting in the corner.
"How much did you drink?" Ann Vaughn went over to take away the beer in Susie’s hand and reached out to poke her head.
Susie was still hugging a bottle of wine, lifting her face to smile foolishly at Ann Vaughn. Once she saw it was her, her expression turned sorrowful.
Before Ann Vaughn could understand what was going on, Susie mumbled, "Annie, last night I overheard Ethan talking on the phone with someone, and he mentioned that those thugs from three years ago are all dead."
Dead?!
Ann Vaughn blinked her eyes in shock, "How is that possible?"
Sutton Jennings clearly told her that those people were sent to the patrol bureau—how could they be sentenced to death this quickly...
"I was happy thinking those bastards finally got what they deserved," Susie sniffled, looking bleak, "but now they’re dead, how can Cynthia clean off the mud they splashed on you?"
