CHAPTER 40: CHAPTER 40: I’M PREGNANT...

"Whatever it is, wait until we’re out of here alive to talk about it." Cyrus Hawthorne’s long arm tightened around Ann Vaughn, his narrow eyes locked on the elevator buttons, his tone calm and steady, undisturbed.

As if no matter what happens, even if death is right in front of him, nothing could shake him.

"I..." Ann Vaughn closed her eyes, her cheek pressed against his slightly warm broad chest, thinking that this might be the first and last time they were this intimately close together.

Just as she was about to utter, "I’m pregnant," the elevator that had descended to the last floor suddenly stopped!

After a brief moment, the lights in the elevator flickered back on, with a "ding" sound, and the elevator doors began to open slowly.

Ann Vaughn’s heart was still pounding rapidly from the thought of revealing her pregnancy, but then she realized the elevator was back to normal, and she swallowed back the words on her lips.

"It’s over now." Cyrus Hawthorne’s brows relaxed slightly as he stood up, pulling the dazed Ann Vaughn from the floor, leading her out of the elevator.

"By the way, what were you about to say?"

After leaving the elevator, Cyrus Hawthorne seemed to recall that Ann Vaughn had been about to tell him something, so he turned slightly, squinting as he asked her.

The life-and-death crisis had just been averted when another invisible bomb arrived...

Ann Vaughn steadied her mind and suddenly had a clever idea: "I just wanted to say, that bottle of medicine isn’t poison at all. If you don’t believe me, I can take it right in front of you."

"No need." Cyrus Hawthorne withdrew his cold gaze from her, a slight mocking curve forming on his thin lips: "With your timid nature, it’s impossible for you to dare to poison Grandpa. However, in the future, without my permission, you’re not allowed to enter the hospital to get close to Grandpa."

With that, Cyrus Hawthorne flicked his wrist and tossed the vial of medicine into the nearby trash can.

"You..." Ann Vaughn’s expression changed slightly at the sight and she felt a bit dissatisfied.

She didn’t dwell too much on whether he truly believed her or was mocking her timidity, but as for not being allowed to enter the hospital...

She wouldn’t listen to him about that.

"Cian!" Just as Ann Vaughn wanted to say more, she saw Cynthia running over from the front, naturally hooking her arm through Cyrus Hawthorne’s, "I just heard the elevator had a malfunction, and I didn’t see you in the ward. I was so worried."

"It’s okay now." Cyrus Hawthorne’s stern brows softened a bit, "You aren’t well, you shouldn’t stay up late, why are you back again?"

Ann Vaughn stood not far behind them, and as she listened to Cyrus Hawthorne’s typically indifferent but inexplicably gentle words, a sour feeling spread across her chest.

At this point, Cynthia seemed to notice Ann Vaughn’s presence for the first time, a trace of scrutiny and nervousness passing through her eyes, and she said softly, "Oh, Sister is here too. Perfect, I can go home with you."

"Hmm, that’s fine." Cyrus Hawthorne lifted his wrist and glanced at the time on his watch, nodding slightly, "I’ll have someone come to pick you both up in a moment."

"You don’t have to worry about me. With Sister here, how could anything happen to me, right, Sis?" Cynthia walked over to Ann Vaughn, grabbing her hand without giving her a chance, her smile appeared utterly harmless.

Ann Vaughn tried to pull her hand back but Cynthia gripped it even tighter, causing her to frown slightly.

"It better be so." Cyrus Hawthorne cast a sidelong glance at Ann Vaughn, a warning glint in his eyes, then turned and left.

Once Cyrus Hawthorne’s figure disappeared, Ann Vaughn saw the smile on Cynthia’s face vanish instantly.

She had just wanted to shake off Cynthia’s grip when Cynthia unexpectedly, with an angry force, slammed into Ann Vaughn!
