Mr. Sterling, Mrs. Sterling is Multifaceted!
Chapter 104: Just Like Poison, Impossible to Quit for Life
CHAPTER 104: CHAPTER 104: JUST LIKE POISON, IMPOSSIBLE TO QUIT FOR LIFE
After that, she almost became a Divine Farmer-like existence; whenever unfamiliar plants and animals were found, she would try them first.
Many deadly poisons for her would only cause some mild symptoms like vomiting.
The more Ethan Sterling listened, the darker his face became. But Seraphina Redgrave seemed to find nothing wrong, she was merely recounting her past experiences.
"The Redgrave Family poisoned you?" His tone was cold.
"Yes."
The doses were small, only enough to weaken her immune system, making her prone to colds, or causing gastrointestinal issues.
Seraphina opened her mouth, earnestly explaining, "I never intended to commit suicide."
She had simply overestimated her own resistance to poison.
"If I hadn’t arrived in time, you would have died at Sovereign College."
Ethan Sterling wasted no extra words, directly tossing the medical report to Seraphina.
Seraphina flipped open the report, which detailed her physical condition. The conclusion was clear: if Ethan had been a moment later, she would have been done for. Lena Lynch’s poison was indeed too potent; if it were someone else, they would have been long gone.
"Thank you, Young Master Sterling, I’ll find a way to repay you."
Ethan saved her once more.
"Repay?"
Ethan slowly stood up, looking at Seraphina on the bed, gradually approaching her, each step was excruciatingly slow. Finally, he leaned over the hospital bed above Seraphina: "Is your idea of repayment planning an escape while I was abroad, ready to leave at any time?"
Ethan actually knew.
The VIP ward was very large, but as long as Ethan was around, Seraphina felt the room’s oxygen was somewhat insufficient.
Seraphina leaned against the bed, maintaining her previous posture without moving, even calmer. Her clear eyes watched Ethan, as she spoke each word deliberately: "Young Master Sterling, I don’t understand what you mean."
At least without tangible evidence, she couldn’t expose any flaws.
After all, she left no clues, on the surface merely retaliating against the Redgrave Family. Ethan’s claim that she wanted to escape was merely a guess.
"Really?"
Ethan looked at Seraphina, his eyes seemingly smiling, yet chillingly cold.
Like a beast ready to hunt at any moment.
His breath mingled with Seraphina’s.
They were almost about to kiss.
Seraphina blinked: "If I really wanted to leave, why would I take poison at Sovereign College?"
"That wasn’t part of your plan." Ethan paused, "You thought the poison wouldn’t be fatal, at most just a hospital visit."
Seraphina’s drug resistance was indeed strong; the doctors said she couldn’t even take a step after ingesting such a potent poison, yet she endured for so long.
Moreover, judging by what she spoke earlier, she seemed very confident in her resistance, which indirectly confirmed she believed the poison couldn’t disrupt her plans.
Seraphina didn’t show a hint of fear and kept looking into Ethan’s eyes: "Young Master Sterling, I said I’d stay by your side, and I’ll certainly keep my promise."
Anyway, lying doesn’t get you struck by lightning, and going back on one’s word later wouldn’t be an issue either.
"How do you explain meeting Granny Coleman and Nanny Lynch for shopping?"
Ethan spoke again, a deeper chill in his eyes.
"I avenged myself, wanted to buy a couple of new clothes to celebrate, so I thought to ask them to take me."
Seraphina didn’t bat an eyelid, speaking as if it were the truth.
"The truth?"
Ethan lifted Seraphina’s chin, the black cat on his wrist vividly lifelike: "Seraphina, you know what happens if you lie to me, right?"
Breaking your legs, nowhere to escape.
"I’ve explained everything I could. If Young Master Sterling doesn’t believe me, do as you will with me."
Seraphina spoke genuinely earnest.
"Okay."
Ethan chuckled twice, but there was no trace of amusement in his eyes, and slowly said, "Everyone in the hospital now is mine, there are dozens just outside your door. Given your current state, you’d be nothing but a caged bird."
Seraphina maintained her usual expressionless demeanor, though inside felt somewhat agitated.
She couldn’t understand why; although Ethan had saved her twice now, she found him perpetually annoying.
"Alright, rest. I’ll head to the company, and will visit the hospital when I can."
Ethan pinched Seraphina’s chin, kissing her colorless lips, then raised his head to speak seriously: "The sight of them washing your stomach, really ghastly. Don’t do such things anymore, lest I lose interest in kissing you."
Although Ethan expressed disdain verbally, his body was very honest. He leaned in, deepening the kiss, conquering her mouth; though it tasted of the medicine forcibly administered by the doctors, it couldn’t mask her innate sweetness.
Just like a poison, hard to quit for life.
Only after a long while did Ethan pull away from Seraphina’s tender lips after he was satisfied, gently smoothing her hair as if petting a cat, then grabbed his suit jacket from the chair and left the room.
As Seraphina watched Ethan’s retreating back, she was almost speechless, thinking her current complexion wasn’t much better than during her stomach wash, yet he still went ahead?
After Ethan left, Seraphina had no need to continue pretending, she collapsed on the hospital bed, clutching her stomach tightly.
Her delicate eyebrows knitted together.
Already weakened by poisoning, she felt exhausted dealing with Ethan’s aggressive demeanor.
She let down the hospital bed, trying to lie back, but just before it lowered enough for her to lie flat, someone else came to see her.
"Miss!"
Two maids called out to Seraphina, eyes red, rushing into the room.
Seraphina, feeling numb, thought to herself that this must be a single ward.
Only after Ethan left could they come in.
Seraphina readjusted the bed, sat up and saw that two bodyguards had come in along with them, standing not far away with a formal air.
Their eyes stayed on the two maids, evidently they weren’t there to watch her.
Ethan was indeed formidable, imprisoning her was one thing, but even the likes of Nanny Lynch and Granny Coleman wouldn’t escape his watch.
"Miss, are you alright?" Nanny Lynch looked at Seraphina’s pallid lips and haggard face, and tears instantly welled up: "How did you get so thin?"
It was just a bit of fatigue, saying she had lost weight was baseless.
"Miss, so kind, yet those rogues from the Redgrave Family torment you like this, they’re all vile creatures!"
Nanny Lynch cried in torrents, one would suspect Seraphina had died if they didn’t know better.
"Am I not still alive?" Seraphina spoke, looking at their plainly worried faces, she couldn’t help but ask: "Didn’t you rest last night?"
"We were afraid something might happen to you," Granny Coleman spoke up.
"Young Master Sterling wouldn’t let us see you, saying he was afraid it would disturb your treatment, we’ve been worried sick," Nanny Lynch added.
"Ethan... wouldn’t let?"
If this continues, would Ethan really bind Nanny Lynch and Granny Coleman to force her to stay?
"Yes, Young Master Sterling personally took care of you day and night, not letting us in."
Nanny Lynch spoke again.
"Day and night?"
Seraphina was dumbfounded.
She originally thought Ethan just happened to run into her waking up, and took the chance to confront her.
"Yes," Granny Coleman said matter-of-factly, "Young Master seemed to have been forewarned, coming back even before his business was done. Fortunately, he returned in time, otherwise, Miss might have been..."
