CHAPTER 111: CHAPTER 111: ETHAN STERLING GETS JEALOUS

"What exactly do you want to do?"

Ethan Sterling looked at Seraphina Redgrave, wondering if she really intended to pick up the rice balls from the floor.

Seraphina squatted on the ground, seemingly trying to collect all the scattered rice balls.

What is she trying to do!

Ethan’s expression was quite unpleasant as he pulled Seraphina up from the floor, gripping her wrist with his fingers, and impatiently said, "It’s just a servant. If you’re upset, I can help you take revenge, alright?"

In Ethan’s view, he wouldn’t let the person who killed the maid off the hook, but Seraphina being sad enough to eat the rice balls off the ground was somewhat absurd.

After hearing this, Seraphina paused, suddenly turned her head to look at Ethan, her gaze like that of a fierce little beast.

Just a servant?

You are an abandoned child.

Those who come to the restricted area are people with no ties, even if they die, no one would care. Why live so arduously?

Why?

Why was she the unimportant child from birth, why did she constantly have to hear words like these?

Why?

Ethan looked at Seraphina, shocked by the hatred in her eyes, initially thinking her current actions were laughable, but now he couldn’t help but soften his tone, "I’ll help you kill the murderer."

If she considered Nanny Lynch important and couldn’t accept Nanny Lynch’s death, he would help her avenge.

"No need." Seraphina’s eyes were full of hatred, "If you dare to make a move, I’ll kill you too!"

Crazy woman...

Ethan looked at Seraphina, somewhat unable to comprehend, "You’d kill me over a servant?"

Seraphina withdrew her gaze, shook off Ethan’s hand, and bent down to pick up again.

"Enough!"

Ethan pulled her back to where she stood, gritting his teeth as he spoke, "Nathan Ayers."

Nathan Ayers, who hadn’t dared to enter at the restaurant door, immediately stepped in, waiting for instructions.

"Find a way to preserve these rice balls, so she can see them for the rest of her life," Ethan said coldly.

"Understood, Young Master Sterling."

Nathan immediately began carrying out his orders.

Seeing this, Seraphina stopped struggling, standing motionlessly in place.

Ethan understood that this was Seraphina agreeing to his method of handling things.

But Ethan was unhappy again.

He released Seraphina’s wrist, looking at her and gritting his teeth, "Seraphina Redgrave, I’ve saved you twice, yet your attitude towards me isn’t as good as it is towards Nanny Lynch?"

He thought if he died now, Seraphina would go mad, ecstatically mad.

Seraphina remained silent, sitting back in her wheelchair.

It’s different. Ethan saved her twice, but they were merely acts of help within his capabilities, like the charity of someone in power, yet he made all sorts of demands on her that didn’t align with her values, and she didn’t like him.

But Nanny Lynch was genuinely good to her, treating her like her own daughter. It was the first time she felt the selfless love of an elder.

Before this, only Lena Lynch had shown her feigned affection, with its own price tag.

Ethan sat on the chair beside Seraphina, leaning back and looking at her, his expression displeased.

"How did Lena Lynch know when I’d be discharged?"

Seraphina looked at Ethan and spoke.

The Redgrave Family had never been able to track her movements. How did they so accurately find out when and where she’d be appearing?

After hearing this, Nathan Ayers spoke apologetically, "It was inadvertently mentioned when our people kidnapped the Redgrave mother and daughter. I’ve already taken care of it."

"What about arranging Lin Mama’s affairs?"

Seraphina asked again.

"Nanny Lynch was an old hand with The Sterling Family, childless and with no children, but she has a distant relative, I’ll notify him to take Nanny Lynch back,"

Nathan Ayers was indeed a capable assistant to Ethan, his work was thorough.

"No need, I’ll handle it,"

Seraphina looked at Nathan, speaking slowly.

"Are you not tired managing these things now that you’re better?" Ethan disapproved, glaring at her, "I don’t allow it."

"You can’t control me,"

Seraphina spoke coldly, her aura not losing out to Ethan in the least.

"Seraphina!"

Ethan was about to explode.

"If you think I’m challenging your authority, then deal with me. As long as you let me live for one day, I’ll handle this for that day until it’s done," Seraphina didn’t back down at all.

Ethan glared at Seraphina, his gaze growing darker, his hand gradually clenching into a fist.

Nathan stood at a distance, inching away step by step, trying to move away from the battlefield.

Miss Redgrave seemed genuinely not to value her life anymore, daring to challenge Young Master Sterling like this. This time, Young Master might actually act.

Sure enough, the next second Ethan slammed the table and stood up.

Nathan turned his face away, unwilling to watch further.

"Do whatever you want."

With that said, Ethan turned and left.

Nathan was dumbfounded, turning his head to see Ethan walk away without looking back.

What?

Wasn’t he going to teach Miss Redgrave a lesson? How did it end with just slamming a table and then leaving?

When did Young Master Sterling ever endure such an affront?

That night, Seraphina lay in bed, listening to the man’s steady breathing beside her.

Seraphina stared wide-eyed, expressionless at the ceiling, suddenly feeling nauseous, accompanied by waves of pain.

She immediately rolled out of bed, darting to the bathroom, leaning over the sink and retching.

Nothing came out.

Seraphina stayed by the sink, collected herself for a long while, and then turned to leave the bathroom, exiting the bedroom and pushing the wheelchair to the terrace at the end of the hallway.

Seated in the wheelchair, she gazed into the darkness outside the window.

She thought she’d long grown accustomed to death during those three years in the restricted zone, that she wouldn’t feel sorrow over a life’s departure anymore.

But it turns out she would.

Her heart ached.

It really hurt, she felt like she was back in the restricted zone, submerged in the sea, seawater flooding into her body, leaving her unable to breathe.

Seraphina sat there, reaching out to cover her heart with her palm; this way, it wouldn’t hurt.

Behind her, low footsteps sounded.

In the next moment, she was surrounded warmly, Ethan stood by her side, expression displeased, "Why did you get up?"

He couldn’t hold her in his dream, so he awoke.

Seraphina sat there, unmoving, her gaze on the roses in the garden, her voice emotionless, "I hurt."

Ethan looked at Seraphina, truly not understanding why she was this upset just because a maid had died.

"Can I smoke?"

Seraphina spoke.

She truly felt in anguish.

When Ethan was troubled, he’d smoke for relief, she figured maybe she could too.

Upon hearing this, Ethan’s eyes darkened slightly; he let go of her and walked out.

A moment later, he returned, dragging a chair along.

Seraphina saw the pack of cigarettes and lighter in Ethan’s hand.

She reached out to take them, but Ethan pulled back his hand, taking a cigarette and placing it between his lips, "I’ll light it for you."

He flicked open the metal lighter’s cover with one hand; the flame flared, illuminating his deep-set brows and eyes.

He brought the lighter close, lighting the cigarette at his lips, from which a wisp of smoke rose gently.
