Chapter 140: The Disgusting Elite Society
CHAPTER 140: CHAPTER 140: THE DISGUSTING ELITE SOCIETY
Seraphina Redgrave listened without surprise.
"Wow! It’s actually her!"
"Which school was she from before? Why haven’t I heard of her? Could she have come from abroad?"
The classroom was filled with the chatter of classmates.
Selena Quinn sat in her place, her smile completely vanished, her expression utterly frozen.
The sycophants next to her didn’t dare say a word, sneaking glances at Selena Quinn.
A few seconds later, Selena Quinn stood up, smiling as she looked at Seraphina Redgrave sitting at the back: "Sylvia, I told you, you could do it."
Seraphina Redgrave didn’t want to pay her any mind, but she did have a question she wanted to ask, so she spoke up: "Can I join the Elite Society now?"
"Yes, indeed." Selena Quinn smiled warmly and generously, "I’ll take you there after class."
Seraphina Redgrave nodded in agreement.
Selena Quinn also nodded slightly, then sat down.
Teacher Young intended to ignore this little episode and continue the lesson, but the students began clapping spontaneously, and the applause went on endlessly.
The students who had initially followed Selena Quinn’s lead were now looking at Seraphina Redgrave with admiration: "Sylvia Shaw, you’re incredible!"
"The pride of The Law School!"
The applause was thunderous.
Selena Quinn sat in the front row, her smile gracious and gentle.
But Teacher Young’s face was as dark as coal.
Meanwhile, Seraphina Redgrave continued expressionlessly reading her book.
After class, Selena Quinn upheld her promise and invited Seraphina Redgrave to the Elite Society.
Seraphina Redgrave agreed to join the Elite Society to achieve her goal of rebuilding the Restricted Zone more quickly, but upon arriving, she realized it was even more formal than she’d anticipated.
The Elite Society had its own dedicated teaching building, with a design comparable to The College of Arts, and a small fountain at the entrance.
Seraphina Redgrave glanced around the building and got a rough impression, and Selena Quinn seemed to really like her, introducing her nonstop to the Elite Society along the way: "Actually, the Elite Society doesn’t have many members, including me there are twelve in total. Most of them are students who focus on science majors, and it’s been a long time since there was a newcomer, especially one from The Law School. It’s really great that you could join us."
Once inside the teaching building, a lobby greeted them with walls covered in photos and bios of past Elite Society members.
"These are photos of past Elite Society members; they are our role models and goals."
She pointed to the doors on either side: "The rooms next to the lobby are the conference room and the lounge. The former is where we hold our discussions, and the latter is where we relax. If you ever feel tired, you can rest in the lounge; the facilities there are world-class."
"Okay."
Seraphina Redgrave agreed.
Selena Quinn led Seraphina Redgrave upstairs and opened a door with a president plaque on it, revealing a room full of a scholarly atmosphere.
The lilies on the desk were in full bloom.
"Sylvia, sit for a moment, I’ll handle your membership application right now."
Selena Quinn poured her a glass of water.
"Thank you."
Seraphina Redgrave sat at Selena Quinn’s desk, placing the glass on the table without drinking.
Selena Quinn glanced at the glass but didn’t blame her; instead, she retrieved a document from the office drawer: "Here’s the membership application form; please fill it out."
Seraphina Redgrave took the form and began filling it out while Selena Quinn continued her introduction: "Once you finish the form, I’ll apply for the certificate representing the Elite Society for you. This certificate is valid for life, and whatever direction you pursue in the future, having this certificate will give you priority."
"Oh." Seraphina Redgrave responded casually, continuing to fill out the form.
"We heard there’s a newcomer in the Elite Society, so we thought we’d come take a look."
A clean, male voice suddenly sounded from the door.
Without turning around, she saw some student-like people standing outside, all exceptionally good-looking, both boys and girls.
The boy standing in front was very tall, dressed in an academy-style shirt and trousers, with one hand in his pocket, looking cold and aloof.
"Caleb Crawford." Selena Quinn stood up and began introducing each person to Seraphina Redgrave: "Sylvia, this is the vice president of our Elite Society, Caleb Crawford, from the Physics College."
The boy’s gaze shifted to Selena Quinn, and his demeanor instantly softened: "Selena, how come you didn’t inform us about such a significant event as welcoming a newcomer?"
"Didn’t you already find out?"
Selena Quinn smiled gently.
A girl leaning against the doorframe looked at Seraphina Redgrave, a mocking smile on her face: "The newcomer is really pretty, is she from The College of Arts?"
She was insinuating that she was just a pretty face with no brains.
Seraphina Redgrave’s chair was the kind that swivels; she didn’t stand up, just turned the chair facing the door, her gaze icy: "I don’t like to make relationships too strained, but if someone without insight insists on causing trouble, I’ll make them pay."
So stop huddling together showing off your superiority.
The girl’s expression turned ugly instantly, looking at Seraphina Redgrave like she was ready to swallow her whole.
"Let’s take a look at the newcomer’s application form." Caleb Crawford picked up Seraphina Redgrave’s nearly completed application form, eyes filled with disdain: "Why didn’t you write where you previously studied? Did you attend school abroad? Which school? What recognized awards have you received?"
Seraphina Redgrave remained expressionless, her gaze cold: "Joining the Elite Society just requires an SSS in the entrance exam, right?"
The implication was to mind his own business.
Caleb Crawford’s face also turned ugly, continuing to look at her information: "Why leave the ’Parents’ section blank?"
"No parents."
As those words left her mouth, everyone’s expressions changed, even Selena Quinn’s perfect smile faltered as Caleb Crawford sneered: "Transfer student, hasn’t anyone told you? Joining our Elite Society also has other conditions: members must provide three generations of direct lineage information, bank statements, and a two hundred thousand admission fee."
Hearing this, Seraphina Redgrave’s face turned unpleasant as well, looking towards Selena Quinn: "Explain?"
"It’s our internal rule in the Elite Society." Selena Quinn couldn’t maintain her composure, "Although it’s not publicly known, every one of us must do it."
Seraphina Redgrave sat in her chair, staring at the scorn in the eyes of the men and women before her, sneering: "I see, all this exam screening is just a hoax, a shell of hope for the general public. In truth, the Elite Society is just a flock of the upper echelon’s kids, gilding themselves under the guise of merit."
Upon hearing this, everyone’s expressions turned sour.
"Sovereign College’s Elite Society, sounds impressive when spoken of, as if it’s mere skills alone, yet in reality, you’re just a bunch of second-generation riches, this place established to give you a head start in attaining significant positions in the future."
Seraphina Redgrave stood up, looking at each man and woman before her.
I was too naive.
"You’re spouting nonsense! Our achievements are all scored by our own capabilities!"
A boy couldn’t hold back and spoke.
"If that’s truly the case, there wouldn’t be this condition known solely to internal members."
"Requiring three generations of lineage info, bank statements, and a hefty admission fee is just to screen out the ordinary students who don’t meet the criteria."
"What nonsense!"
Caleb Crawford’s eyes were blazing.
"Sylvia, it’s not..." Selena Quinn looked awkwardly at Seraphina Redgrave, trying to explain.
"This so-called Elite Society disgusts me."
Seraphina Redgrave took back her application form from Caleb Crawford, decisively tore it apart, and threw the pieces at them.
