CHAPTER 156: CHAPTER 156: HE’S THE CHEAP ONE

Nathan Ayers didn’t even dare to speak, grasping the wine glass in his hand, at a loss for what to do.

"A woman can also make me feel so constrained, huh."

Ethan Sterling spoke with a smile, his voice cold.

He actually tolerated Seraphina Redgrave wearing matching couple outfits with someone else, purely because he feared that publicly acknowledging her might put her at risk of being kidnapped.

So what, he had so many subordinates, yet he worried he couldn’t protect a single woman?

But you never know... just in case...

Tsk.

It was the first time he’d become so cautious.

"Young Master Sterling, let’s bandage the wound."

Nathan Ayers didn’t dare to respond to Ethan’s words, so he had to change the subject.

Ethan Sterling looked at his own palm as if he could not feel the pain, clenched his fist, and his expression was very cold: "I find the Lynch Family rather unpleasant, deal with them."

"Yes, Young Master Sterling."

Nathan Ayers immediately agreed.

Seraphina Redgrave left the old Sterling residence, outside fireworks had already begun to light up the sky, filling the entire Capital with brilliant light.

She walked along the long corridor of the Sterling Family mansion, holding the phone Ethan Sterling gave her.

She felt out of sorts.

This time, Ethan had said so many unpleasant things to her, yet she wasn’t angry at all; instead, she felt somewhat touched.

Because... Ethan was protecting her.

She didn’t want to be disturbed, so Ethan had been holding back from making their relationship public.

Even when he suspected her and Leo Lynch, he didn’t lose his temper on the spot but left by himself, allowing her to avoid being the center of attention at the party.

Thinking of this, Seraphina felt that if she just left without informing Ethan, it wouldn’t be right.

But... Ethan had just humiliated her in front of everyone; how could she inform him now?

Seraphina had never felt so awkward in her life until now.

Weird.

She returned to the corridor, took a deep breath, fiddled with her phone, hesitated for a moment, and still sent a message to Ethan.

"Seraphina: I’m heading back."

After sending the message, Seraphina thought, if Ethan didn’t reply, she would leave first.

As Seraphina walked forward, she encountered Selena Quinn, who was coming her way; Selena held a glass of honey water and smiled gently when she saw her: "Sylvia, what are you doing here? Aren’t you going to watch the fireworks?"

"I’m going home."

Seraphina spoke coldly.

"It’s already late, aren’t you and Ethan going to stay at the old residence?"

Selena realized she misspoke after she said it and immediately apologized: "I’m sorry, for making you unhappy today."

"Hmm, don’t contact me again in the future."

Seraphina said expressionlessly.

Selena was momentarily speechless but still smiled gently: "Did you and Ethan have a fight? I thought he came here for you, if necessary, I could speak on your behalf?"

"Speak on my behalf? You’re not someone important in Ethan’s eyes, are you?"

Seraphina laughed mockingly.

Selena was awkwardly speechless, her face pale, and she couldn’t help but cough: "No matter what, I am family to him, if you ever need help, you can come to me."

"That’s just his nature, I’ve gotten used to it. Since he finds me annoying, I can only leave first to avoid angering him further."

Seraphina said as she looked at Selena.

Hearing this, Selena nodded, and said helplessly: "Alright, I won’t see you off then, let the driver take you, I’ll go give Ethan the honey water."

"You’re very good to Ethan."

Seraphina glanced at the honey water in Selena’s hand, smiling with a deeper meaning.

"He’s my brother, no matter what, I will be good to him."

Selena smiled warmly.

"Alright then, you carry on, I’m heading home."

Seraphina walked past Selena without a care, heading out.

Selena smiled at her and turned to leave.

Seraphina had barely taken a few steps when a hand pulled her into the darkness.

Selena heard the sound, turned her head to look, but found the corridor was already empty, with no one there.

Seraphina was suddenly hauled into a burning embrace, caused to roll against the wall, and then was dragged into a half-open door.

Inside the room was an indoor swimming pool, the lighting was dim, the water in the pool rippled gently, as if they were at the edge of a deep sea.

In her line of sight was the man’s chest, in her ear was his scorching breath, she could feel his surging emotions.

The next second, Ethan released Seraphina.

She raised her eyes and looked into Ethan’s gaze: "Actually, I’m quite grateful to you, for not making our relationship public, always helping me, yet the things you said indeed humiliated me, thanking you now feels weird, a bit too disgraceful."

Like having some sort of masochistic tendency.

Being around Ethan too long, indeed leads to getting influenced by his strange actions.

Ethan reached out his hand to her.

His palm bore a wound cut by glass, blood staining the entire palm.

Disgraceful?

If anyone’s disgraceful, it should be him, right?

Even though Seraphina wouldn’t even acknowledge their relationship, he still cherished her like a treasure in his heart.

"This is..."

Seraphina looked at Ethan’s palm, somewhat puzzled.

Ethan didn’t say anything, he simply showed her his palm, and if it weren’t for the gloom in his eyes, Seraphina would suspect that Ethan was injured and wanted her to comfort him.

Seraphina looked at him, hesitated, and spoke: "Should I apply medicine for you?"

"I’m not in a good mood right now."

Ethan stood in front of Seraphina, his slender fingers gripping her arm, slowly sliding upwards till they clasped her slender neck, his eyes cold, speaking clearly and coldly: "Do you know, when that woman said you and that Leo were riding in the same car, laughing and chatting together, I truly wanted to kill both of you."

As soon as the words fell, his blood-stained hand gripped Seraphina’s neck.

Seraphina saw the coldness flash in Ethan’s eyes, her breath catching.

"Seraphina."

Ethan choked Seraphina’s neck, his dark gaze stared menacingly at her, as he uttered her name full of affection: "Do you think, after you die by my hand, if I soak you in formalin, you’ll stay with me longer?"

Ethan’s madness started again.

Seraphina felt the hand on her neck growing stronger, making it difficult to breathe.

Would he really do it?

She raised her hand intending to elbow Ethan, but he deftly dodged it.
