Chapter 373: That Person Shares a Special Connection with You
CHAPTER 373: CHAPTER 373: THAT PERSON SHARES A SPECIAL CONNECTION WITH YOU
Shane’s movements paused for a moment, then he chuckled and said to her who was clinging to his back, "So clingy first thing in the morning."
Hearing this, Audrey Sutton tightened her arms around his slim waist and murmured behind him, "Why don’t you ever say you love me?"
Shane lowered his gaze and took a deep breath, flipping the fried egg in the pan. He heard her muttering to herself, "Do you not love me?"
Shane glanced at her, "Wash your hands and take the milk to the dining table."
Audrey let go of him and followed his instructions while saying, "We’ve been together for so long, what are you embarrassed about? Saying it won’t cost you anything."
Audrey had no classes today, so when Shane went to the company, she didn’t go to school.
She spent the morning painting at home, and then at noon, it started raining with thunder and lightning. Shane texted her saying he’d eat at the company cafeteria, and told her not to bring him lunch.
Seeing the rain pouring down outside, especially with the thunder, Audrey obediently stayed at home and had some noodles for lunch.
At two in the afternoon, she was lying on the bed scrolling through her comic reviews, and just as she felt drowsy enough to close her eyes, she received a message from Vanessa Sterling.
"Audrey, I stained that scarf yesterday. I’ve ordered you a similar one online and sent it to your school. Remember to pick it up."
Audrey: Why are you being so polite with me? It’s just a scarf that’s been in my closet for ages anyway.
Audrey then asked: Did you go back with your brother yesterday? Did he scold you?
Vanessa: No, I just woke up and am about to make something to eat, so I won’t be chatting with you for now.
Audrey: You’re even lazier than I am, go on quickly.
She didn’t know what stories lay between the sibling duo, always feeling there was something strange.
She felt that Miles Sterling was too controlling over Vanessa. Vanessa wasn’t a child anymore and had her own ability to discern right from wrong, so why did Miles still manage her so much?
While pondering over this and staring at her phone screen, a mysterious call suddenly popped up on her screen, followed by her familiar ringtone.
The number didn’t look like a regular phone number, resembling the mysterious caller from last time.
Thinking so, Audrey pressed the answer button, and before she could speak, the eerie mechanical voice from last time spoke: "Miss Sutton is more composed than I imagined, huh?"
Audrey frowned and asked, "Who exactly are you?"
"You don’t need to know who I am. You just need to know that I have what you want, and I also know a lot of things you’re curious about but don’t know."
"Just say what you need to all at once, stop with the spooky act."
Hearing a chuckle from the other end, accompanied by the thunder outside, made Audrey shiver.
"I’m just afraid that some truths may be too cruel for you, but I also think that knowing earlier might be better for you."
"Better for me?" Audrey thought, even though she was Shane’s wife now, his brother’s affair had no direct connection to her. What did this person mean by that?
"There’s an abandoned school in the old town. If you’re curious, come find me there now."
Audrey immediately thought the location sounded dangerous, especially since it was raining heavily outside. She instinctively said, "Why should I go? Who knows what kind of person you are? Meeting in a deserted place doesn’t sound like anything legitimate. You wait there; I’ll have the police come find you, and you can explain everything you know to them. Don’t waste your time with me."
The other end: "..."
Audrey: "If you really know something, assist the police in solving this long-standing case, maybe you could even earn a reward or something."
There was definitely no way she’d go look for him, but she was somewhat curious. She said this in hopes of probing the person on the other end, to see if they genuinely knew something.
As she thought, it was him using those photos to pique her interest, clearly wanting her to investigate the matter. If she remained indifferent, he might come to her and voluntarily share some clues he knew.
So, the initiative was in her hands.
Moreover, the photos he sent were only partial views without any tangible connection. Who knew if he really knew the truth or was just baiting her?
The voice on the other end said, "I’m merely a witness from back then, but there’s a powerful force behind this matter. I can’t make what I know public, so I found you."
It sounded like the person wanted to cooperate with her, seemingly on the same side.
Still, Audrey said, "Call the police, why are you looking for me? I’m just a defenseless woman, how can I help you catch the culprit?"
The voice on the other end laughed mockingly, "Call the police? If that were possible, this matter would have been resolved long ago. I just want to seek justice for Sean."
"Then why do you think I can handle what the police can’t?"
The other end was silent for a few seconds and said, "Because that person has a special relationship with you."
"What do you mean?"
"In half an hour, pick up the envelope at the security office downstairs."
"Beep—" The phone hung up.
Audrey looked puzzledly at the phone that had been hung up.
After the conversation, she didn’t find the mysterious person so terrifying. He seemed genuinely involved in the event back then. But what did he mean by "that person has a special relationship with you"?
Who is "that person"? The culprit?
Special relationship with her? Could it really be one of Shane or Vincent?
After hanging up, Audrey immediately changed clothes and went downstairs. She didn’t go to the security office but found a sheltered pavilion where she could watch the entrance to the security office.
She thought she might catch a glimpse of who it was by staking out in advance.
The half-hour wait felt long because of the suspense.
She didn’t know when exactly the person would return and didn’t dare to play on her phone, instead keeping her eyes fixed on the entrance, where few vehicles and pedestrians passed due to the rain.
The rain outside the pavilion poured down like buckets, and the stream beside it flowed more rapidly than usual due to the rain.
Only the sound of rain was in her ears when suddenly she noticed a person in a yellow raincoat riding a motorcycle showing up at the security booth. The bike stopped by the booth...
Audrey immediately stood up, squinting her eyes to see that the yellow raincoat had some delivery service logo on it.
