CHAPTER 389: CHAPTER 389: NO MAN IS RELIABLE

The next morning, Grandpa returned and said there would be a storm, and all the fishing boats had come back.

They brought back a lot of seafood, but Audrey Sutton couldn’t eat any of it.

Watching Norman Sutton eat happily, Audrey just sipped at her bowl of vegetable porridge with pickles made by her grandmother.

Looking at these large plates of oily, spicy seafood, she might have been tempted to try some before, but recently she had no appetite due to her mood.

Just after nine in the morning, the wind picked up, and soon after, raindrops as big as beans fell, quickly soaking the ground.

...

Shane Warner knew it was raining when he was on the plane and encountered several turbulence bumps.

When he walked out of the airport, the rain was heavier, and in the car, the rain felt like buckets being poured on the windows, and the wipers were constantly moving to barely see the road ahead.

After arriving at the pier, Shane saw a long line in the ticket hall and faintly heard the word "suspended."

The speakers above the hall also announced places closed due to the weather.

Driftwood Isle was among them.

He stood in the hall and looked for a while, but didn’t join the refund line, instead booking a hotel near the pier on his phone.

He checked the weather forecast, and it showed rain for the next few days, but as long as the wind wasn’t strong, the ferry service should resume.

He hesitated while holding his phone, wanting to message Audrey Sutton about his situation, but decided against it.

He thought that suddenly appearing with a surprise might increase his chances of getting her forgiveness.

These days, Shane Warner had been keeping an eye on their WhatsApp group, and Hazel Yates had asked about the weather on the island, worried that the storm might pose a danger there.

The wind wasn’t strong enough to be at a typhoon level, and it didn’t affect normal life on the island. For safety reasons, the nearby boats were stopped.

Audrey Sutton wrapped a knitted shawl around herself, sitting in the pavilion outside, feeling the wind and watching the rain, thinking about him.

Since they got married, this was the first time they hadn’t been in touch for so long.

Audrey felt that in the past, she was always the one to reach out to end their cold wars. Had she stayed stubborn as she was now back then, perhaps he would never have reached out either.

Her fingers touched the small sycamore leaf pendant on her neck, and she took a deep breath.

"Audrey!" Norman’s voice called out amidst the rain, "Grandma’s calling you in for lunch!"

Audrey turned lazily to glance at him. Her stomach felt a bit hungry, but things that she usually found delicious now seemed unappetizing.

She opened an umbrella and left the pavilion, heading back inside.

While serving rice, Grandma said, "Audrey, are you unhappy about something?"

Norman ladled big spoonfuls of soup into his bowl, saying, "What else could it be? She must have had a fight with her husband."

Audrey glared at him, then smiled and told Grandma, "Oh, Grandma, I’m not unhappy at all."

Grandma handed the rice she served to Grandpa and said to Audrey, "You sat in the pavilion all morning. You used to never sit still like that."

Audrey smiled and said, "Well, it’s raining, so I can’t go out and play."

"So when is Shane coming over? I heard from Hazel that you’re planning to have the wedding on the island?"

Audrey was stunned for a moment, then said, "We do have that plan, but he’s busy with work right now and won’t be coming here for the time being."

Upon hearing this, Grandma began to advise Audrey earnestly, "You can’t act the same after marriage as you did before. You can’t just go wherever you want. You need to think about your home. Shane’s busy with work, so you should stay with him and take care of him. How can you leave him alone while you come to play here?"

Hearing this made Audrey feel a bit wronged, but she didn’t dare to complain in front of her family members, just muttering, "Grandma, he’s a grown man. Does he still need me to take care of him?"

"Even so, you can’t just leave him alone. I think after a few more days of playing, you should go back and when the wedding is set, come back here with Shane together."

Audrey playfully pouted, "Grandma, how can you chase me away like this?"

Grandma said, "I’m not chasing you away, dear. I’m just saying you should understand a bit more. Don’t just think about having fun yourself, think more about Shane too."

Audrey couldn’t help but murmur in her heart, why can’t he think about me?

Throughout the meal, Grandma kept reminding her to understand that married life means considering each other more.

Audrey just wanted to pass these words on to Shane Warner.

Having cut off ties with him for so many days, Audrey felt that their good days seemed to be over.

The family still thought they were going to have the wedding soon.

By then, she didn’t even know how to explain it to them.

After lunch, Audrey returned to her room.

Sitting in front of her vanity, she looked at herself, unsure if it was just psychological, but she felt she looked a bit more haggard.

She weighed herself in the morning and found she had lost four pounds.

Apparently, losing weight was quite easy.

She glanced at her phone, still without any messages from him, sighed softly, and took off her wedding ring and necklace, placing them in a jewelry box and putting it away in the drawer.

She turned onto her bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, and slowly closed her eyes...

Shane Warner stayed in the hotel for two days, and still, the ferry service had not resumed.

He was growing anxious, eager to see her quickly, fearing that the longer he delayed, the more hurt she would feel.

Audrey Sutton felt like she might be falling ill, her head heavy and her limbs weak.

Her mood had been much calmer over these days, yet she still had little appetite, and with the constant rain, she just wanted to curl up in bed and sleep.

Every day passed in a daze.

One morning, when Audrey woke up, it was already ten. By then, her grandparents were likely out playing mahjong.

Feeling light-headed, Audrey wobbled as she walked along the corridor. When she reached Norman’s room, she heard his excited voice through the door.

Audrey pushed open the door. Norman sat by the computer, wearing earphones, casted her a glance, then shifted his focus back to the screen, impatiently asking, "If you have something to say, say it quick; if not, close the door."

Audrey: "I don’t feel well, can you take me to the hospital?"

While typing on his keyboard, Norman said, "There’s cold medicine in the cabinet downstairs, go find some yourself."

Audrey frowned, "Is the game more important, or is your sister more important?"

Norman: "Behind us! There’s someone behind us!"

"Nice! Nice! Brother Ba, your aim is still spot on!"

"Retreat! Retreat! Pull back for now!"

Audrey shot a glare at the "commander-in-chief" Norman, slammed the door shut with a "bang," and turned to go downstairs.

No man can be relied upon.
