CHAPTER 395: CHAPTER 395: THE PLEASURE OF REVENGE

Audrey Sutton said earnestly, "I’m not being impulsive, I’ve been thinking about it for many days."

Hazel Yates: "Then tell mom why you want a divorce?"

Audrey Sutton lowered her gaze, murmured, "I feel like he doesn’t love me."

Hazel Yates paused for a moment and asked her, "Then do you love him?"

Audrey Sutton honestly nodded, then muttered, "But I don’t want to waste my time on him anymore. He’s always giving me mixed signals, and it’s not like I’m undesirable. Why should I keep making the first move?"

Hazel Yates gave her a look, "You were the one who wanted to marry him at the time."

Audrey Sutton: "I didn’t know he was like this back then."

Hazel Yates smiled and said, "With your personality like this, who do you still want? If you choose a guy with a bad temper, it might be even harder on you."

Audrey Sutton: "Mom, whose child are you really?! He only pretends to be obedient in front of you guys."

Hazel Yates: "Only you know if you’re happy with him or not. If you really want a divorce, I won’t stop you, but I just fear that once it happens, someone might end up crying under the covers."

Audrey Sutton muttered with her head down, "Who would cry..."

"The only thing you can be certain of is whether you love him or not, because that’s what you truly feel, but you can’t judge whether he loves you based on your own feelings; only he knows that."

Audrey Sutton: "But whether he loves me or not, I can feel it."

Hazel Yates laughed and said, "Actually, Shane’s personality is quite like your dad’s, sharp-tongued but kind-hearted, not the type to sweet-talk. But isn’t life about being secure and stable? Those who talk more than they act are not reliable."

Audrey Sutton lowered her gaze and remained silent. Indeed, putting aside this cold war, she did like Shane Warner’s steady and reliable nature. She had gotten used to his sharp tongue; though his words were harsh, his heart was good.

But no matter how good a person is, if he doesn’t love her, it’s all meaningless.

"When you’re young, you have disagreements. Just lay it all out there, clear up the misunderstandings, and it’s fine. Don’t think about divorce just because you’re upset, especially since you still love him."

Audrey Sutton absorbed Hazel Yates’s words, seriously contemplating.

Hazel Yates patted her hand gently and said softly, "Take some time to cool off and observe Shane’s behavior too. As long as it’s not something unforgivable like cheating or abuse, don’t give up easily. I think he really likes you. People can lie with words and actions, but not with their eyes. Maybe he just isn’t good at expressing himself; sometimes you’re too involved to see clearly."

Seeing Audrey Sutton in deep thought, Hazel Yates knew she had listened.

She decided to stop there and didn’t continue to nag. She picked up the empty soup bowl from the bedside and stood up to ask Audrey Sutton, "Do you want more? Mom can get you another bowl?"

"Thanks, Mom, but no. I’ll just sleep for a while."

"Alright, have a good rest, and try to stay in bed for a few more days. Take good care of your health."

Audrey Sutton nodded, obediently snuggling under the covers.

Hazel Yates gently closed the room door and left. Audrey Sutton lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling.

"Dingdong—"

As she was lost in thought, the phone at her bedside beeped.

Audrey Sutton turned to glance at her phone and reached out to grab it.

Seeing Shane Warner’s WhatsApp nickname, she felt a bit dazed.

How long had it been since he last sent her a message?

She couldn’t even count the days anymore.

Audrey Sutton opened his chat window; he wrote: After going around, I still feel the scenery here is prettier.

Then below were several pictures, including images of the room he was staying in and some photos of the surroundings outside his room.

The more Audrey Sutton looked, the more familiar it felt. She went back and looked again, only to be surprised to find that the photo showed the balcony outside her room.

She immediately tossed off the covers, got out of bed, and went to the window to peek out. She saw a guesthouse not far across, and he was standing on the balcony, seemingly having spotted her.

Audrey Sutton immediately drew the curtains shut tightly and returned to bed, not responding to his message.

"Dingdong—"

The phone beeped again.

Audrey Sutton took a deep breath and picked up the phone.

He messaged: Be good and don’t get out of bed recklessly.

Audrey Sutton glared towards the window and tossed the phone aside.

Feeling annoyed, but also with a hint of flutter.

Thinking about how he used to treat her, how he didn’t reply to her messages, she too stubbornly decided not to reply to him, constantly telling herself she shouldn’t give in so easily.

Things that come too easily are often not cherished.

Under her mom’s watchful eye, Audrey Sutton stayed in bed for a whole week.

This was just the beginning; for the next month, she had to stay obediently in her room. She couldn’t even go downstairs for meals, only allowed to sit by the window and look outside. The window couldn’t be opened; she could only look through the glass.

Sitting by the computer to draw, her mom would remind her not to sit too long because of radiation and all that.

To pass the time, Audrey Sutton took Six’s Legos to play with.

Perhaps due to this incident, Six was more accommodating. It was easier than before for her to get things from him. She mentioned it, and he obediently sent the Legos to her room, several sets at that.

Seemingly generous, he still worriedly reminded her not to lose any small parts.

As for Shane Warner, he continued to send messages to her phone daily, not seeming to expect a response, just tirelessly chattering about things over there as if talking to himself.

Audrey Sutton thought, "What goes around, comes around," might really be true. When she used to message him, he ignored them.

Now it’s his turn, right? Let him feel what she felt back then. She wouldn’t indulge his bad habits easily.

Though she hadn’t replied to any of his messages, every time she heard her phone beep, Audrey Sutton would promptly drop the Lego pieces and rush to check the messages.

She read every message he sent carefully, though they weren’t particularly insightful.

He’d complain about the mattress at the guesthouse being too soft, or that the food wasn’t good, saying he missed her cooking, or griping that going to the beach alone was too boring.

Audrey Sutton thought he was just looking for things to say.

Very much like how she used to be.

Seeing him like this, Audrey Sutton felt a small sense of revenge, feeling a bit pleased inside.

She knew that he actually came to her house every day but didn’t come upstairs.

He would always come around mealtime, seemingly just to freeload on meals.
