CHAPTER 404: CHAPTER 404: I’M SO MAD!

Audrey Sutton was actually a bit suspicious of Clarissa Morgan, but she had no evidence.

During that period, she also had Quinn’s men follow Clarissa Morgan. Apart from discovering that Clarissa had frequent interactions with Nolan Hawke, there was nothing suspicious found. Moreover, during this time, she was busy with organizing global tours and probably had no time to plan these things.

Most importantly, Audrey felt that Clarissa Morgan was merely a former classmate of Shane Warner, and she shouldn’t know much about Vincent Warner and Sean Warner’s matters.

Audrey Sutton thought that this incident must have been done by someone who knew a considerable amount about the events back then. It wasn’t necessarily someone familiar with Vincent and Sean’s past, but it could also be someone who knew Shane very well.

"By the way, my second brother said that since the matter involves The Warner, it’s hard for him to investigate. I think if you step in, things would go much smoother." After speaking, Audrey looked at Shane’s expression and added, "...If you’re willing to investigate. If not, I will have my second brother pause it."

She wasn’t actually suspicious that the matter was as Nolan Hawke had told her—that Shane Warner was the true culprit. She was just afraid that involving him in this matter would affect his mood, so if he wasn’t willing to pursue it, she’d let it go.

"Thank you." Shane Warner chuckled lightly, reached across the table, and held Audrey’s hand, saying, "Thank you for doing so much for me."

The warmth from his palm was a bit intense as it fell on the back of her hand, a blush quietly creeping up her face.

Under his deep and sincere gaze, she completely forgot her little bit of pride and stubbornly allowed him to hold her hand with a blushing face.

"I’ll talk to your second brother when I go back. Tell me immediately if anything happens in the future. My brain is always more effective than yours, and I can think of more ways. Am I right?"

But the moment of emotion was fleeting. Audrey glared at him and shook off his hand in a huff: "You tell me to notify you first if anything happens, yet why don’t you tell me when something happens to you? And I asked you to explain, how did it turn into me explaining to you?"

Shane Warner smiled, totally unbothered, withdrew his hand, and laughed as he asked her, "What do you want to hear?"

Audrey’s tone was fierce, "Why didn’t you talk to me those few days?!"

Shane Warner: "The phone was broken."

Audrey: "Stop fooling me! Do you really think I’m brainless?! Did you have a change of heart those days and didn’t want to be with me anymore? And now, hearing about my incident, you feel guilty, so you’re being nice to me again?"

Shane picked up a piece of steamed ribs with his chopsticks and brought it to her lips, but she pouted and evaded, "Stop using that trick, you tell me clearly."

He chuckled lightly and said, "Your brain is really fit to make up stories; no wonder your comics are so popular."

Audrey: "Don’t change the subject."

He continued holding the chopsticks with the ribs in front of her, smiling, "Do I need to show you my heart to prove if it’s changed or not?"

"Be serious! If you don’t clarify, I’m not going back with you."

Shane insisted, moving the chopsticks closer: "Eat this and I’ll tell you."

Audrey looked at him with suspicion, then opened her mouth and bit the rib off his chopsticks.

Shane smiled with satisfaction, put down the chopsticks, leaned in slightly while looking at her, and said, "Because I was jealous, so I didn’t talk to you."

Audrey’s motion of eating the ribs paused as she asked bewilderedly, "Jealous of what? You don’t suspect there’s anything between me and Vincent, do you?! When did you become so mindless?"

Shane Warner: "I saw you drawing for another man on your computer."

Audrey was even more bewildered by what he said: "What drawing?"

Shane Warner stared at her with a half-smile: "The one you drew yourself, what do you think?"

Audrey thought about it. She had drawn a lot of men in her comics, but he should be able to tell the protagonist was him, right? Besides, she had told him before that the current comic was based on their story, so he shouldn’t be jealous over that, right?

She suddenly remembered when Barry Barrett and Nolan Hawke were dating, they asked her to draw a couple’s profile picture for them: "You’re not talking about that guy named Hawke, are you?"

Shane Warner gazed at her: "Seems like you still have a clue."

Audrey frowned, feeling anxious yet helpless: "Oh my God, how did you see that picture? And you actually thought I was interested in that Hawke guy? There’s no reason for you to be jealous of anyone, but especially not him. You’re seriously going to exhaust me! Did you seriously not talk to me for this trivial matter?!"

Shane Warner also knew that it wasn’t enough to ignore her for several days over this, but the real reason was something he couldn’t bring himself to say.

After all, during those days, he indeed lost trust in her, and thinking about it now, all he felt was that he owed her too much.

The lost child was probably a pain he could never compensate for.

Now, the only thing he could do was love her with all his might.

"Then how come you only saw one picture? Didn’t you see Bear’s? That was Bear and Hawke, who asked me to draw their couple’s profile picture when they were dating!" Audrey was both angry and exasperated, poking him on the forehead with her finger: "I always thought you’d be so shrewd, how could you be so foolish?! You’re seriously driving me crazy!"

Shane Warner laughed, reaching out to grasp the finger with which she was poking his forehead.

Audrey puffed out her cheeks and stared at him: "And how can you still laugh! If you hadn’t ignored me, I wouldn’t have..."

The sentence was half complete, and Audrey pursed her lips, swallowing the latter half back down.

No one dared to mention anything about the child.

Shane Warner chuckled, a touch of bitterness hidden in his smile, "Let’s eat, and after buying clothes, let’s go watch a movie?"

Audrey quietly withdrew her hand and asked him sullenly, "What movie are we going to see?"

Shane Warner: "Anything."

Audrey picked up her chopsticks again, continued eating, and asked him, "Why did you suddenly want to see a movie?"

Shane Warner: "Isn’t it normal for a guy to want to watch a movie with his girlfriend while on a date? Plus, it’s so hot out, being inside a cinema is less likely to get a heatstroke."

Audrey laughed, nibbling on the tip of her chopsticks, "But people also bring flowers."

Shane Warner: "I’ll buy you some after we eat."

Audrey: "What’s the point if I have to ask you to buy them? You can’t even learn properly; I think if I don’t go back with you, you might not be able to woo a wife with such tricks."

Shane Warner: "That’s why you have to save me."

Audrey’s little tail immediately perked up: "That depends on your performance."

After their meal, Audrey actually went back and bought that little dress. Shane Warner didn’t stop her and even paid for it.

Then they found a nearby mall; it was cooler inside than outside. She tossed her little parasol to him to hold, leaving her hands free to glance around at the clothes in the store on both sides.

Shane Warner patiently followed her all the time. When she picked out clothes, she’d ask him if they looked good. She’d listen to his opinion only to contradict it, almost as if she was doing it on purpose.

But the clothes all looked good on her, except for some styles he found a bit too revealing. Yet now no matter what he said, she’d ignore him, so he just had to go along with her preferences.
