CHAPTER 287: FAKE HERO

AiLin and Canary had decided to meet up that weekend. Looking at the documents that Canary had prepared for her, AiLin studied all the new informations before breaking into a smile as everything had fallen into place. If she want to do it now, it wouldn’t be too hard to destroy Jiang Family for good.

At first she had started this revenge out of a sense of hatred for they have tried to kill her daughter and now that she had found out how her daughter, LiAi, is still alive, she could decided to forgo the past and move to the future.

She could most definitely pretend that the past was all that difficult but since it was the past, she should begin a new journey and stop herself from farming more hatred.

She could, most definitely but after some thoughts, AiLin didn’t want to stop.

The future is good and she had felt more confident in facing it with Li ZiChen by her side. But what about her past and old self?

She had suffered so much back then. She had even suffered in prison where most people would have lost their minds at. The past is the past but her past self hadn’t had a time of peace in the past. She had went through years of abuse and moving on by herself wasn’t as easy as it had been. If it hadn’t been for li ZiChen and if she hadn’t seen him, she would have even chosen death or worse.... She would have taken her own life.

It was simply karma. She had turned into a living karma that would repay back for all the crimes those people had done to her.

"By the way." Canary said, "you asked me for this document. But isn’t this about Bai Haize? He’s the one who had helped you in the past isn’t he?"

AiLin nodded, "You’re right," she took the document and saw Canary’s odd expression and tilted her head, "What’s wrong? You’re looking at me weirdly."

"No," sighed Canary, "It’s just... you don’t look too happy when you asked for this. Even though you always spent your time defending his name when we were still in prison."

AiLin looked at her before tightening her fingers around the documents that Canary had just handed her, quiet for a moment until she finally spoke out, "I had a lot of things I was thinking... about."

"Such as?"

AiLin looked at Canary and bit her lower lips, "Don’t think that I’m crazy alright? It’s just that... I feel that LiAi doesn’t look anything like Bai HaiZe. I know that not all children could look the same as their parents and subjectively speaking she does look a lot like me and perhaps Bai Haize might share some features in LiAi that I am just blinded to see..."

"Oh please don’t dawdle," Canary moved closer and nudged her by the elbow with a frown, "You are doubting whether Bai HaiZe is really LiAi’s father?"

Looking at Canary’s face, AiLin’s smile turned smaller, "It sounds strange doesn’t it?"

"Strange? No," Canary hummed as she pulled her hand under her chin, "To be very honest with you, I don’t think Bai HaiZe looks like LiAi either but that’s not why I am suspicious of him. I just have this odd feeling when I see him."

AiLin would usually retort when someone speaks negatively about Bai HaiZe. After all, he has always been there to save her.

Always.

AiLin’s eyes blinked when she thought about this.

True that she had seen Bai HaiZe was bullied in her place multiple times back then but whenever she was bullied he was always there last minute to save her and protect her. Save her... at the last minute.

Always. Never once early. Always at the last minute.

The time when she was assaulted that day she had been so sure that she had instead slept with Bai HaiZe under the influence of those drugs. But now she isn’t too sure. That time the place was too dark. She was traumatized and had nothing much to remember but when she woke up she did saw Bai HaiZe and he even confirmed that he was the one who had been with her, apologizing for the mistake that had been done.

But... there was almost no proof to show that she really did sleep with him instead of someone else.

She really...

Something clicked in her head that made AiLin to sought for the documents. It started with a gut feeling and then guilt stopped her, but the more she thought about it, something nagged behind her head that made her sure that the answer was somewhere inside this document that she tried so hard to neglect.

"AiLin?" Canary’s teasing expression changed at once seeing how she had turned pale. "Calm down, do you need a sedative?"

"Ah, sedative," AiLin nodded as Canary hurried to bring out her own sedative, bringing it along a cup of water to her hand.

"You’re acting strangely," noted Canary, "Is this really only about Bai HaiZe?"

"No.. I," she blinked at Canary and began to ask what she had hesitated, "Do you think someone would really want to declare that they had assaulted someone when they hadn’t? You wouldn’t want that... right?"

"Of course not," Canary answered with a sigh, "Only someone crazy or psycho would do such thing."

Turning to her, Ailin stared and a question subconsciously slipped from her mouth, "You’re right. Then do you think there is a psycho who would play a white knight when they were the one who had... destroyed someone else’s life?"

Canary seemed to slowly understood what she meant as her expression turned stunned in face of the question.

For a moment she considered her reply and chose the honest yet painful truth.

"There is," Canary looked at her, placing a hand on her back, "There are many who gets off on being a savior even if it means that they have to be the one to destroy someone else’s life. Considering how psycho they are, they would even orchestrated accidents to their target so they could appear as the savior they wanted to be."
