Chapter 129 - 129 125 Will You Believe Me
Chapter 129: Chapter 125 Will You Believe Me? Chapter 129: Chapter 125 Will You Believe Me? Lu Jingyan was startled for a moment, hastily hung up the phone, and turned to run downstairs.
She was in a hurry. Her legs hit something hard twice, but she continued as if she felt nothing, dashing to the door, and pushed it open to enter the yard.
As the weather had turned warmer recently, a thin single-layer shirt was enough during the hottest part of the afternoon, but the nights were still somewhat cool. The wind at midnight blew sharply, making Lu Jingyan much more alert.
In the blink of an eye, she had run to the courtyard entrance and suddenly felt a sense of unreality. She couldn’t help but slow down, took a deep breath in front of the closed door, and then lifted her hand to pull it open.
She walked out holding her breath, carrying an unprecedented nervousness, and slowly turned her head.
Her mind went blank for a few seconds, and then the hand she’d been clenching suddenly relaxed, silently letting out a sigh of relief.
This wasn’t a dream. Not a hallucination. The car was there. He was there.
Hearing the door sound, Sheng Xian turned his head, meeting her gaze straight on.
In that moment, the world seemed to stand still, as he and she silently looked at each other, neither uttering a word.
She stared at him, not daring to even blink.
Fearing that if she did, the man before her would vanish.
After an indeterminate amount of time, Lu Jingyan slowly lifted her foot and walked towards him.
She gazed vacantly at the person who was gradually nearing, and that sense of unreality she had felt before pushing open the gate crept back into her heart. She couldn’t shake the feeling that this was all a dream, and in the next second, Aunt Sun would knock on her bedroom door, calling her downstairs for breakfast.
She stood in front of him.
As the distance between them shortened, she caught his scent.
She looked at him, even more bewildered now.
Sheng Xian lowered his eyelids. Seeing her silent, he broke the silence, “Had a nightmare again?”
Hearing him speak, Lu Jingyan blinked, snapping back to reality. She didn’t speak but quietly reached out with two fingers, tugging at the hem of his shirt, reassured by the very real touch before she replied with a content “Hmm.”
With that hum, Lu Jingyan fully emerged from her state of unreality, and her senses fully returned to normal.
She looked at him without thinking and blurted out, “My leg hurts.”
One second she was in a nightmare, the next she was changing the subject.
Her train of thought certainly shifted quickly.
Sheng Xian was caught off guard for a moment.
Lu Jingyan bent down, rubbing her knee.
Sheng Xian followed her movement, casting his eyes down.
She came out in a hurry, wearing a nightgown, and there were two noticeable red marks on her legs that were exposed.
Sheng Xian asked, “How did that happen?”
“Ah?” Lu Jingyan looked down, “I don’t know, seems like I just bumped into something.”
Sheng Xian didn’t speak, crouched down to check her leg, and, ensuring it wasn’t too serious, stood up and, in one smooth motion, opened the car door, “It’s cold outside, get in the car.”
Lu Jingyan climbed into the car, and Sheng Xian closed the door, then walked around to the other side and got into the car as well.
Sheng Xian: “Want to eat something?”
Lu Jingyan wasn’t very hungry: “Don’t really feel like it.”
Sheng Xian: “Then do you want to go anywhere?”
Lu Jingyan thought about it. There wasn’t much to do in the middle of the night, and besides, going home to change clothes seemed too bothersome: “Don’t really want to move.”
After a pause, Lu Jingyan added: “Let’s just stay in the car.”
Sheng Xian didn’t insist and complied with her wish.
The car became quiet.
Fearing that she might be cold in her thin clothes, Sheng Xian turned up the heater a bit.
The sound of the air conditioning was somewhat loud, constantly whooshing.
Sheng Xian glanced at Lu Jingyan by his side.
The girl had lost all of the panic and unease from the phone call, now leisurely looking through his car drawers, lifting lids to touch and explore.
If it hadn’t been for her still red eyes, it would have been hard to believe she had experienced a nightmare.
“Do you often have nightmares?”
Hearing Sheng Xian’s question, Lu Jingyan stopped her hand that was fiddling with the air vent.
She remembered that someone had taken all of Sheng Xian’s information. Although she was unsure whether Sheng Xian was currently receiving any troubling messages, she knew it was only a matter of time.
Lu Jingyan withdrew her fingertips, turned her head towards Sheng Xian, and instead of answering his question, she asked, “Would you believe me?”
