CHAPTER 52: 052: FALLING TO THE GROUND
The four of them had finished eating, and Yun Qi paid the bill. It was already 7:30 when they left the restaurant, the neon lights at the street corner coloring half the night sky, while the silver-white new moon was obscured by clouds, giving off a hazy feeling.
Yun Qi raised his wrist to check the time and turned to Cen Jin and Ye Lingran: "Are you heading back now, or do you want to wander around?"
"Let’s head back! Didn’t we say we needed to go back and prepare? I also need to go online and check some materials, like videos of previous Milan shows," Cen Jin also took out her phone to check the time, and by the end, her statement turned into a question as her eyes instinctively sought the opinions of Ye Lingran and Yun Xi.
Ye Lingran nodded with a smile: "Yeah, I’ll head back too. See you at our studio tomorrow!"
"Okay, I’m going to go back and refine the inspiration that suddenly came to me today," Yun Xi chimed in agreement.
"In that case, why don’t I give you a ride back?" Yun Qi asked after seeing they had all decided.
Cen Jin suddenly remembered something Jiang Baizhou had said before dinner, thought for a moment, and said: "Uh... no need for me. Before dinner, a friend called and asked me to call him back after, so I’ll be going back with him later. No need for you to go out of your way." After speaking, she casually glanced at Ye Lingran, then immediately pulled her over with a smile and said, "Why don’t you give Lingran a ride? She lives quite far from here."
"Huh?" Ye Lingran, suddenly being put on the spot, was a little taken aback but quickly smiled and waved her hand: "It’s alright, I’ll just take a taxi back, no need to trouble President Yun."
"Are you silly to take a cab when you can get a free ride?" Yun Xi hooked Ye Lingran’s arm and gave her a playful glare: "Lingran, where do you live?"
"Moon Mountain District Linghua Road."
"That is pretty far," Yun Xi mumbled, her eyes falling on Yun Qi: "Brother...."
"Miss Ye, please don’t feel burdened. Actually, half of our way is in the same direction," Yun Qi said warmly with a gentle smile. "Cen Jin, is your friend picking you up here, or do you have to go over to him? Do you need me to drop you off?"
"No, I’ll just give him a call and have him come over," she replied.
"Alright then, we’ll head out first."
"Okay, drive safely."
"Cen Jin, we’ll go ahead. Is it okay for you to wait here alone? Is Jiang Baizhou coming to pick you up?" Ye Lingran, being pulled by Yun Xi, took a few steps but still turned back with concern.
Cen Jin smiled, making an ’OK’ gesture, nodding confidently: "Yeah, you go on ahead! What could possibly happen to me, waiting here for just a little while?"
"See you tomorrow, send me a WeChat message when you get home safely."
"Sure, no problem."
After they got in the car and left, Cen Jin took a deep breath and dialed Jiang Baizhou’s number. To her surprise, the call was answered immediately by his deep, rich, indifferent voice: "Finished eating?"
"Yes, I finished eating," Cen Jin replied as she looked around and started to walk toward the zebra crossing ahead. "How about you? Are you done with work over there?"
"Almost, send me your location on WeChat and I’ll come to pick you up."
"Okay," Cen Jin replied, then hung up the phone. Looking down at her phone, she suddenly saw a bicycle coming her way with the sound of a horn. When she looked up, it was too late. Instinctively, she moved to the side, but there was a boy walking right there. Unable to evade it, the bicycle hit her calf, causing her to lose balance and fall to the ground.
