CHAPTER 323: CHAPTER 323: THIS IS OUR GREAT CITY LORD 2

So, Si Mingjing followed Butler Yang into the residence where the acting City Lord lived.

The acting City Lord’s residence resembled a castle hidden deep beneath the sea. She followed Butler Yang through the castle’s long, winding corridors, noticing murals hanging on the walls every few meters. This wasn’t particularly strange, but every mural depicted the same person—to be precise, the same man.

Butler Yang, noticing her curiosity, said, "This is our great City Lord."

"The one who liberated Mengcheng?"

"Exactly."

Rather handsome, Si Mingjing thought.

"What illness does our acting City Lord have?" Si Mingjing asked, trying to make conversation.

Butler Yang replied, "Severe syncope."

Butler Yang had no confidence in Si Mingjing’s medical skills. He feared she was merely a charlatan who would anger the acting City Lord, so he warned her:

"Our acting City Lord has suffered from high blood pressure for 20 years. It hasn’t been well-controlled, leading to arteriosclerosis and cerebral ischemia. The syncope has gradually worsened, developing into severe vertigo, which is a precursor to a stroke. She’s taken a lot of Western medicine, but nothing has had a significant effect. If you’re not capable of treating her, just take a cursory look and go through the motions. You wouldn’t be the first one unable to cure her, so don’t try to be a hero!"

Si Mingjing considered this.

According to Butler Yang’s description, this sounds like a case of excessive yang, hyperactivity of liver yang, and internal liver wind causing dizziness. The treatment should focus on calming the liver and extinguishing wind, nourishing yin, and subduing yang.

However, Si Mingjing knew she couldn’t confirm the accuracy of Butler Yang’s description without taking the acting City Lord’s pulse.

"We’re here. It’s just ahead."

Butler Yang walked to the door of a lounge, stood respectfully outside, and knocked.

"Come in." A weak voice, lacking vitality, came from inside the room.

Butler Yang opened the door and gestured for Si Mingjing to enter.

Si Mingjing entered and was mildly surprised to see only an elderly woman in the room.

The acting City Lord is an elderly woman?

The acting City Lord, Duanmu Xue, was in her fifties. She sat in a rocking chair, wrapped in a thick blanket. Her face was heavily made up with thick foundation, rouged cheeks, and bright red lipstick. Despite her dignified makeup and elegant, appropriate attire, she appeared to be a delicate woman.

Traditional Chinese Medicine emphasizes diagnosis through observation, listening and smelling, questioning, and pulse-taking. However, Si Mingjing couldn’t discern Madam Duanmu’s true complexion beneath the makeup; she only noted the deep hollows of her eyes and her exhausted appearance.

"Madam, this is the doctor Mr. Zhu engaged for you. She practices Traditional Chinese Medicine. You’ve seen so many Western doctors without improvement, so I thought, why not try Chinese medicine?" The butler maintained a respectful demeanor in front of Madam Duanmu.

"Western medicine couldn’t cure it. How could Chinese medicine possibly succeed?" Madam Duanmu looked at Si Mingjing, her first impression clearly one of skepticism. A cold glint in her eyes, she snapped, "Get out! How dare you bring just anyone here? Do you see that I’m gravely ill and think you can treat me like some hopeless case for experimentation?"

Frightened, the butler quickly gestured behind his back for Si Mingjing to leave immediately. Unfortunately, Si Mingjing pretended not to notice.

Si Mingjing, neither obsequious nor arrogant, calmly approached the rocking chair. "Madam, since I’m already here, why not let me take your pulse? If there’s even a 0.0001% chance I can cure your syncope, wouldn’t that alleviate your suffering?"

Madam Duanmu had a fiery temper and didn’t trust Si Mingjing in the slightest. A twenty-year-old girl claiming to have medical skills! They must all think they can just try anything on me since I’m so ill!

Si Mingjing gave Butler Yang a pointed look.

Butler Yang, though inwardly cursing Si Mingjing, had no choice but to say, "Madam, why not let her try? If she proves incapable, we won’t let her continue and will simply send her away. You have nothing to lose. Why not give it a shot?"

Madam Duanmu hesitated for a moment before extending her hand. Although her makeup was exquisite, the skin on her wrist was dull and lacked luster, presumably due to her illness.

Si Mingjing took her pulse and quickly understood the situation. The butler was right. The acting City Lord indeed suffers from hypertension due to hyperactive liver yang.

Si Mingjing said, "Madam, you have hyperactive liver yang and internal agitation of liver wind, which manifests as dizziness. The treatment should focus on pacifying the liver, extinguishing wind, nourishing yin, and subduing yang."

Madam Duanmu didn’t understand any of it. Filled with distrust, she felt Si Mingjing was merely spouting mystifying jargon.

She responded dismissively, "Is that so? Then just write the prescription and leave quickly. I’m very tired and want to rest."

"Is it specifically dizziness you’re experiencing?" Si Mingjing asked carefully.

Madam Duanmu had no desire to speak further. She was indeed dizzy, her whole body felt unwell, and yet she still had to deal with this young girl. Madam Duanmu just wanted to get rid of her quickly so she could see a doctor with actual medical skills.

Just before Si Mingjing’s arrival, someone had called Madam Duanmu to inform her that a renowned physician had been summoned and would arrive in half an hour. Madam Duanmu eagerly awaited the arrival of this renowned physician.

Si Mingjing, receiving no answer, didn’t press further. She wrote a very simple prescription.

It consisted of: Kudzu, Dragon Bone, and Sour Jujube Seed Decoction; 25mg of Cinnarizine tablets; and 12.5mg of Captopril tablets.

Madam Duanmu looked at the prescription. It detailed the "Kudzu, Dragon Bone, and Sour Jujube Seed Decoction": Kudzu root 50g, raw Dragon Bone 30g, and stir-fried Sour Jujube Seeds 30g. This was for three doses, one dose per day, to be decocted in water and taken in three 200ml servings. Additionally, Captopril tablets 12.5mg, twice daily, and Cinnarizine tablets 25mg, twice daily.

Madam Duanmu said, "That’s it? You’re telling me to drink a decoction?"

"Yes, Madam. When preparing the decoction, the raw Dragon Bone must be simmered for one hour first before adding the other herbs. Typically, the dizziness will cease within half an hour of taking the medicine."

"What a joke! Get out!"

Just as I suspected—a charlatan! So many renowned physicians couldn’t cure my dizziness, and this young girl tells me drinking a decoction will do the trick?! This isn’t confidence; it’s sheer ignorance! So ignorant she thinks she can fool people? Do young people these days take everyone for fools? How could I, the esteemed acting City Lord, be duped by a mere slip of a girl?

Si Mingjing knew Madam Duanmu wasn’t receptive. After being dismissed, she specifically instructed the butler to prepare the medicine anyway. She suggested he fetch the ingredients and start brewing it, just in case it had an effect. Then, she transferred a generous sum of money to Butler Yang as a "red packet."

She had won fifty million at a casino while accompanying Mo Yinhe to the Four Nations Summit. Since it was Undersea Currency, it was useless on land. Giving Butler Yang one hundred thousand didn’t pain her in the slightest, considering how easily she had acquired the money.

Seeing her generosity, Butler Yang agreed to try and persuade Madam Duanmu to drink the medicine.

Butler Yang was a greedy man.

Si Mingjing liked to manipulate people by exploiting their weaknesses.

Before leaving, she added, "Butler Yang, if you can persuade Madam Duanmu to take my medicine, I’ll transfer another one hundred thousand to you."

Hearing this, Butler Yang was indeed incentivized. Si Mingjing believed that for an additional one hundred thousand, he would do his utmost.

Not long after Si Mingjing left, another renowned physician arrived at the acting City Lord’s residence to treat Madam Duanmu. He was a practitioner of Western medicine.

Madam Duanmu recounted Si Mingjing’s prescription to the Western doctor as if it were a joke. After listening, he simply shook his head.

"Madam, there’s no need for you to concern yourself with a charlatan. As they say, ’the ignorant are fearless’!"
