Chapter 349: Chapter 245: Do You Want to Leave Evidence of Your Shamelessness?_2

Su Nian, clutching a hot water bottle, found the night temperature here rather low, making it comfortable enough to fall asleep shortly after.

Shen Hanxiu was worried she’d have another sleepless night in pain. He relaxed only after seeing she had fallen asleep, and even lightened his movements as he crawled into the blanket, gently holding her from behind.

The next day, gentle sunlight sprinkled over the small town. Su Nian lazily opened her eyes, the sunshine and the sound of water lapping against the shore putting her in an exceptionally good mood.

Turning her head, she saw Shen Hanxiu’s handsome face, which brightened her mood even further.

She turned over, studying his gentleness at the moment, guessing she would probably receive a scowl when he woke.

After staring for five minutes, Su Nian couldn’t resist anymore and began to playfully poke his nose.

The man immediately opened his eyes, grabbed her hand with a slight frown, his eyes sharp.

Su Nian puffed her cheeks, then slowly pulled her hand away, “Honey, I’m hungry.”

His expression immediately became resentful, his tone slightly angry as his gaze fell on her chest, “Your husband is hungry too!”

Knowing hunger wasn’t an option, he threw off the blanket, “Hungry? Then get up quickly!”

A new day began.

The two enjoyed lotus leaf steamed buns in the ancient tower, the fragrant lotus aroma filling the air. Su Nian alone devoured two servings, very satisfied.

Today, they planned to head back as the road had been fixed, no longer the muddy path it once was.

Su Nian held his hand, contentedly admiring the scenery along the way home.

“Ouch!”

Seeing her limp, Shen Hanxiu stopped, a look of disdain on his face, “What’s wrong?”

Su Nian bent down rubbing her ankle, “Sprained…”

“I told you not to wear high heels!” he scolded while bending down in front of her.

Su Nian smiled, climbed onto his back, “You’re so tall, I’d hurt my neck trying to look at you without high heels.”

He didn’t say anything more, resignedly carrying her.

Su Nian wrapped her arms around his neck, swinging her feet.

After a while, he hoisted her up a bit and commented, “Looks light, but quite substantial when carried!”

“Am I heavy?”

He grimaced, not responding.

A tractor drove by, “Dudu dudu,” and Su Nian, spotting it, waved it down, “Hey! Uncle! Can you give us a ride?”

The kind-looking uncle driving a tractor full of straw asked, “Where to, miss?”

Su Nian pointed ahead, “Just over there, to that community.”

“It’s on my way, hop on. Just be warned, it’s not the most comfortable ride.”

Su Nian quickly hopped off Shen Hanxiu’s back and limped over, “No worries, thanks uncle.”

Shen Hanxiu, looking disdainful, followed her to the tractor.

He jumped onto the vehicle, pulling her up with him.

Su Nian made herself comfortable in the straw, the tractor moving slowly, the passing scenery unfolding before her eyes.

Seeing her scratch her back while wearing a sleeveless t-shirt, Shen Hanxiu silently took off his jacket and handed it to her, “Wear this.”

Su Nian didn’t refuse, chuckling as she put it on, pointing at the straw behind her, “It’s a bit prickly.”

Shen Hanxiu didn’t join in her playful banter, turning his head to look aside.

Su Nian pouted, her gaze lingering on him for a long time.

His short hair neatly cut, clean and crisp, white shirt, slim-fit casual trousers; a simple outfit that looked dazzling against his elegant demeanor.

Why is life so unfair? Even sitting on a pile of straw, his regal aura was undeniable.

Even if he were a farmer, one would still see him as the owner of a wealthy estate.

“Is it that interesting to look at?”

Su Nian swallowed, reluctantly turning away, “Who’s looking at you? Shameless.”

The tractor stopped at a familiar intersection. Su Nian intended to give the uncle some money, but the sincere man steadfastly refused, “It was on my way anyway, and I had to come here myself.”

Su Nian thanked him repeatedly, feeling ever more that this was a good place, so genuine, without all the cunning and scheming.

The old cobblestone paths were still there, flanked by large trees, adding a touch of tranquility to the mundane road.

Approaching the house nearby, seeing the towering trees in the garden, Su Nian remarked, “They’re still here…”

He used to lean against one of these trees to read, and she used to annoy him.

After he left, she too had grown fond of this tree, often coming alone to sit underneath, thinking of him, shedding tears, falling asleep.

Shen Hanxiu walked over, his gaze suddenly caught by something on the trunk.

As if remembering something, Su Nian immediately rushed over, using her hand to block his view, “Don’t look!”

“Han Zisheng, I really like you.” He softly smiled, reciting the line she was covering.

Then he saw another, Su Nian’s face flushed as she tried to cover it too.

But he had seen it, “Han Zisheng, I miss you.”

His smile deepened, while Su Nian’s face turned even redder, hurriedly saying, “I didn’t write it!”

Shen Hanxiu smiled, leisurely watching her, “I didn’t say you did.”

However, both knew the answer.

Realizing she was metaphorically ‘hiding money from the land inspector’, Su Nian deflated and let her hands drop.

The carvings on the trunk had blurred, merging into the traces on the bark, barely discernible, the childish handwriting…

Shen Hanxiu, pretending not to care, turned and walked forward.

Su Nian looked at the inscriptions, her face full of nostalgia, then pulled out her phone from her bag and photographed the two sentences.

Shen Hanxiu unexpectedly returned, “Still want to keep evidence of your shamelessness?”

Su Nian put away her phone after taking the photo, “Look who’s talking.”

Then, arm in arm, they limped forward, every step a memory…
