"Why?" Jian Dan was full of confusion, her little face etched with disappointment. Her eyes resembled those of a small, aggrieved animal seeking its master’s protection. Bo Qin’s Adam’s apple bobbed, and he chuckled, freeing one hand to pinch her cheek. "Don’t be upset. The beach is dangerous with so many people, and look at all these obstacles. Let’s just have fun playing around as if we’re getting through a routine and not leave behind any regrets. It’s better not to try those too thrilling challenges, okay?"

Though Jian Dan felt some disappointment, she let herself be persuaded by Bo Qin and sulked, "Alright then."

"That reluctant? I was planning to delay our return and take you out to sea for a BBQ. Do you not want to go?" Bo Qin feigned a look of regret, and Jian Dan’s eyes immediately sparkled.

Twisting around, she grabbed Bo Qin’s arm. "Uncle Qin, are you really going to take me out to sea?"

"Have I ever lied to you?"

After thinking for a moment, Jian Dan shook her head. "Never."

Bo Qin chuckled. "So, what do you think, is it true or not?"

Jian Dan grinned. The novelty of beach off-roading quickly wore off for her, and it was only a matter of thirty minutes or so. They had left early that day, and it was just past nine in the morning. The seawater was still cool. Bo Qin suggested they head out to sea first and come back in the afternoon for diving and riding jet skis when the temperature would be perfect.

Jian Dan always heeded Bo Qin’s instructions without second thought, nodding in agreement right away. Bo Qin could pilot the yacht, which had been arranged by Secretary Zhou. Bo Qin led her to the car going to the harbor, with Secretary Zhou driving and Wen Xue in the passenger seat.

Jian Dan was excited. "Secretary Zhou, Sister Wen Xue, are you both going too?"

She was genuinely pleased at the prospect of company, but Bo Qin looked indifferent, showing no emotion. Secretary Zhou did not dare say they were joining, and Xiaoxiao said with a smile, "Miss Little, we won’t be joining you. Wen Xue and I have work to do, we’re just dropping you two off at the harbor."

Jian Dan’s eyes shifted to Wen Xue, who was nodding vigorously, "Yes, Miss Little, we’re just dropping you and Manager Bo off at the harbor. When you return, we’ll pick you up. Wen Xue and I have to go to the office to handle documents. You just have a good time with Manager Bo."

In reality, it was Manager Bo taking time to entertain her, but Wen Xue didn’t dare say this.

Jian Dan, ever so prone to self-blame, was afraid to say anything more that might irritate Manager Bo and spoil the mood.

Hearing this, Jian Dan felt disappointed. "Oh, I thought you were going to join us for fun. BBQ is better with more people."

Wen Xue smiled. "There’s a way to have fun in a crowd, and there’s a way to enjoy being with just a few. Manager Bo is surely a good cook; are you hoping for us to come and share your good fortune?"

Jian Dan sneakily glanced at Bo Qin, saw his expression unchanged, and chuckled, shaking her head resolutely, "I don’t want to."

Bo Qin’s lips twitched, and a faint smile appeared.

Upon reaching the harbor and boarding the yacht, Wen Xue took a deep breath and said to Secretary Zhou, "Seeing Manager Bo’s unhappy face earlier, I was worried we’d be accompanying them, right?"

"Obviously, could you not tell?"

Wen Xue: "...Luckily I was tactful and didn’t speak out of turn, Little Jian Dan really knows how to set a trap, and I was worried about falling in it myself."

Secretary Zhou glanced at Wen Xue with a smirk that said too much, and even though Wen Xue felt the look carried a deep disdain, she pretended not to notice and just went about her business.

Secretary Zhou walked to the car, stood at the door with his hand resting on it, and called out, "Wen Xue."

Wen Xue walked over, startled by the sudden calling of her name, and looked up at him with puzzlement, "What is it?"

Secretary Zhou smiled. "I’m heading back to the office. Where are you going?"

After a moment’s thought, Wen Xue replied, "I’ll go to the office too. I’ve had some unfinished tasks since I was temporarily taking care of Jian Dan. I’ll finish them first. What do you need at the office, Secretary Zhou?"

"To attend a meeting in place of Manager Bo."

Wen Xue: "..."

Could this be considered the follies of a negligent ruler?

The yacht made it convenient to head out to sea, and it was fast too. The secretary prepared many necessities on board, including swimsuits for both of them. While Bo Qin piloted the yacht, Jian Dan rummaged through the cabin haphazardly and even found diving essentials like goggles. She ran excitedly to the control room. "Uncle Qin, we can go diving later. Secretary Zhou prepared the diving suits and all the other stuff. Everything’s ready."

Seeing her smile as bright as a blooming flower, Bo Qin didn’t refuse.

"All right, I’ll teach you later."

"Okay, sounds great."

Bo Qin steered the yacht towards a small island as indicated on the map. However, because of rising water levels, they couldn’t go to the cave on the island to explore. He had been there before and had wanted to show Jian Dan, but nature was unpredictable. After explaining the situation to Jian Dan, she looked disappointed.
