My Husband, a Marshal: Conquering the Stars with My Culinary Arts
Chapter 454 - 154 Late Return
CHAPTER 454: CHAPTER 154 LATE RETURN
"That’s right, both you and Ah Lan are too busy." Ke Xing nodded, placing a half-drunk cup of warm tea on the coffee table, and picked up the Interstellar Morning News. "It’s fortunate that your class schedule isn’t jam-packed, giving you more time to accompany the children on regular days."
Du Xixi smiled gently, using a clean towel passed by 2569 to wipe the sweat off Yiyi and Er Er — they had been playing so vigorously just now, their foreheads were dotted with fine sweat.
"Ah!" Yiyi grabbed his brother’s hand, the two siblings were very close together. Du Xixi happened to wipe all the sweat off his forehead, and Yiyi raised his head, reaching for the towel in Du Xixi’s hand with his free hand.
"Be good, don’t make a fuss." Du Xixi said softly. As 2569 took the towel, Du Xixi used another towel to wipe Er Er’s sweat, "Keep fussing, and Mommy won’t play with you anymore."
"Okay!" Yiyi answered obediently. Whether he was casually responding or actually understood, after Du Xixi’s gentle warning, he really "calmed down," leaning against his brother without moving erratically.
Compared to his energetic brother, Er Er was incredibly well-behaved. Earlier, he was clingy and wanted Du Xixi to play with him, but now he let his eyes droop and allowed Du Xixi to wipe his sweat. When Du Xixi smiled and gently pinched his cheek, Er Er grinned wide, looking adorably cute.
With two adorable sons around, Du Xixi’s day was fulfilling. Even Ke Xing found himself idle, unable to join the mother and sons, so he leisurely went out with a teacup in hand.
Since having children, he rarely had the chance to visit others alone like today, and he wondered if his old friends missed him.
By dusk, Ke Xing returned home with the setting sun, but Ke Lian hadn’t arrived yet. Such late returns were rare recently, which made Du Xixi a bit worried. After handing the children back to their grandfather, she sent a message to Ke Lian using the Light Computer.
That wasn’t enough; over half an hour passed without a response from Ke Lian, and the night outside began to cover the sky. Du Xixi anxiously waited at the doorstep, worriedly watching the direction Ke Lian usually came home from.
"Miss, the Marshal won’t encounter any trouble." A Mecha soldier stood by Du Xixi’s side, being one of the closest among the Mecha soldiers. "Perhaps the Military Department has an urgent meeting."
If the Military Department had to convene an urgent meeting, it would be normal for attendees not to use the Light Computer. Nonetheless, an inexplicable unease brewed in Du Xixi’s heart. She merely pursed her lips upon hearing this and didn’t speak.
The Mecha soldiers were there to protect Du Xixi. In an emergency, they would forcibly escort her inside, but the current situation was calm; even the passing kittens were still nursing. So, they merely stood silently by Du Xixi’s side, only serving as bodyguards.
Luckily, after a short wait for Du Xixi, the hovercar bearing Ke Lian zoomed back quickly. Not only did Ke Lian get out, but Mo Feng was there too—they both appeared fine, without a scratch.
"Xixi." The autumn evening breeze was a bit chilly. From a distance, Ke Lian saw Du Xixi standing in the wind wearing light clothes. He hurriedly said, taking big steps toward her to hold her as soon as he got off.
Ke Lian clasped Du Xixi’s hands, feeling the chill in her soft hands, which made his heart ache. He wrapped her hands with his big hands and started explaining even before Du Xixi could ask: "There was a new meeting at the Military Department, so I’m home late."
Saying this, as if recalling something, Ke Lian shook his wrist where the Light Computer was: "My Light Computer had a small problem, and it couldn’t receive any messages temporarily."
Du Xixi sighed with relief, not asking about the meeting’s contents. Instead, she invited Mo Feng inside: "Come inside quickly. 2569 has already prepared dinner, let’s eat first."
"I’m in for a treat then; 2569’s cooking skills are better than other Robot butlers!" Mo Feng and Du Xixi had met at Blue Star University not long ago. Mo Feng was the military instructor for the Food Department, but now he seemed slimmer and sharper, Du Xixi noticed.
As the three of them walked inside, a headwind blew a strand of Du Xixi’s hair into her face just as they were about to enter the door, causing her to turn her head instinctively. Her peripheral vision caught sight of the hovercar’s rear wheel coming through the side gate.
