CHAPTER 478: CHAPTER 162: BEAUTY SAVES THE HERO
On an afternoon when Mo Ying and Ye Wenting were napping at the Ke household, Du Xixi didn’t return to her office or the Ke household after class. Instead, she turned towards the building where political economics classes were held.
Miao Miao returned home once a month, and coincidentally, November’s "Homecoming Day" was today. Du Xixi specifically called Miao Miao to wait for her beneath the teaching building so the two sisters could go home together.
"Miss!" Miao Miao stood under a tree, a backpack slung over her shoulders. She greeted Du Xixi, who was approaching from a distance, and then trotted over to her.
Since she was going home, Miao Miao wasn’t wearing the Blue Star University uniform. Instead, she wore a black custom casual outfit which let her long cat tail sway freely behind her. Passersby didn’t give her any weird looks but instead greeted her warmly.
Du Xixi walked towards Miao Miao as well, accompanied as usual by several mechanical soldiers. Observing coldly, she felt that Miao Miao’s popularity at Blue Star University seemed better than she had expected, which made her smile slightly and feel somewhat relieved.
She had always worried that Miao Miao was too introverted. At home, she had rarely spoken, and now that she was at Blue Star University, she hoped Miao Miao wouldn’t just immerse herself in studies and become a complete "bookworm."
Fortunately, the situation seemed good now, which put Du Xixi at ease.
"The people greeting you, are they all friends you know?" By this time, Miao Miao had already reached Du Xixi. Du Xixi stopped walking and used a handkerchief to wipe Miao Miao’s slight sweat, asking softly yet nonchalantly.
Though Du Xixi’s tone was mild, Miao Miao could sense her concern. Her bright golden eyes fluttered, and she directly linked arms with Du Xixi, speaking softly: "They are people I see regularly. Everyone is very kind to me."
The political economics department at Blue Star University isn’t exactly a niche field. When adding everyone up, the department’s population is among the largest at Blue Star University. It’s just that there are so many branches, making it hard for everyone to feel its presence on a daily basis.
"Hmm, that’s good." Du Xixi nodded gently and put away the handkerchief, walking out with Miao Miao while a mechanical soldier stepped forward and took the backpack Miao Miao was carrying.
"Thank you, Sir Mechanical Soldier," Miao Miao turned her head and thanked the expressionless mechanical soldier, who nodded slightly as he accepted Miao Miao’s polite gratitude.
Blue Star University always has two or three days a month with no scheduled classes. It’s during this time that Miao Miao returns to the Ke household, so there were quite a few students carrying large bags heading out as well.
"Is that person also your classmate? Do you know him?" Du Xixi’s gaze suddenly swept over a young boy in the crowd who was wrapped tightly in a loose black cloak, only revealing a furry long tail when walking.
It was black.
Following Du Xixi’s line of sight, Miao Miao’s expression changed upon seeing the back of the silhouette, not looking very pleased. She lowered her voice so that only Du Xixi and she could hear: "Miss, that student, like me, is also in the political economics department. However, he’s not in on special admission; he properly studied for decades and got in through the interstellar examination."
The boy walked quickly, and before Miao Miao could finish speaking, he had already left through the main gate of Blue Star University, boarding a hovercar and leaving. At this point, Miao Miao didn’t know if she felt relieved or what, but her voice returned to normal, "He seems to have undergone human experimentation when he was a child, ended up with an extra tail, but beyond that, there’s nothing really different."
Du Xixi’s eyes flickered, murmuring softly with slight surprise, "At such a young age..."
It was no wonder Du Xixi felt surprised. From what she understood, those pitiful souls subjected to human experimentation were either abandoned by their families or specially sponsored. The former often faced death, while the latter still had a chance to continue living, like a biologist Blue Star University had sponsored before.
"He’s quite fortunate," Du Xixi remarked, but didn’t say more after that. Her curiosity wasn’t strong enough to pry into others’ privacy even more. "You seem somewhat afraid of him. Is he usually bad-tempered, or does he have a bad temper towards you?"
Miao Miao rarely showed such a strange attitude towards someone. Even though she was respectful towards Chen Yin and Ke Lian, her respect was always tempered with the closeness one has with family.
