Chapter 77 - 28 Regret_2
CHAPTER 77: CHAPTER 28 REGRET_2
"Are you feeling unwell?" Ke Lian was worried that Du Xixi was too uncomfortable to sleep. He reached out and patted Xixi’s abdomen. "Is the baby bothering you?"
Xixi initially thought something was wrong, but upon hearing this, she sat up and helplessly tapped Ke Lian’s forehead. "Oh, you! The baby hasn’t even formed yet! Do you have any common sense?"
Ke Lian felt embarrassed but immediately, shamelessly hugged Xixi, who wasn’t feeling unwell, and laughed. "It’s my first time being a dad! Xixi, please don’t be mad..."
It was just Ke Lian’s antics that left Xixi speechless, not angry. She knew Ke Lian saw her as very important now, so she didn’t bother explaining much. They cuddled for a while, then both got out of bed to wash up.
Ke Xing had gone on a trip with his old buddies, so it was just Ke Lian, Xixi, and 2569 at home. Unexpectedly, when Ke Lian and Xixi lovingly walked downstairs together, they found a familiar figure in the living room.
It was Bai Zhan...
Xixi and Ke Lian exchanged a glance and pursed their lips as they walked toward the sofa.
Sitting on the sofa was a very dejected man. He was hunched over with his face resting on his knees. He didn’t look up immediately upon hearing their approach, but instead asked in a hoarse voice, "Are you guys up?"
Xixi sat down silently, accepting the warm water handed to her by 2569. Ke Lian, however, patted the man’s shoulder and asked, "What’s wrong? Is your family pressuring you again?"
Despite his words, Ke Lian and Xixi both had a good guess at what had Bai Zhan feeling this way.
Yesterday, when Mo Ying left, she inadvertently mentioned that Bai Zhan was looking for Mo Feng and was staying with the Mo Family. Mo Ying had planned to bring Ye Wenting back to boast a bit, essentially letting Bai Zhan know that she had moved on from him.
Xixi watched quietly as Bai Zhan slowly raised his head, his tired face dotted with a bit of stubble, looking as if he hadn’t slept all night. He said, with a wry smile, "Ah Lan, I think... I’m a bit pathetic."
The room fell silent instantly. Neither Ke Lian nor Xixi said anything; even 2569 stopped its actions, silently standing by Xixi.
They were all waiting, waiting for Bai Zhan to explain how he was "pathetic."
Sure enough, Bai Zhan didn’t mind their reactions. He smirked bitterly to himself and said, "Yesterday morning, I still thought Mo Ying going on a blind date was just a misunderstanding, but why did she come back in the evening with a boyfriend? Is she really that... free and easy?"
So free and easy that, after having secretly loved him for decades, she could easily let go and immediately get together with another man...
"Bai Zhan..." Ke Lian’s expression turned cold, clearly displeased with his friend’s attitude. "Isn’t this the result you’ve always wanted?"
To have Mo Ying no longer like him, for her to see him only as a friend like before. Wasn’t this the result he had always wanted? Now Mo Ying no longer liked him and had found a better choice, so why was Bai Zhan regretting it?
Bai Zhan was speechless for a moment. He looked at Ke Lian’s gradually icy expression, choked up a bit, and then looked toward Xixi, sitting quietly on the side, pleading somewhat, "Sister-in-law, you’re close to Mo Ying. Can you help me, persuade her to break up?"
Upon hearing this, not only did Ke Lian stop talking and sit down next to Xixi, but Xixi also let out a cold snort, showing the same "iceberg face" as Ke Lian.
Sighing inwardly, she kept her face even colder. She put down her cup and, under Bai Zhan’s pleading gaze, spoke calmly, "Do you even like Sister Mo Ying?"
Bai Zhan choked, unable to say anything. It wasn’t that he was admitting it; it was because he didn’t like Mo Ying.
Seeing his expression, Xixi completely hardened her tone, softly but frigidly interrogating, "How many years has Sister Mo Ying liked you?"
"Did she ever force you?"
"Did she ever confess her feelings to you?"
"Did you know how she retreated step by step, getting hurt repeatedly?"
Though Xixi hadn’t experienced it herself, as a woman, she could empathize with all the grievances and pain Mo Ying had suffered over the years. "They say love is a mutual thing, but if you don’t like Sister Mo Ying, what right do you have to ask her to give up someone who loves her?"
Xixi took a deep breath, her tone growing even colder. "This isn’t what you call pathetic; it’s just your unwillingness. You’re unwilling to let go of someone as outstanding as Sister Mo Ying not having you in her eyes anymore. You’re unwilling to lose a devoted admirer who pursued you for so many years. You’re unwilling, unwilling that Ye Wenting could so easily take away the attention that was once all yours."
